Chapter 298 Stay Away from Her!
"Yeah, I worked them myself." Sunny nodded, nervously asking, "Bernard, did I get it right this time?"
To his surprise, Bernard slammed the test paper on the table. "I want you to improve on your own, not cheat!"
Sunny was startled and instinctively took a step back, looking innocent. "Bernard, I didn't cheat!"
"Just a moment ago, you couldn't solve a single problem, and now you can solve so many after just a short break?" Bernard glared at him in frustration. "Who are you trying to fool?"
How could he believe that Sunny wrote this himself?
At first, Sunny not only got every problem wrong but also made such ridiculous mistakes that it was clear he didn't even understand the basics. It wasn't even worth correcting him!
But now, this corrected test paper was almost 80% right. With his brain, it was impossible!
Seeing Bernard's skeptical attitude, Sunny realized he must have gotten a lot right, which made Bernard think he cheated.
So he quickly explained, "Bernard, I really wrote this myself. Katherine taught me a very versatile formula, and I understood it. I used the formula to figure it out! If you don't believe me, I can write another practice test for you to see?"
Katherine taught him?
Bernard paused, his brows furrowing as he asked cautiously, "Why would she teach you?"
Sunny answered honestly, "She didn't want to at first. I begged her, and she took the time to explain one problem to me. I heard she's a top student at Janetrick University, so I thought she might have some study shortcuts. I asked her to teach me how to improve my grades quickly."
Bernard was silent for a minute, his brows furrowing deeper. "Stay away from her in the future!"
Sunny was puzzled. "Why? I think she's really nice, and her explanations are simple and easy to understand."
Bernard snorted coldly. "What do you know about people? What's your relationship with her? Why would she teach you for free? You're not a kid anymore; use your brain, and don't trust anyone easily!"
Sunny replied, "Oh. But if she's not good, why do you keep her in the company, Bernard?"
Bernard was momentarily speechless. "That's adult business. Kids shouldn't ask too much! I'll have Billy take you home to continue studying. Prepare well for next week's exam!"
Sunny pouted. "Bernard, what about my credit card?"
Bernard's face darkened. "Don't mention it until you pass your exams."
"Got it." Sunny sighed dejectedly, holding his homework as he turned to find Billy.
After Sunny left, Bernard looked down at the test paper in his hand, his brows still furrowed. Katherine could improve Sunny's grades so much in such a short time, which was impressive.
But why would she teach Sunny? If she really didn't want to marry into the Mitchell family as she claimed, what was she up to? What was she infiltrating?
With her intelligence, she could succeed anywhere. Why would she come to the Mitchell Group for a so-called high salary?
Bernard felt a bit tired and rubbed his temples.
Whenever he felt exhausted, he would think of his missing mother and sister, touching the photo on his desk.
Lately, for some reason, the feeling that his mother and sister were still alive had grown stronger.
He used to search for their bodies with a glimmer of hope, but now, he felt they were nearby, watching him.
The next afternoon, after finalizing the sales plan details, Katherine leaned back in her chair and casually grabbed her phone to check the time.
There were ten minutes left until the end of the workday, so she dialed Sunny's number.
Sunny's cocky voice came quickly from the other end. "Hello? Who is it?"
"Sunny, it's me. Katherine." she said.
Realizing it was Katherine, Sunny's tone lifted a bit. "Katherine, are you off work?"
Katherine answered, "Almost, less than ten minutes left."
"Great! I'll come to pick you up now. Meet me in the alley near the company, and make sure to avoid Bernard's sight!" Sunny cautioned carefully.
Katherine found it odd. "I'm not doing anything shady. Why should I avoid Bernard?"
Sunny stammered, "Because he doesn't like me getting too close to you, so he can't know I'm taking you to my grandpa's party! Just avoid him, or I'll get scolded by him again!"
Katherine sneered sarcastically. "Oh, I see!"
Sunny seemed apologetic and added, "Don't take it personally. Bernard has some misunderstandings about you right now. Once he really gets to know you better, he'll change his mind."
Katherine smiled and said, "Alright, call me when you're near the company."
"Okay!" he answered.
Sunny arrived promptly, in just fifteen minutes.
Following the location Sunny sent, Katherine strolled to the alley near the Mitchell Group and got in the car.
Sunny's attendant, Furry, was driving while Sunny sat in the back with his legs crossed. He gave Katherine a critical look as she got in.
"Hey! Katherine, are you really going to my grandpa's party dressed like that?" he asked.
Katherine was wearing a smart business outfit, just without the jacket, leaving a simple white shirt, which was clean and neat but a bit too casual.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing? I'm just going with you to join the fun. There's no need to dress up too much, right?" she said.
Sunny frowned. "Katherine, you're quite unconventional!"
"Hmm? How am I unconventional?" asked Katherine.
"You clearly want to mess around with Bernard, but you don't even dress up! Do you know how many women are after Bernard? How can you stand out and make Bernard like you?" Sunny explained.
Katherine smirked. "Perhaps I'm simply not interested in Bernard."
Sunny thought for a moment and believed her. "That's too bad! I was hoping you could be my sister-in-law!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Sunny was blunt. "Because if you marry Bernard, you won't threaten Scarlett's happiness anymore!"
Katherine was at a loss for words. So it was still for his sister!
Sunny added, "But there's another reason. You're different from those common, tacky women! I think you're interesting, and we have a lot in common! I don't want Bernard to marry a troublesome woman. That would drive me crazy!"
Katherine was speechless, almost amused. Who had anything in common with him? Having something in common with him would mean lowering her IQ!
The car soon arrived at the Ayers family entrance.
Sunny looked out the window and brightened up. "That's Alex's car. It's rare for him to come so early!"
