Chapter 979 The Missing Tampon

After graduating from high school, Ruben and Christina went to different cities for college and lost contact with each other.

Unexpectedly, her unrequited love reappeared in front of her after many years.

"Come to think of it, it's been many years since we last saw each other. I heard you got into a pretty good university back then. So, where are you working now?" Ruben naturally inquired about her current situation.

Christina didn't even dare to look up at him. She didn't know how to tell Ruben that after graduating from college, Renee had asked her to stay home and take care of the family, not allowing her to work.

So, since graduation, Christina had never worked.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it." Sensing her change in mood, Ruben broke the awkward silence, "When I saw you from afar just now, I was a bit surprised, thinking I had mistaken someone else for you! That guy just now was Jeremiah, a notorious playboy from a wealthy family. Do you know him?"

He didn't press further, and Christina breathed a sigh of relief. "I don't know him, and I don't know how I provoked him. He just wouldn't let me go."

"Silly girl, it's because you're very beautiful." Ruben chuckled.

Christina looked up suddenly, staring at him in disbelief.

Did Ruben just compliment her on her beauty?

Christina felt her cheeks gradually heating up, and she couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, Ruben. Everyone here is dressed so beautifully, I don't stand out at all."

"No, Christina, you've always been beautiful. It's just that you often keep your head down, not letting others see your beautiful face." Ruben bent down slightly, closing the distance between them, "Don't you remember? I told you back in high school to be more confident."

Christina looked into his brown eyes, and her mind drifted back to high school.

It was during a class performance, and she was assigned the role of a maid. The role wasn't important, had no lines, but required some simple dance moves on stage.

The dance moves were simple and easy for Christina to master. But she had never been on stage before and had always been suppressed at home, so she lacked confidence and was hunched over before going on stage.

At that time, Ruben had told her, "Be confident, you're beautiful."

She never expected to see Ruben again after all these years.

"Ruben, what are you doing here?"

The wealthy young man who had just hit on her, Jeremiah, seemed to respect Ruben a lot.

It seemed that Ruben's family background was also quite extraordinary.

"I'm here for the birthday party. What about you? Do you know the host?" Ruben asked with a smile.

Christina looked at him, not knowing how to answer. She couldn't possibly tell him that she was here with her husband.

Especially since Bernard wasn't really her husband!

"There are too many people here. Let's go sit and chat over there." Seeing that Christina hadn't answered, Ruben noticed her unease and suggested they sit on the nearby sofa.

Christina didn't refuse and followed him to the sofa.

"Girls shouldn't drink too much. Wait here, I'll get you a drink." Ruben said as he got up and walked towards the juice bar.

Watching Ruben's back, an inexplicable feeling stirred in Christina's heart.

After all these years, Ruben was still warm and kind.

Christina would never forget that one winter afternoon in high school, after gym class, she had to run back to the classroom to get a tampon because her period had started.

But she couldn't find the tampon anywhere in her bag.

She was sure she had put it in there.

Since she was young, Christina had always packed her own things and had the habit of preparing everything she needed for the next day the night before.

So she remembered clearly that she had put the tampon in her bag. But why was it missing after just one gym class?

Christina had no choice but to ask her classmates for one.

"Do you have a tampon?"

"Can you lend me a tampon? I'll pay you back."

No matter how Christina asked, all her classmates gave the same answer. "No."

Unable to borrow a tampon, Christina sat back down at her desk. All her pocket money had been taken by Cheryl, and she had no money to buy a new pack. Renee's allowance was already tight, and Cheryl would always find ways to take her pocket money.

What should she do? If this continued, she would definitely stain her clothes.

"What's wrong? Your period started?" Cheryl sat down in front of her, looking at her mockingly, "Christina, how could you be so careless, not bringing a tampon for your period?"

Cheryl, though a year older, had repeated a grade due to poor performance and was in the same class as her.

Compared to Christina's introversion and silence, the generous and lively Cheryl was more popular among classmates.

And those who were friends with Cheryl would ostracize Christina, which seemed to be an unspoken rule in the class.

Christina looked at her, tears welling up in her eyes, "Cheryl, can you help me buy a pack of tampons?"

Cheryl immediately interrupted her, "Christina, it's not that I don't want to help you, but I don't have money to buy you tampons!"

Christina was helpless, "But you just took my allowance from mom yesterday."

Cheryl frowned, annoyed, "When did I take your allowance? You must have lost your money and are blaming me!"

"Yeah, Christina, don't falsely accuse Cheryl."

"Christina, why do you always shirk responsibility?"

Cheryl's sharp voice was heard by others, and classmates began to side with Cheryl, criticizing Christina!

It was as if she was the one who had done something wrong.

Christina couldn't explain and ran out of the classroom, squatting down in the stands on the playground.

Even if she had to embarrass herself, it was better than being seen by so many classmates!

"Here."

A clear voice sounded.

Christina looked up and saw a boy standing in the sunlight, holding a pack of tampons, "I know girls have their preferred brands, but I didn't know which one you use, so I just bought one."

Christina felt a bit embarrassed, slowly stood up, and looked at him in disbelief.

The boy smiled and nodded, "I saw you asking others for one earlier, so I went to the store and bought a pack for you. You probably need it."

Christina reached out, trembling, and took the pack of tampons, "Thank you."
