Chapter 383 He Doesn't Want to Get the Marriage Certificate

Hearing Teresa's sigh, Katherine and Alex glanced at her, both looking a bit concerned.

'This love-struck kid should probably slow down on the dating,' Alex thought.

Just then, the waiter brought in some cold dishes.

Katherine put some food in Teresa's bowl, who seemed lost in thought. "Penny for your thoughts? Aren't you hungry? Dig in!"

Teresa snapped out of it and smiled. "Thanks, Katherine!"

Katherine quickly added food to Alex's bowl too, to keep him from getting jealous of his niece.

Teresa, always chatty, asked, "By the way, Alex, have you and Katherine gotten your marriage license yet?"

That question made them pause.

Alex looked at Katherine deeply. "Not yet."

Teresa frowned. "Why not? Aren't you worried Katherine might get upset and leave? You should make her your official wife!"

Alex stayed silent, his expression complicated, as he took a sip of water.

Katherine hadn't taken Teresa's words seriously, but Alex's silence caught her attention. Did he not plan to get the license with her?

Teresa thought Alex was just too proud to bring it up, afraid of rejection. So, she said to Katherine, "Katherine, you should get the marriage license with Alex tomorrow. The sooner, the better!"

Katherine glanced at Alex, who was still drinking water and not speaking. She took a bite of food and said, "No rush."

Teresa looked puzzled. "No rush? Why not? Are you two not serious? If it were me, I'd want to get married right away!"

Katherine shrugged. "A marriage license is just a piece of paper. It's just for splitting assets if we ever split up. I don't care about his money, so it doesn't matter if we get it or not. If we want to separate, that paper won't stop us. People confident in staying together for life don't need it."

"Wow, that makes sense!" Teresa was stunned, then admired Katherine. "You're so cool! I need to learn from you, to be confident in relationships!"

Katherine pressed her lips together and kept eating.

Alex's expression became subtle after hearing Katherine's views. He put down his glass of water without saying a word.

The atmosphere turned a bit strange.

Even Teresa sensed something was off. She looked at Alex's silent face, then at Katherine, who was eating quietly, not understanding what was going on.

Just a moment ago, they were so loving. Why did they suddenly stop talking?

Teresa couldn't stand the awkward silence, so she changed the subject. "Even if you don't get the marriage license, you should at least take some wedding photos for memories! Alex, your first wedding with Katherine was so simple, and you didn't even take any photos! Now that Katherine's back, why not take some beautiful wedding photos?"

Before Alex could respond, Katherine said coolly, "Forget it. Alex probably doesn't like taking photos."

Teresa frowned and looked at him. "Alex, you don't even want to take wedding photos?"

Alex's gaze shifted to Katherine. "Once in a while, it's fine."

Katherine looked up, surprised. She thought Alex, who didn't want to get the license, would also think taking photos was a waste of time. She didn't expect him to agree.

Teresa got excited. "Great! I have a friend who runs a photography studio. I'll book a session for you as a belated wedding gift!"

Katherine still wasn't interested. "Teresa, no need, maybe another time."

But Teresa wasn't easily swayed. She bounced out with her phone to make a call.

Katherine sighed helplessly.

"What's wrong? Don't you want to take a photo with me?" Alex's voice had a hint of teasing.

Katherine was stunned for a moment, then said lightly, "No, I just don't want to waste your time on something so boring."

Alex gently patted her head. "It's not boring. We should have a photo to hang at home."

Katherine didn't like unresolved issues, so she asked, "Then why don't you want to get the marriage license with me?"

Alex was silent for a couple of seconds, then said gently, "We'll talk about it later. Didn't you say you don't care about that piece of paper?"

Katherine looked up, staring into Alex's deep, dark eyes. They could be gentle but also cold, like they were bottomless.

She smiled faintly. "Yes, I don't care about that kind of thing."

She indeed didn't care about formalities, but his reluctance to get the license was hard to accept. Even if she didn't care, his ambiguous attitude was something she couldn't ignore.

Her chest felt heavy, and the food didn't taste good anymore.

Alex served her a bowl of soup, scooped some with a spoon, blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to her mouth. "Don't just eat, have some soup."

He acted as if nothing had happened, caring for her as usual.

"Thanks." Katherine took the bowl of soup and drank it herself.

Teresa came running back excitedly. "Alex, Katherine, come on and eat! After we finish, we'll go get the wedding pictures taken!"

Katherine frowned slightly. "Now?"

Teresa nodded. "It's wedding season, and all the studios are booked for the next three months! My friend squeezed us in tonight; otherwise, we'd have to wait a long time!"

Katherine wanted to say forget it, she wasn't in the mood for photos. But Alex spoke first, "Once she's done eating, we'll go."
