Chapter 844 Encounter at the Hospital with Alex
Bernard's eyes were cold and sharp. "Stop talking nonsense and get out of the way!"
Sunny was trembling with fear but still didn't move.
Bernard, losing patience, pushed him aside and opened the door.
Katherine was sitting by the hospital bed, feeding Edwin oatmeal. The scene was so harmonious that Bernard couldn't believe it, and the anger on his face faded away.
Sunny, who had been pushed to the ground by Bernard, got up and was also stunned by the sight.
Katherine had initially been very resistant to coming here, but now she was actually willing to feed Edwin oatmeal.
However, Katherine wasn't doing it voluntarily. Edwin had tried to drink the oatmeal himself but couldn't hold the bowl, and the wound under the bandage on his wrist had started to bleed.
She couldn't bear to watch, so she had to step in and help.
Bernard, realizing what was happening, turned and glared coldly at Sunny. "Didn't I tell you not to call her?"
Sunny scratched his head and laughed awkwardly. "Bernard, I didn't call Katherine. I went directly to the Melville Manor and brought her here."
Ignoring Sunny, Bernard strode to the bedside, took the half bowl of oatmeal from Katherine's hand, and set it aside.
"Don't bother with him. He can eat if he wants to."
Katherine looked up at Bernard, said nothing, and slowly stood up. "Mr. Bernard Mitchell, it's good that you're here. Take care of your father. I'll be leaving now."
With that, she quietly walked out.
Bernard raised his hand and gently placed it on her head. "Wait outside. I'll take you home in a bit."
Katherine had come in Sunny's car, so she indeed needed a ride back. Whether it was Bernard's car or Sunny's, it didn't matter to her.
She nodded and quietly left.
After Katherine left, Bernard stood by the bed, looking down at Edwin, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "So, you don't want to die now?"
Edwin looked at Bernard with dim eyes and a self-mocking smile. "I still want to see your mother."
Bernard laughed, thinking it was wishful thinking.
Claire didn't even want to see her own son, let alone him.
"Keep dreaming. But don't cause any more trouble for the family. Don't make Grandparents worry about you."
"Yes, I know. I won't anymore." Edwin nodded weakly. "Alright, go take Katherine home. Come back tomorrow."
Bernard sneered, "Do you want me to come back tomorrow, or do you want her to come back tomorrow?"
Edwin smiled bitterly. "I hope both of you will come back. Can you?"
Bernard said, "Father, you want her to come back tomorrow? Do you know how long it took for her to even acknowledge me? And all of this is because of you!"
Edwin lowered his eyes. "I know. I know I'm guilty."
"Good, then take care of yourself and stay alive. Don't cause me any more trouble!" Bernard said coldly and then turned to leave.
Edwin watched Bernard's back, slowly closed his eyes, and sighed deeply.
Outside.
Sunny was talking to Katherine. When he saw Bernard come out, he immediately hid behind Katherine.
Bernard gave Sunny a cold look, ignoring him, and spoke gently to Katherine. "Katherine, let's go. I'll take you home."
Katherine nodded and prepared to leave with him.
Before leaving, Bernard coldly instructed Sunny, "Stay here and watch him. Don't let anything else happen!"
Sunny nodded vigorously. "Bernard, don't worry! I won't leave Dad's side!"
Bernard gave him a brief look and then walked towards the elevator with Katherine.
Watching Bernard and Katherine get into the elevator, Sunny finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness Bernard left!
He thought Bernard would give him a hard time!
Sunny, relieved, went back into the ward. "Dad, I brought Katherine to see you. You need to take your medicine and eat well from now on!"
Edwin looked up at Sunny and forced a smile. "Sunny, thank you. You defied Bernard for me. I know you're most afraid of him."
Sunny sighed. "Dad, I am afraid of Bernard, but you know him. He's stubborn, but he cares about us!"
Edwin smiled faintly. "I know."
Sunny sat by the bed, curious. "Dad, what did Katherine say to you? Did you have a good talk? I saw she was willing to feed you oatmeal!"
Edwin recalled the interaction with Katherine. "She fed me not because of who I am, but because she's kind and felt sorry for me."
Sunny frowned. "Dad, what happened back then? Why did Katherine end up outside with someone else's last name? And why does Bernard have such a grudge against you?"
Edwin's face darkened as he remembered the past.
Seeing Edwin's silence and worsening expression, Sunny gave up asking. "Alright, Dad! If you don't want to talk about it, forget I asked! You had some oatmeal earlier, so now take your medicine."
Edwin nodded and obediently took his medicine.
Katherine and Bernard came out of the elevator, both silent.
Katherine had nothing to say, and Bernard was too embarrassed to speak.
The Mitchell family had caused Claire and Katherine to be displaced, and now they had brought Katherine back to feed the irresponsible Edwin oatmeal. Bernard felt nothing but shame.
Katherine didn't think much about it; she just followed him out of the elevator, wanting to get back to her children as soon as possible.
Suddenly, she stopped and pulled Bernard's arm, dragging him to a hidden spot.
Bernard was confused by Katherine's actions and asked, "Katherine, what's wrong?"
Katherine frowned and looked deeply in a certain direction. "Mr. Mitchell, look over there!"
Bernard followed her gaze and his pupils contracted. It was Sophia and Alex!
Sophia was pushing Alex in a wheelchair, turning a corner in the hospital's first-floor corridor.
As Sophia and Alex disappeared around the corner, Katherine immediately stepped out from her hiding spot and followed them!
Bernard, knowing he couldn't stop Katherine when it came to Alex, followed her.
They saw Sophia push Alex into an unmarked examination room!
