Chapter 194 Dumb And Dumber
Not only Sunny but also the group of classmates following behind him were shocked and nervous because of Bernard's sudden appearance.
The three girls were seeing Sunny's brother for the first time. They didn't expect Bernard to be more handsome than Sunny, with an added charm of a mature man. They were all stunned.
Theodore and his friends noticeably became more well-behaved. They were bold enough to confront Sunny but wouldn't dare to act out in front of Bernard, the older brother of the Mitchell family.
The Mitchell family was one of the top leaders both in Janetrick and across the country, something their peers couldn't compare to.
No one answered his question. Bernard's handsome eyes were tinged with a repressed blood-red hue. He furrowed his brows and asked again, "Who among you is Laura?"
After a long silence, no one stepped forward.
At this moment, Sunny was already sweating profusely, feeling guilty, and extremely terrified.
He knew better than anyone that the missing Laura was sacred and inviolable in his brother's heart. He couldn't imagine the consequences when his brother found out someone was impersonating Laura!
Theodore glanced at Sunny and noticed his guilty demeanor, guessing that he must have been lying earlier. Knowing that Sunny feared his brother Bernard the most, Theodore deliberately shouted at Katherine beside him, "Hey! Laura, your brother is calling you. Say something!"
Ella, who liked Sunny and had a somewhat ingratiating attitude towards his family, also found the situation very strange.
She stepped forward and said politely, "Bernard, isn't Laura your sister? How could you not recognize her? Isn't the one next to Sunny Laura?"
"Laura?" Bernard's gaze lifted and then fell on Katherine, his eyes suddenly narrowing!
He had just excluded that girl, not paying attention to her.
His gentle brows revealed a sharp coldness, and the spark of hope in his eyes was instantly extinguished, ruthlessly snuffed out. Bernard slightly shifted his body and took a step towards Katherine. "You are Laura?"
Katherine's expression was calm as she began to explain, "I'm not..."
But Bernard had no patience to listen to her explanation and interrupted her, sarcastically saying, "Ms. Galatea, I'm not interested in or concerned with how you managed to attach yourself to the Melville family. But if you want to associate with the Mitchell family and flaunt our name, I won't tolerate it. Today, you dared to impersonate my sister Laura, and I caught you. You will pay for this!"
The words "pay for this" were emphasized heavily!
Sunny understood that his brother Bernard never joked and never just said things for the sake of saying them. Katherine was in trouble now!
But Katherine, who was completely innocent, was mistaken for Laura because of him, . He couldn't just stand by.
Sunny gritted his teeth, mustered the courage, and stood in front of Katherine. "Bernard, it's not what you think. She didn't impersonate our sister; I lied to my classmates, saying her name was Laura."
Slap! A sudden slap!
The slap caught everyone off guard, and they all gasped in shock.
Sunny, shocked and scared, covered his face, turning his head that had been slapped to the side. His ears were still ringing, and his eyes were filled with stubborn tears that refused to fall. "Bernard, it wasn't her, it was me."
"It's you. That's worse! Letting a vain, power-hungry woman impersonate your missing sister! Is that what you did?" The always steady and elegant Bernard was enraged. His hand that slapped Sunny now pointed at Katherine. "Laura, do you think she deserves it?"
Katherine was at a loss for words. What did she do to deserve this? She got scolded out of nowhere!
"You'd better not point your hand at her."
A low, rich voice suddenly sounded not far away, not loud but seemingly deafening.
Everyone's spine tingled inexplicably, and they turned to look.
It was a tall, handsome man with perfectly styled mature hair that emphasized his three-dimensional and noble features without flaw. He looked like a walking sculpture, expressionless yet naturally imposing.
Alex walked over steadily, exuding an aura that made people awe-struck.
Bernard narrowed his eyes, looking unfriendly at the newcomer.
Sunny was stunned. He was surprised to see Alex here.
The rest of the people, feeling an increasingly tense atmosphere, didn't dare to make any sound, anxiously watching.
Katherine raised her eyebrows, also surprised by Alex's appearance.
However, in this place, without her own people, she naturally felt familiar with Alex's appearance.
Instinctively, she moved closer, looking up at the much taller man. "Alex, why are you here?"
Alex lowered his gaze, his cold eyes softening slightly. "It's raining. I came to bring you an umbrella."
Following behind him, Leander Nelson indeed held a black umbrella.
Was it raining outside? Katherine instinctively wanted to look out the window, but there were no windows around, so she couldn't confirm.
Alex's rough hand gently cupped her face, tilting it up at a forty-five-degree angle, his long fingers lightly brushing her cheek. "Out playing all afternoon, had fun?"
Fun? She just got scolded! Katherine lazily yawned. "I'm tired. I want to go home."
Alex feigned displeasure, frowning. "You know you're tired? Not playing with me, running off to fool around with others? Getting bullied outside and not even calling home!"
His tone and choice of words were overly indulgent as if he really treated her like an elementary student. She was speechless.
Katherine pouted, "I didn't call, but you still came, didn't you?"
Alex rubbed her head, his mature, deep voice deliberately teasing. "If I didn't come, you wouldn't even think to find me!"
Katherine thought, 'You're being overly affectionate!'
Alex stopped teasing her, gently bringing Katherine to his side, protecting her under his arm. Then he looked up, glaring at Bernard, who had just spoken rudely to Katherine, and was standing up for her.
Alex sneered, "Bernard, your Mitchell family shouldn't take ingratitude to such an extreme. Criticizing a girl who once helped your people, do you have no shame?"
Bernard looked at Alex, his previously angry expression now calm, with a composed and elegant smile that didn't reach his eyes. "We're the same, just like dumb and dumber. When it comes to ingratitude, Alex, you're not bad yourself. While you're here holding another woman, where does that leave your benefactor, Scarlett? Alex, Scarlett lost so much saving you back then, and you still forgot everything?"
