Chapter 898 Taking Money Without Doing the Job
Claire and Nora exchanged a glance at Sherry's sudden change in attitude and then looked at Sherry.
Sherry had a fawning smile on her face, "Come in, come in! It's so hot outside!"
Claire nodded, "When will your father be back?"
Sherry replied with a smile, "He'll be back soon! Come in and have a seat first. I'll make you some coffee. Just wait a bit, my dad will be back soon!"
Claire then led Nora and Linda into the Galatea villa.
Guests instinctively headed towards the living room upon entering.
However, Sherry stopped them from going to the living room, smiling brightly, "Ladies, the sofa in our living room is broken and hasn't been fixed yet, so we can't sit there for now. Please follow me to the guest room upstairs; it's cooler up there!"
Since Sherry said so, Claire and Nora couldn't refuse and followed Sherry upstairs.
Linda followed behind Nora and Claire, cautiously observing her surroundings, feeling that something was off.
Sherry led Claire and Nora to the attic upstairs, which was the small room Katherine used to live in.
"Ladies, here it is! Please wait in this room for a while. I'll go get you something to drink!" Sherry said with a polite and friendly smile.
Although Claire found it odd that Sherry brought them to this narrow little room, she just said it was unnecessary to be so polite and didn't say anything else.
Sherry immediately turned and left.
"Mom, Ms. Ayers, this doesn't seem like a guest room, does it? The attic is so small and low. Who would use such a room to entertain guests?" Linda grumbled with some disdain.
Nora patted her little head, "You shouldn't talk about others' homes like that behind their backs. If she wants us to wait here, then we'll wait here."
Linda didn't like the girl who brought them in, nor did she like this place.
Claire's attention, however, was on the furnishings of the room.
Linda was right; this didn't look like a guest room. It looked more like a room where a family member had lived, but not the master of the house—more like a servant's quarters.
The room had many daily necessities, all covered in dust, as if it hadn't been cleaned for a long time.
Perhaps due to a woman's innate intuition, Claire guessed that this shabby, dark, and narrow little room was probably where her daughter had lived when she stayed at the Galatea Villa.
Technically, she shouldn't touch other people's things, but she was too eager to confirm her suspicions.
Thinking of this, Claire walked to the desk by the wall and randomly picked a notebook from the simple bookshelf on the desk to flip through.
It was Katherine's notebook, used during her college years to record case studies for her thesis.
Seeing the elegant handwriting in the notebook, Claire felt a stronger pang of bitterness in her heart. She turned to the first page of the notebook and indeed saw Katherine's name and class.
Why was this the place where Laura stayed at the Galatea Villa? The ceiling was so low that one had to bend over to avoid hitting their head when getting into bed.
The room was damp, and the bedclothes were not dry. How could Joshua let Laura live in such an environment?
When she entrusted Laura to Joshua, it wasn't for nothing!
She had given Joshua an antique gemstone necklace as a thank-you gift, asking him to take care of her daughter for a while.
At that time, Joshua had readily agreed, assuring her that he would take good care of Laura.
That antique necklace, though not priceless, was worth a few million dollars. Even if it were considered a lodging fee, Joshua shouldn't have let Laura stay in the attic!
This was too much!
Claire was very angry and was just waiting for Joshua to come back so she could question him!
At this moment, Linda suddenly tugged at Nora's hand, "Mom, I need to go to the bathroom."
Nora stood up and looked around the small room, seeing no bathroom. She was about to take Linda out to find one but discovered that the door was locked from the outside and couldn't be opened!
What did this mean?
Nora looked at Claire uneasily, "Claire, we're locked in here!"
Claire realized what was happening, put down what she was holding, and went to the door. She tried turning the doorknob forcefully, confirming it was locked, and her expression darkened!
"Mom, Ms. Ayers, what's going on? Why did that person lock us in?"
Claire didn't know either. She exchanged a glance with Nora, "It seems she doesn't want us to meet her father!"
Nora agreed, nodding, "No matter what, let's call for help first!"
Claire took out her phone to call for help, only to find that the signal was blocked.
Sherry had locked Claire and Nora in the attic. She played with the key in her hand, happily going downstairs to wait for the delivery.
Their small villa had four floors, and her father's study and bedroom were on the second floor. Usually, her father wouldn't go up to the fourth floor unless necessary!
Even if those two women shouted and banged on the door in the attic, no one downstairs would hear them, and there was no fear of them calling the police!
Because she had already turned on the signal jammer upstairs, which she had bought earlier to deal with Katherine!
Now she just needed to go downstairs, finish the soup, find an excuse to send Joshua away when he returned, and then deal with those two women upstairs with Lillian.
Sherry sat downstairs for a while and sent a message to Lillian, urging her to come back quickly.
The doorbell rang; the delivery had arrived.
Sherry brought the delivery inside and went to the kitchen to pour the soup into her pot, pretending she was making the soup herself.
Just as she finished, she heard the sound of a key turning in the front door.
Sherry quickly threw the delivery boxes into the trash can, covered them, and walked out of the kitchen.
Joshua was coming in with his fishing gear. Seeing Sherry, who was always putting on makeup at home, he felt annoyed, "Why do you put on so much makeup at home? Are you trying to scare someone?"
Sherry had originally greeted him with a smile, but after being scolded, she said sulkily, "Dad, why do you always pick on me as soon as you get home? I was making soup for you with great effort!"
Joshua still didn't show any kindness, giving her a glance, "Is the soup ready? Hurry up and get me a bowl. I didn't have lunch, and I'm starving!"
Sherry, wanting to show off, put on a smile, "It's ready! Dad, sit down and wait a moment. I'll get you a bowl right away so you can taste my cooking!"
