Chapter 151 Handsome, Ten Million Dollars, I Want You at My Service

Sophie saw the man speaking, and her eyes lit up. Her tone immediately softened. "Bernard, you're here!"

Seeing Sophie's reaction, Katherine also turned to look.

The man behind them was tall and lean, dressed in a finely tailored cool gray suit. His features were gentle and handsome, with a pair of beautiful eyes that seemed to be sculpted by a master artist, carrying a distant light. The man exuded an aristocratic air of indifference, like a deity floating in mid-air.

As Katherine looked at the man, he also looked at her.

Recognizing Katherine, Bernard narrowed his long eyes and said, "It's you?"

Katherine also recognized him; he was the grandson of the blind old man from yesterday.

Seeing Bernard and Katherine talking, Sophie panicked and immediately became wary. She asked with a forced smile, "Bernard, do you know Katherine?"

Bernard gave Sophie a faint glance, his gentle yet distant gaze returning to Katherine. "So your name is Katherine?"

Katherine nodded and replied, "Yes."

Bernard didn't say anything, elegantly raised his hand to signal and asked Billy, who was beside him, for his wallet.

Bernard took the wallet, opened it, signed his name on a check, tore it off, and handed it to her, politely saying, "I heard that Ms. Galatea thought I gave too little yesterday. How about this check today, Ms. Galatea?"

Katherine looked down at the check handed to her. This time, it was filled in with a specific amount—ten million dollars, an extra zero compared to yesterday.

Sophie watched in confusion from the side. She didn't understand why Bernard was giving Katherine such a large check. She wanted to ask but didn't dare to interrupt.

Katherine raised an eyebrow and inquired, "Sir, do you think ten million dollars can buy a person's dignity?"

Bernard's handsome face remained impassive, answering, "Generally speaking, it doesn't take that much to buy an ordinary person's dignity."

Katherine looked at him with bright and clear eyes. "So, you believe that as long as the money is enough, you can buy anyone's dignity and anything attached to a person?"

Bernard elegantly smiled in affirmation.

Katherine took the check with her bandaged hands, brought it to her nose to sniff, and smiled brightly, looking reluctant to part with it. "The smell of money is so sweet! Is this check really for me?"

"Of course," answered he.

Seeing Katherine's reaction to the money, a trace of disdain flashed in Bernard's handsome eyes. He had thought Katherine was a unique girl, but now it seemed that as long as the price was right, she was no different.

Suddenly, Katherine slapped the check back into Bernard's hand and said with a smile, "For an ordinary person, ten million dollars is indeed enough for a lifetime! Sir, you're quite good-looking and seem to be worth a lot. So I'll use this ten million dollars to have you at my service for a year!"

At her service?

Bernard was momentarily stunned, frowning. What did she say?

In the past thirty years, he had never been so offended.

Billy couldn't stand seeing Mr. Mitchell being teased by a woman and wanted to step forward.

Sophie was also very angry and then retorted, "Katherine, what are you saying? Who gave you the guts to talk to Bernard like that!"

Bernard raised his hand, signaling Sophie and Billy to step aside and not interfere.

Bernard looked down at the check that had returned to his hand, narrowed his eyes, and said seriously, "Ms. Galatea, you saved my grandpa yesterday. Out of gratitude, I wanted to repay your kindness with no ill intentions. Are you sure you don't want a single penny?"

Katherine shrugged and replied, "I did take it. Didn't I use it to keep you for a year?"

Bernard stared at her for a few seconds and laughed, "Oh? Ms. Galatea, tell me, what do you want me to do with this mere ten million dollars?"

Katherine said firmly, "I want you stay away frome me and never appear in front of me again!"

Bernard's elegant smile froze, and he frowned.

Katherine's playful gaze suddenly turned cold, and she sneered, "You aristocratic types think you're irresistibly charming and are always afraid that people will have ulterior motives to cling to you. So, whether there's an issue or not, you rush to use money to dismiss people and clear your name. I'm really sick of it! Take this ten million dollars and get out of my sight!"

Bernard, Billy, and Sophie all fell silent.

At this moment, no one noticed the tall figure standing at the door of room 302 for a long time.

Alex had just heard what sounded like Katherine's voice in the hallway, so he immediately got up to check. Then, he witnessed Katherine skillfully putting Bernard in his place.

Bernard was known for his arrogance and ruthless tactics, making him a formidable opponent in the business world. Even Alex had suffered losses at Bernard's hands before.

But today, Katherine had managed to put Bernard in his place with just a few words!

Alex leaned lazily against the door frame, hands in his pockets, watching Katherine gain the upper hand. His eyes held a touch of gentle pride.

That was his Katherine!

He walked over and asked, "Why aren't you staying in the ward? What are you doing out here?"

Katherine saw Alex coming out of room 302 and walking towards her. She frowned and said irritably, "I slept too much and got bored, so I came out to see if you're still alive!"

Alex's eyes darkened with displeasure, but he seemed used to her infuriating ways and didn't get angry.

He placed his rough hand on her head, ruffling her hair teasingly. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm still alive."

Katherine took a step back, subtly avoiding his touch. She was disgusted by the hand that had just been around another woman!

Feeling tired, Katherine waved her bandaged little hand dismissively. "Take your time, guys; I gotta go."

With that, she turned and walked away. Alex naturally followed her.

Suddenly, Scarlett ran out, tearfully grabbing the man's sleeve. "Alex, don't go. Stay with me. I'm scared."

Alex stopped, looked down at Scarlett, and then looked up at Bernard. "My wife is strict. It's not convenient for me to take care of your sister anymore."

Bernard's eyes darkened slightly, and he nodded elegantly. "I understand."

Then, Alex calmly freed himself from Scarlett's grip. "Bernard is here. He'll stay with you. Get some rest."

With that, Alex quickened his pace to catch up with Katherine, who had already walked far ahead.

Watching Alex leave, Scarlett wanted to chase after him.

Bernard gently pulled his sister's arm and remarked, "Scarlett, be good. He's already married."

Scarlett shook her head in grievance and then replied, "Bernard, I know. Alex only got married to brush off Warner. He didn't really want to."

Bernard's tone was gentle but stern. "Regardless of the reason, the fact is he's married. Scarlett, you're an unmarried girl. You shouldn't get too close to a married man. Listen to me!"

Scarlett's face was full of tears. "Bernard, I want Alex, I'm scared."

Bernard looked at her with pity, pulling her into a gentle embrace. "Alright, I'll stay with you. Don't be afraid, Scarlett."

Under Bernard's patient comfort, Scarlett's emotions calmed down, from sobbing to light sniffles.

At this moment, Bernard's phone rang.

He took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and his eyes darkened. He then said to Sophie, who was watching him with infatuation, "Sophie, please help Scarlett back to the ward and keep her company for a while. I need to take this call."

Sophie blushed and nodded tenderly. "Okay, Bernard. Don't worry, I'll take care of Scarlett."

Watching Sophie coax his sister back into the ward, Bernard finally answered the call.

On the other end, his efficient subordinate reported, "Mr. Mitchell, the two unclaimed female skeletons found in Whispering Pines Village have been compared with your DNA. They do not match. They are not the Mrs. Galatea and Miss Galatea who went missing fifteen years ago."

"Find them, dead or alive. Keep searching," ordered Bernard.

"Yes, sir!"

After hanging up, Bernard pinched the bridge of his nose.

Fifteen years ago, due to complex family conflicts, his mother had left home with his five-year-old sister. They had vanished without a trace.

Everyone said they must be dead, but without seeing their bodies, Bernard would never give up searching.

Bernard snapped back to reality and instructed his secretary, "Billy, find out the background of that Katherine. She seems like a tough girl. Don't let her bully Scarlett."

"Yes, Mr. Mitchell." Billy nodded and added, "No wonder that woman didn't care about the ten-million-dollar check. She has bigger ambitions. She wants to be Mrs. Melville and everything that comes with it! Ms. Mitchell probably has no chance with Mr. Melville now."

Bernard's brow furrowed, and he narrowed his eyes.

Even without Katherine, it would be difficult for Scarlett and Alex to be together.

The feud between the Mitchell and Melville families was a long-standing one. Although the younger generation's hatred had faded, and they didn't clash when they met, the Mitchell and Melville families could never unite through marriage as long as the older generation was still alive!

And yet, Scarlett had set her sights on Alex.
