Chapter 204 Alex, You Married the Wrong Person
Joshua looked up at Alex, who was much taller than him. Following Alex's polite gesture, Joshua climbed up the metaphorical ladder, straightening up confidentlye. He nodded appreciatively and said, "Alex, you're doing well. Let's look out for each other from now on!"
Lillian also smiled and said, "Alex, you must be tired from working all day, right? Mom will personally cook some of my best dishes for you!"
Anton frowned disdainfully, as if doubting what he heard. How could Mrs. Galatea dare to call herself Mr. Melville's mom?
Alex narrowed his eyes, his expression unreadable. He turned to Anton and instructed, "Take good care of my father-in-law and mother-in-law. I'll go upstairs to check on her."
"Yes, Mr. Melville," Anton replied with a bow.
"Mr. Melville, wait for me. I'll go upstairs with you to find my sister!" Sherry followed Alex, intentionally staying close to his tall and imposing figure.
She wanted to prove to that old butler that as long as Mr. Melville was back, she could go upstairs. She wanted to see if the old man would dare to stop her again!
Of course, she was also worried that Katherine, that little slut, might shamelessly seduce Mr. Melville and take advantage of him while she wasn't looking!
Alex stopped and looked at Sherry coldly, distantly, his eyes filled with chilling indifference. "It's not convenient. You can wait in the living room. I'll bring her down shortly."
Sherry was stunned. How could this be?
She was taken aback by the rejection. Mr. Melville had just welcomed her warmly!
Anton, watching from a distance, thought Sherry deserved it. How could Ms. Galatea think she had any importance to Mr. Melville?
If it weren't for Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville wouldn't even speak to her. Ms. Galatea perfectly embodied the term "wishful thinking"!
But Sherry didn't hold back. She tried to charm Alex by moving closer. "What's inconvenient about it? Mr. Melville, I just want to go upstairs with you to find my sister. What's the big deal?"
She reached out to take his arm.
Alex's gaze was intense. He coldly stepped aside, avoiding her touch. "What are you doing?"
Sherry's enthusiastic hands grasped at empty air, and she was startled by the man's sudden coldness. She stammered, "Uh... Mr. Melville..."
What was going on? Whenever she showed such affection to men, they would gladly accept it. Why was Mr. Melville so repulsed?
"Alex, you are just in time!" Katherine's casual voice came from upstairs.
Alex immediately looked up at the source of the voice, his cold expression softening slightly.
But when he saw Katherine fully dressed and dragging a suitcase, his brows furrowed again.
Katherine walked down the stairs with her suitcase, stopping in front of Alex. She spoke earnestly, "Alex, I need to tell you something. I'm moving out now. From now on, your Mrs. Melville will be Sherry!"
Sherry blushed and affirmed. "Yes, Mr. Melville. Exactly, I just wanted to go upstairs with you so my sister could explain it to you!"
"Explain what?" Alex squinted, not even glancing at Sherry's shy expression, his eyes fixed on Katherine.
He took Katherine's suitcase and handed it to Anton, then asked her, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
As he spoke, pulled her into his embrace, as if afraid she might leave.
Katherine felt it was inappropriate to be so intimate in front of others. She pushed against his chestan attempt to break free, but his grip was firm. She shrugged helplessly and explained, "Alex, here's the thing. When you went to the Galatea family to pick up the bride, you should have gone through the front door to pick up Sherry. But Anton went through the back door and took me instead! Now, the truth is out, and they know you picked up the wrong person that day. My sister Katherine is here to settle the score and wants me to give her back the position of Mrs. Melville. So, I have to move out!"
Sherry frowned, thinking Katherine's explanation was too blunt. She glared at her and chimed in, "Mr. Melville, what my sister said is true. You were supposed to marry me, but my sister, who loves to cause trouble and take advantage of others, created this misunderstanding! I'm here today because I think my sister, who grew up in the countryside, is inexperienced and might embarrass the Melville family. So, we should switch back to our rightful places!"
Alex listened and glanced at Sherry.
At that moment, Alex finally understood the true purpose of Katherine's family's uninvited visit. His expression hardened.
He ignored Sherry and looked down at Katherine in his arms, displeased. "Other people come to our home and make a scene, and you join in?"
Katherine pouted, "I wasn't making a scene! Alex, you married the wrong person! You were supposed to marry her. My sister Sherry was wearing a wedding dress and waiting for you that day!"
Alex frowned and said, "Are you still talking nonsense?"
Despite his anger, his tone remained gentle, as if scolding a child, trying to convey the gravity without alarming her.
Katherine frowned, looking a bit annoyed.
He didn't want to entertain the notion of picking up the wrong person that day. He asked softly, "What did you eat today?"
With unexpected guests causing a commotion, he wasn't sure if Katherine had eaten properly.
Katherine answered honestly, "I had a bacon sandwich for breakfast, a bowl of noodles for lunch, and I haven't had dinner yet!"
After seeing the Galatea family in the morning, she hadn't left her room all day. Anton had arranged for her meals to be sent to her room, and she was quite full.
Hearing what she had eaten, Alex's expression relaxed. "Alright, what do you want for dinner?"
Sherry was furious at Alex's cold attitude toward her but his gentle tone with Katherine. She felt that Katherine had received the affection that should have been hers!
Unable to bear it any longer, Sherry spoke up again, "Mr. Melville, I think Katherine should leave now while it's still early. If she stays for dinner, it will be too late, and it won't be safe for a girl to walk with her luggage at night!"
Alex looked at Sherry, his eyes devoid of warmth. "If she leaves, you won't stay here either."
Sherry was stunned. "Wh-why? Mr. Melville, didn't you have feelings for me? You can't be fooled by Katherine's pretense. She looks innocent but is very manipulative and good at playing the victim!"
Lillian, also anxious, said, "Alex, listen to me. You really made a mistake. You were supposed to marry Sherry, not Katherine!"
Joshua, still holding onto his father-in-law's demeanor, said with an air of authority, "Alex, listen to me. You were supposed to marry my eldest daughter, Sherry. On the day of the wedding, you picked the wrong person and took my younger daughter Katherine by mistake! This is just a misunderstanding, and they should switch places to make things right!"
