Chapter 685: Are You Ready?
He raised his hand and gently adjusted the sweater on her shoulder, his eyes never leaving her. "Leander bought a ton of stuff, and it should be enough for everyone. Alright, head back and eat."
Katherine paused, caught off guard by Alex's gentle gaze. "Thanks."
Alex frowned. Katherine was getting more and more formal with him.
But hey, being polite was better than being ignored.
Katherine was about to head back with the barbecue when she remembered something. "Oh, Mr. Melville, you should take the money for that painting from before."
Alex's frown deepened. "Do we really have to be so formal about this?"
Katherine replied, "As of now, I think it's best for us to set clear boundaries.."
Alex's face darkened, his tone losing its gentleness. "Just go back and eat, and get some rest."
Katherine shot back, "Mr. Melville, you should head back early too, and be careful on the road."
Alex turned around, his face stern, and got into the car. Leander gave Katherine a small bow before getting in as well.
Katherine had planned to see him off before heading back inside, but the car just sat there, not moving.
After a while, the car still hadn't moved, so she frowned and went back with the barbecue. The servant who had come out with her stepped forward to take it from her.
Seeing Katherine safely enter the Mitchell mansion, Alex finally felt relieved. He signaled the driver to start the car.
Once Alex's car drove away, Jonathan, who had been ignored the whole time, finally snapped out of it.
Instead of driving off, he walked into the Mitchell mansion to catch up with Katherine. "Katherine."
Hearing someone call her, Katherine didn't stop but turned her head, her expression indifferent. "Mr. Mostow. Just got here?"
Jonathan felt a pang of sadness. He had been standing less than 600 feet away from her, yet she hadn't even noticed.
Feeling helpless, he smiled and walked beside her. "How come you're not surprised to see me?"
Katherine replied, "There's nothing to be surprised about. You rich kids all have overlapping networks, and you definitely share news about major events, so it's not surprising that you found your way here."
Jonathan liked her calm and wise side. "So you've been staying at the Mitchell mansion these past two days and didn't tell me."
Katherine said, "Why should I tell you? So you can come running here for no reason? Besides, even if I didn't tell you, you already found out."
Jonathan frowned, feeling a bit hurt. "Katherine, even though you don't want me to find you, I'm really worried about you. And I heard you were kidnapped and just rescued. How are you? Are you hurt?"
Katherine spread her hands and said, "I'm fine. You see, I'm perfectly okay."
Jonathan scanned her from top to bottom. "As long as you're okay. When I heard about it, I was so scared that I immediately rushed over."
Katherine said, "Sorry to make you worry. Don't worry, I'm really fine. Mr. Mostow, if you don't have anything else, you should go home and rest early."
Jonathan frowned. "Are you really that unwelcoming to me?"
Katherine replied nonchalantly, "It's not that I'm unwelcoming, it's just that it's almost dawn. You have to go to work later, right?"
Jonathan grinned, "Work isn't as important as you."
Katherine just took his words as a joke and didn't respond.
Jonathan walked beside her, and after a moment, he tentatively asked, "Katherine, I saw Alex bringing you food just now, and you accepted it. So, are you planning to reconcile with Alex?"
Katherine's face stiffened slightly, but she dodged the question. "Mr. Mostow, want some barbecue?"
Even though she didn't answer directly, Jonathan had already guessed the answer.
Back in the Mitchell mansion's living room, the smell of barbecue got everyone excited since they were all hungry.
Katherine handed the barbecue to Teresa. "You guys eat first, I'm going to the bathroom."
Teresa glanced at the barbecue and said, "Katherine, this was brought by Alex, right?"
Katherine didn't answer and had already turned to head to the bathroom.
"Who else could it be from if not Alex?" Sunny eagerly stood up to grab the barbecue and handed a skewer to Ambrosia first.
Ambrosia took it without hesitation. Then, Frank grabbed two skewers and handed one to Teresa.
Teresa paused for a moment before taking it. "Thanks."
Frank smiled, "No need to thank me. I didn't buy it. We should thank Alex for letting us have a bite in the middle of the night."
Teresa smirked, "Then go thank Alex."
Frank smiled and didn't argue with her.
Just then, Teresa's phone rang. Seeing it was her boyfriend Anthony calling, she quickly put down the skewer she was about to eat and walked a bit further to answer the call.
She had forgotten to call Anthony to let him know she was safe, and he must be worried and possibly angry.
Teresa walked to a quieter part of the Mitchell mansion before answering the call. "Hello, Anthony."
Anthony's voice sounded a bit down. "Teresa, where are you? Haven't you come home yet?"
Teresa felt very apologetic. "Anthony, I'm at the Mitchell mansion. Katherine is staying here, so I came along. I forgot to call you, I'm sorry."
Anthony gave a bitter smile. "It's okay, as long as you're safe. I was just a bit worried about you."
Teresa felt even more guilty. "I'm really sorry, Anthony, I didn't do it on purpose. I was so happy to see Alex and Katherine safe that I forgot to call you. Please don't be mad."
Anthony said, "Teresa, I'm not mad, really."
Teresa said, "I'm glad you're not mad. I'll treat you to something delicious tomorrow after you get off work. By the way, did you finish your work?"
Anthony replied, "Yes, it's all done."
"Oh, that's good. I don't want my issues to delay your work, that would make me feel even worse."
"Teresa, when are you planning to come home? Should I call a cab and come pick you up?"
Knowing he had to work tomorrow, Teresa didn't want to trouble him and said, "No need, Anthony, someone will drive me home later. You should rest early; you have to get up for work in a few hours."
Anthony was silent for half a minute before awkwardly asking, "Who's driving you home later? Is it Mr. Perez?"
