Chapter 1033 Invite Her Over for a Meal
"It's exactly what it sounds like," Christina sat down on the bench beside him, looking at him with a face full of resentment. "Do I need to remind you of what you did?"
Bernard sat up from the bed, his face stern. "What am I pretending about?"
The man in front of her was so different from the one he showed to others.
He wouldn't admit to what he had done. He really wasn't a good person; she had thought too highly of him before!
"What else do you need me to say?" Christina was not holding back today and didn't spare Bernard any face. "You are just pretending. Bernard, can you be a bit more genuine?"
Bernard didn't know what he had done to make her say such things. "Genuine? Like what?"
"You and Virginia are clearly not just ordinary friends, yet you pretend to be just friends in front of me. Isn't that pretending?"
This again!
Bernard felt annoyed. He had explained this many times, but Christina still didn't believe him because of this issue.
"Christina, I'll tell you one last time, Virginia and I are indeed just ordinary friends." After saying that, Bernard stood up. "This is unreasonable!"
Bernard left the room and went straight to the study.
The room was left with Christina, full of grievances, unable to sleep the whole night.
After two nights of poor sleep, Christina finally fell asleep in the early morning.
The next morning, Hellen saw Bernard coming out of the study and knew that there must be some problem between the two of them.
"Billy, come to the Mitchell Mansion."
Hellen didn't directly ask Bernard what had happened. Given Bernard's personality, he wouldn't tell her anyway.
She had to find another way to inquire about the situation between the two from Billy.
Receiving Hellen's call, Billy, despite his concerns, obediently came to the Mitchell Mansion.
Hellen called him to the garden, holding scissors to cut off the unnecessary branches of the newly planted saplings. "Did Bernard and Christina have a fight?"
This was a difficult topic for him to broach.
"Uh, Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Christina Mitchell just had some misunderstandings before. Once they clear it up, everything will be fine. Mrs. Hellen Mitchell, please don't worry too much." Billy smiled apologetically, finding this as the only excuse.
Hellen was clearly dissatisfied with his answer and put down the scissors in her hand. "You have been by Bernard's side, not just helping him with work. You better tell me immediately what happened between Bernard and Christina."
Hellen turned her head, looking at Billy with sharp eyes. "Are you ready to tell the truth now?"
Billy indeed wanted to help Bernard hide the truth, but seeing Hellen's stance, he couldn't hide it anymore.
"Actually, it's not a big deal. It's just that Mrs. Christina Mitchell misunderstood the relationship between Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Pearl, which caused a bit of conflict."
After hearing Billy's words, Hellen understood what was going on.
Virginia, that tactless woman, had always been close to Bernard. Hellen had also thought for a while that Bernard had feelings for Virginia.
However, Virginia had always left a bad impression on her, and she didn't agree with them being together.
Now it seemed that the conflict between Christina and Bernard was because Virginia was causing trouble, and Christina was jealous.
"Alright." Hellen thought for a moment and came up with a solution. "Go find Virginia and tell her I want to invite her to a meal. See when she has time to come and see me."
Hellen intended to handle Virginia personally.
"Yes, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell, I'll go right away."
Leaving the Mitchell Mansion, Billy drove directly to Virginia's film set and found her agent.
Virginia had just finished a scene and was particularly happy to hear that Billy had come. "It must be Bernard worrying about my health and sending Billy to check on me."
"Hurry, touch up my makeup."
Virginia quickly touched up her makeup and changed her clothes, then went to find Billy, smiling brightly. "Where's Bernard? Didn't he come?"
"Mr. Mitchell didn't come, Ms. Pearl. Today, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell specifically asked me to find you."
Hearing that it was Hellen looking for her, the smile on Virginia's face instantly disappeared, replaced by surprise and wariness. "Hellen? Why would she send you to find me?"
"Mrs. Hellen Mitchell wants to invite you to a meal. She wants to know when you would be available, so she sent me to ask." Billy conveyed Hellen's message accurately.
Hearing that Hellen wanted to have a meal with her, Virginia was even more surprised.
From a long time ago, Virginia knew that Hellen didn't like her.
All these years, she had always thought that if it weren't for Hellen, the person who became Mrs. Mitchell wouldn't be that Christina who appeared out of nowhere, but her.
"Ms. Pearl, why aren't you saying anything? Are you unwilling to have a meal with Mrs. Hellen Mitchell?"
Billy saw Virginia's long silence and spoke again. "Mrs. Hellen Mitchell rarely invites outsiders to dine with her. If she does, and you don't go, she will be very upset."
His words made it clear to Virginia that since Hellen had specifically asked to dine with her, she had no choice but to go, whether she wanted to or not.
Actually, Virginia wouldn't really refuse. After all, even if she didn't like Hellen, Hellen was still Bernard's grandmother.
As Bernard's elder, Virginia naturally couldn't offend her.
"Billy, you're joking. It would be my honor to dine with Mrs. Hellen Mitchell. Of course, I'm happy. I'm just a bit curious why she suddenly wants to invite me to a meal?" Virginia smiled, probing.
Billy knew the reason Hellen wanted to dine with her, but he certainly wouldn't say it. "Ms. Pearl, I don't know about that. Why don't you ask her yourself during the meal?"
Virginia knew that Billy, who had been working closely with Bernard, was very tight-lipped.
If he didn't want to say something, no one could get it out of him.
"Alright, no matter what, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell is an elder, and it's not appropriate for her to invite me to a meal. How about this: I'm free tomorrow night. I'll extend an invitation to Mrs. Hellen Mitchell for dinner."
Billy nodded. "Okay, I'll make a note of that. However, I can't make decisions on behalf of Mrs. Hellen Mitchell. I'll pass along your message, and once she decides, I'll give you a call."
Leaving the film set, Billy returned to the Mitchell Mansion and relayed Virginia's message to Hellen.
