Chapter 279 Scarlett Has an Accomplice

The owner of Tranquil Lily Cafe, seeing them return to check the surveillance footage, nervously bowed and said, "Gentlemen, it's not that I don't want to show you the footage, but our surveillance system is truly broken. It won't even turn on, and you can't see anything!"

Bernard calmly looked up at the surveillance cameras by the counter and in the hall. Just as Alex had said, the cameras weren't broken; the power lights were still on and blinking.

So, he told the owner, "We know, so we brought a pro to fix it. Just cooperate with us."

The owner, unsure of who these guests were but recognizing their importance from their attire and demeanor, didn't dare refuse. Plus, the incident had happened at her cafe.

She replied, "Alright, I'll cooperate! Absolutely cooperate!"

Bernard called the company's top computer engineer, nodded, and signaled him to check the surveillance system.

The engineer, following orders, nodded and, with the owner's permission, went behind the counter to investigate why the system wouldn't turn on and kept crashing.

The owner stood by, muttering about when the system might have broken and how hard it was to fix.

The Mitchell Group's computer engineer quickly found the problem: a code error causing the system to crash upon startup. He began to fix it.

In less than ten minutes, the engineer announced, "Mr. Mitchell, it's fixed!"

The owner was astonished. "It's really fixed! How did you do it so quickly? You're a pro!"

Bernard then instructed, "Now pull up the footage from the private room where the four of them had lunch."

"Yes, Mr. Mitchell!" The engineer turned to the owner and asked, "Please tell me the name of the private room and the exact dining time."

The owner replied, "Harmony Garden Retreat! The private room where the four distinguished guests dined at noon is called Harmony Garden Retreat, and the time was around 12:30 PM!"

The engineer nodded and began to retrieve the footage but soon encountered another problem. He frowned and said, "Mr. Mitchell, I can't pull it up. All other surveillance is back to normal, but the camera in the private room where Ms. Mitchell and her friends dined shows no memory card!"

Bernard's brow furrowed, and he questioned the owner, "What's going on?"

The owner, looking innocent, shook her head in confusion. "I don't know! There shouldn't be a missing memory card. Since the system broke, no one has touched those cameras. They're mounted high up, and our staff can't even reach them to clean!"

Bernard, seeing that the owner didn't seem to be lying, instructed the engineer, "Go check the private room!"

"Yes!" he replied.

In less than a minute, the engineer returned and regretfully reported, "Mr. Mitchell, the camera in the private room has no memory card. It seems it was removed!"

Bernard's brow furrowed deeper, clearly unhappy with this outcome.

Scarlett, looking puzzled, said, "How could this be? Why is there no memory card in the camera of the private room where we dined? This is too strange, brother!"

Bernard also found it very odd. The surveillance was fixed, but the camera in that specific private room had no memory card. No one would believe it was a coincidence!

He raised his sharp eyes, thoughtfully glancing at Katherine, who had come with them to investigate the truth, a hint of suspicion in his gaze.

Seeing what she had hoped for in her brother's eyes, Scarlett turned to Katherine and, as if realizing something, said, "Katherine, I remember you left the private room after Alex and I took the baby out. Did you take the memory card to destroy the evidence?"

Hearing this, Bernard's suspicion became more direct. "Katherine, how do you explain this?"

Katherine replied, "I didn't take any memory cards."

But clearly, her denial without evidence seemed very weak.

Scarlett shook her head with a look of disbelief after realizing the truth. "I got it. Katherine, you took the memory card from the camera! That's why you acted so confident, pretending to be innocent and pushing to check the surveillance footage. You were just trying to make everyone think you were innocent! Right?"

Since entering the restaurant, Katherine had been standing aside, waiting for the result without asserting anything. Now, faced with the missing memory card and becoming the prime suspect, she wasn't surprised.

Because from the moment Scarlett suddenly changed her attitude and agreed to check the surveillance, Katherine knew things weren't that simple!

The missing memory card indicated that it indeed recorded the truth, exposing Scarlett's lies and framing. That's why it was urgently removed!

Clearly, the memory card's disappearance was directly related to Scarlett. Undoubtedly, Scarlett was the one most afraid of everyone seeing the footage.

But Scarlett had been with them the whole time and had no chance to take the memory card, leaving only two possibilities.

One possibility was that Scarlett had someone take the memory card on the way here!

The other possibility was that someone in the restaurant was in cahoots with Scarlett and helped her cover it up!

Seeing Katherine remain silent, Scarlett, playing the victim, questioned, "Katherine, why aren't you saying anything? Do you finally realize your mistake? If you had admitted your mistake earlier, I could have forgiven you! But you had to make things this complicated! Now, even if I want to forgive you, Bernard won't let you off!"

Katherine continued to ignore Scarlett, fully aware that Scarlett was behind this!

She turned directly to the owner and asked, "Excuse me, after we left, did any other guests use that private room?"

The owner shook her head. "No, after you left, it was past dining time, and no other guests came."

No other guests, so it must be someone from the restaurant!

Katherine then asked, "Ma'am, where is the waiter who served us water in the private room at noon?"
