Chapter 995 I'm Just Hungry
"I'll take you home," Bernard said.
Christina thought it would be like before, that Bernard would leave her and rush to Virginia's side immediately. At most, he would ask her to contact Billy to pick her up.
But today, Bernard didn't leave directly. With Christina injured, he couldn't just abandon her.
"Let's go, I'll take you home first."
Christina didn't want to delay him and insisted she could go home by herself, but Bernard still wanted to take her back.
"Thank you."
At the entrance of the Mitchell mansion, Christina thanked him and got out of the car.
Bernard suddenly called out to her, "Christina, go home and rest well. You don't need to find a job, and you don't have to repay the three million dollars."
Christina was stunned for a moment, "No! I know you are pitying me, but since it was agreed that it was a loan, I will definitely repay you."
Bernard frowned slightly, "If you do well as Mrs. Mitchell for this year, that money will be your bonus."
His words left Christina momentarily stunned and a bit confused.
Watching Bernard drive away, Christina once again covered her chest with her hand. What was going on today? Why was her heart always out of control?
She couldn't have feelings for Bernard; they were from completely different worlds!
Then, Christina thought of Virginia. Bernard already had someone he liked. All Virginia had to do was make a phone call, and Bernard would drop everything to be with her.
'Christina, don't entertain any inappropriate thoughts. Remember who you are!'"
Entering the Mitchell mansion, Christina saw Hellen and Vincent tending to the plants in the living room and greeted them with a smile, "Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Mitchell, what are you doing?"
"Christina, Bernard's cousin Ruben sent over a few potted plants. Hellen and I are discussing where to place them!" Vincent said with a smile.
"You know a lot about plants?" Christina envied the affection between the couple, always full of laughter.
"Well, now that I'm retired and have plenty of free time, I just enjoy spending it with my plants," Hellen replied with a smile, carefully tending to them.
Christina, having nothing to do herself, smiled and joined them, "Mrs. Mitchell, take me as your apprentice. I'll learn how to grow plants from you."
While arranging the plants with Hellen, Christina noticed a notification on her phone: [Female Star and Mysterious Boyfriend Spotted at Hotel, Suspected Romance Exposed].
She usually had no interest in such news, but for some reason, she felt a connection and picked up her phone to check it out.
The news included several photos. The female lead was Virginia, but the man's face was pixelated, making it impossible to see his features.
Although she couldn't see his features, Christina recognized the outfit. Bernard was wearing the same clothes when he dropped her off at home.
Even though she knew Bernard was going to see Virginia, she didn't expect them to go to a hotel. Seeing the news of their romance exposed made Christina feel uncomfortable and unable to ignore it.
Bernard had repeatedly emphasized that she should avoid too much contact with other men to prevent negative publicity for the Mitchell family. Yet, he had his affair with Virginia exposed, leaving her, as his 'wife,' feeling utterly humiliated!
If they had been in a relationship, why didn't they just get married? Why did she have to pretend to be Bernard's wife? It was completely unnecessary and crazy!
The more Christina thought about it, the worse her mood became, and she began handling the plants more aggressively.
Hellen noticed her change and asked with a smile, "Christina, if you keep being so forceful, the plants will break!"
"Huh?" Christina snapped back to reality, realizing she almost ruined Hellen's plants, and felt embarrassed, "Mrs. Mitchell, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
Hellen smiled and took the trowel from her, "The plants aren't that important, but what made you so angry?"
"Nothing!" Christina laughed awkwardly, "I just saw some entertainment news and got distracted."
Hellen clearly didn't believe her but didn't press further, turning back to the plants, "Christina, sometimes what you see isn't always the truth. The most dangerous thing about these news stories is jumping to conclusions. It's better to hear the explanation from those involved before making a judgment."
Christina pondered Hellen's words.
Hellen was right; journalists often twisted the facts!
But Christina had seen Bernard's different attitude towards Virginia.
She knew her identity was just Bernard's contract wife, and she had no right to interfere in his private life.
Who he dated or had rumors with was none of her business. But for some reason, the images from the news kept replaying in her mind, making her very agitated!
Unable to focus, Christina couldn't properly tend to the plants and excused herself, "Mrs. Mitchell, I'm a bit tired. I want to go upstairs and rest. I'll learn from you another time."
Hellen didn't ask further, just reminded her to take care of herself and nodded, letting her go to her room.
Back in her room, Christina lay on the bed, trying to sleep but couldn't.
Every time she closed her eyes, she thought of the photos of Bernard and Virginia at the hotel, feeling suffocated.
She lay in bed all afternoon without sleeping a wink, only coming downstairs for dinner.
As she walked past the door, Bernard happened to come in.
They made eye contact.
Thinking he had just come back from Virginia, Christina didn't want to talk to him, turned around, and walked towards the dining room.
Bernard frowned at her ignoring him, feeling puzzled, changed his shoes, and followed her.
"Grandpa, Grandma." He greeted them as he walked in, and Christina was already seated.
Hellen saw him and smiled, "You didn't call to say you'd be back for dinner. Why the sudden return?"
"Finished my work, so I came back." Bernard sat next to Christina, who kept her head down, eating without looking at him.
Usually, Christina didn't talk much with him, but she never ignored him or showed such an attitude.
"Christina, Bernard is back. Why aren't you talking to him? Did you two have a fight?"
Hellen's words snapped Christina back to reality. She turned to Bernard, forcing a bright smile, "Mrs. Mitchell, we didn't fight! I was just a bit hungry and didn't get a chance to talk to him! Bernard, you must be hungry too!"
Smiling, Christina put some food in Bernard's bowl, "Try this, honey!"
