Chapter 313 Accidentally Recognizing Grandparents

Watching Katherine get called to the study by Marcus, Scarlett sat in her wheelchair, digging her nails into her palms in sheer rage.

Just then, Sunny squeezed through the crowd, looking totally confused. "Scarlett, why are you in a wheelchair? Sophie, what happened?"

He'd been hiding in the side hall, playing mobile games with his cousins to avoid Bernard's endless questions about school. When he came back, he saw everyone gathered and had no clue what was going on.

Sophie, still fuming, snapped, "It's all because of that bitch Katherine. She pushed Scarlett down the stairs on purpose, and now Scarlett's got a sprained ankle! I don't even know who brought her here today!"

Sunny frowned, not buying it. "No way! Katherine wouldn't do that! Sophie, stop making stuff up!"

Hearing this, Scarlett snapped out of her thoughts and glared at Sunny, feeling even more upset, her eyes darker than ever.

Sunny had never seen the usually gentle and sweet Scarlett look so grim and gloomy. He was suddenly at a loss. "Scarlett, what's wrong?"

Sophie, irritated, shot back, "Sunny, what do you mean I'm making things up? I saw it with my own eyes! Do you think I'd lie about Katherine?"

Sunny was unconvinced. "Sophie, it's not like you haven't falsely accused her before! I really don't get why you're always targeting Katherine. She hasn't done anything to provoke you!"

Sophie, infuriated, retorted, "Sunny, I think Katherine's sweet talk has gotten to you!"

Sunny, annoyed, replied, "No, I haven't! I'm not stupid! I just don't believe Katherine is that malicious or bored. Why would she push Scarlett down the stairs right in front of you? If she truly wanted to harm Scarlett, she would have done it discreetly! Why leave a witness? I think there have been misunderstandings between you before, and this is probably another one!"

Sophie, at a loss for words, wished she could knock some sense into him. "Sunny, you..."

Scarlett, barely holding back her anger to avoid losing her composure in public, said, "Enough, Sophie. Don't argue with Sunny. There are so many guests watching, it's embarrassing! Just take me back to the guest room!"

Feeling guilty for embarrassing Scarlett with her earlier actions, Sophie quickly agreed. "Alright, Scarlett. I'll take you back to the guest room right away!"

As she was about to push Scarlett away, Marcus returned with Katherine.

Sophie stopped and looked at Katherine with Scarlett, wondering what Marcus had said to her in the study that was so quick.

However, Marcus led Katherine directly onto the stage. Facing the crowd's puzzled reactions, the old man solemnly and joyfully announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me at my birthday celebration today. I have some exciting news to share with you all! This is Ms. Galatea, next to me. She will now be a part of the Ayers family. Aria and I have chosen her as our god-granddaughter!"

The crowd was in an uproar, completely taken by surprise!

After a moment of silence, the audience erupted in applause, offering their congratulations.

Everyone knew the Ayers family had lost a daughter and granddaughter years ago, a source of deep sorrow for the elderly couple.

Now, meeting a young girl they felt a connection with and taking her as a god-granddaughter was a good thing, giving Aria and Marcus some comfort.

In the crowd, Sunny was stunned. "What the hell! Grandpa actually took Katherine as his god-granddaughter? Does that mean she'll be my cousin now?"

Scarlett, usually so gentle, glared at Katherine on the stage, her eyes darkening. She could no longer keep up her innocent act.

'Katherine! Katherine! Katherine!' Scarlett fumed internally. 'That damn Katherine ruined my plans again, taking the spotlight that should have been mine! If it weren't for her, I'd be the one being introduced and praised by Marcus on stage! Katherine, you bitch! This won't end here!'

Trying to keep her cool in public, Scarlett suppressed her anger and said, "I'm tired! Sophie, take me back to the guest room to rest!"

Seeing Katherine suddenly become the Ayers family's god-granddaughter, Sophie was also furious but had no choice but to push Scarlett away from the crowd, planning their next move in the guest room.

After the announcement, Katherine obediently followed Marcus off the stage.

Marcus then introduced her to some close relatives.

Finally, she managed to get away, leaving Marcus to handle the congratulations from friends and family.

Sunny came over, looking curious. "Katherine, spill it! What did you do to make my grandpa suddenly take you as his god-granddaughter?"

Katherine walked to the buffet table, grabbed a glass of juice, took a sip, and replied playfully, "Nothing much, probably because I'm cute!"

Sunny rolled his eyes. "Sure, right!"

Actually, Katherine was quite cute, with good looks, a nice demeanor, and a genuine, quirky personality that was indeed very likable.

But Marcus wasn't an ordinary person. It was unbelievable that such a proud and authoritative man would take Katherine as his god-granddaughter on their first meeting!

Katherine calmly drank her juice, unfazed by the sudden change.

When Marcus called her into the study earlier, Aria had held her hand affectionately, as if afraid she'd leave.

Marcus had directly expressed his desire to take her as a god-granddaughter.

She politely declined, and Marcus asked why. She gave a reasonable explanation, but Marcus pointed to Aria's mental state and explained her condition, hoping she'd reconsider.

Seeing her grandmother tightly holding her hand and constantly calling out the name Claire, Katherine hesitated.

She didn't completely reject the idea of acknowledging her grandparents. Still, she feared that doing so would alert those who had harmed her mother, causing them to destroy any remaining evidence and making it harder to uncover the truth.

However, taking on the role of a god-granddaughter wouldn't necessarily reveal her true identity.

With Marcus's sincere request and Aria's distressing condition, Katherine reconsidered and agreed.

Marcus hoped she could spend one day a week with Aria, who had Alzheimer's. Since it wasn't a difficult task, she agreed.
