Chapter 233 Bumping into Alex and Scarlett

After ending the call, Billy returned and said, "Ms. Galatea, please follow me. Mr. Mitchell is ready to see you."

Katherine wasn't surprised. She rose and accompanied Billy to the president's office at Mitchell Group.

Bernard's office was just like him—elegant but distant.

Billy stepped forward and bowed. "Mr. Mitchell, Ms. Galatea is here."

On the big desk were some unique ornaments, and behind it was a high-backed chair turned away from them.

The person in the chair didn't turn around at Billy's words.

After bringing Katherine in, Billy left without another word.

Katherine stood alone, waiting quietly. When Bernard still didn't turn to look at her, she spoke up, "Hello, Mr. Mitchell. I'm Katherin. I’m, here to apply for the executive secretary."

A few seconds later, the chair slowly turned around.

Bernard held a steaming cup of coffee in his long, fair hand. He looked elegant and noble, but also indifferent and harsh, with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"It’s been a while, Ms. Galatea. What brings you here today? Why the sudden interest in becoming my secretary?"

Katherine replied, "I need money. I saw your group offers a high salary for this position, so I came."

Bernard chuckled lightly and took a sip of coffee, a hint of thin contempt flashing in his warm, handsome eyes.
Bernard scoffed, "If I recall correctly, Ms. Galatea was never a person to bend for money. When you rudely returned the check I gave you, you seemed quite resolute. I thought you considered money beneath you. Now, it seems you're not so different after all?"

Katherine looked at Bernard calmly, not embarrassed by his sarcasm. "I never said I saw money as dirt. In fact, I love money. I just don't like charity, especially condescending charity! Mr. Mitchell, let's leave the past behind. I'm here to apply for a job, hoping to earn my salary through my skills, not to beg from you. How is working honestly for money bending for it?"

Bernard narrowed his handsome eyes and smiled. "You think you can earn my money while standing tall? Ms. Galatea, aren't you overestimating yourself?"

Katherine's gaze was resolute. "Whether I'm overestimating myself or not, Mr. Mitchell, you can hire me and see for yourself."

Bernard withdrew his gaze and took a sip of coffee.

Then he said, "No need. The Mitchell Group doesn't need employees with questionable character like you, Ms. Galatea. Look elsewhere."

Katherine frowned at Bernard, thinking about how this arrogant and harsh guy might be her biological brother. She felt a chill in her heart.

If it weren't for investigating her mother's matters, she wouldn't want any contact with Bernard either.

Since she came today, she didn't plan to leave empty!

She walked forward, pulled out a chair in front of the desk, and sat down. "Mr. Mitchell, I suggest you reconsider it carefully!"

Bernard frowned, very displeased with her uninvited sitting. "Reconsider what?"
Katherine stared at his handsome, elegant face and said seriously, "While I was waiting for the interview at HR, I observed every applicant. Except for me, every girl there wasn't interested in the job—they were interested in you, Mr. Mitchell. They want to get close to you. I believe you wouldn't want a secretary who's always eyeing you, right?"

Bernard sneered, "Thanks for the warning, Ms. Galatea. But my decision not to hire them doesn't mean I have to hire you! I can easily find a male secretary to avoid such complications."

Katherine anticipated this and smiled, "There were a few guys among the applicants too. I overheard them discussing your physique and sexual orientation, which has nothing to do with work. They're also here for your looks! Compared to a female secretary with girlish fantasies, you'd probably prefer not to have a male secretary with improper thoughts about you, right?"

Bernard fell silent.

She had successfully irritated him, and he suddenly found it hard to drink his coffee.

"You make a good point. But even if what you say is true, how can I be sure you're different?" he asked.

Katherine looked him straight in the eye, her gaze clear and slightly disdainful. "Mr. Mitchell, you can rest assured. I have no interest in you at all! Even if you got drunk and tried to seduce me, I wouldn't let you succeed!"

Bernard almost choked on his coffee, cleared his throat, and glared at her, demanding, "Why?"

Katherine replied without hesitation, "Because I dislike you."
Bernard was stunned. This was the first time a girl had so bluntly said she disliked him.

"Likewise," Bernard smiled coldly. "Since you dislike me, why are you applying to be my secretary? Don't you find your actions contradictory?"

Katherine remained indifferent. "Mr. Mitchell, my personal dislike for you doesn't extend to your company or the position you're offering. I can separate personal feelings from professional responsibilities. I assure you, my work will speak for itself if you give me a chance..Futhermore, I can guarantee there will be no imappropriate behavior from my side."
Every time Bernard saw Katherine, he was surprised by her unique attitudes and statements.

In fact, he didn't exactly dislike Katherine. If it weren't for her repeatedly bullying Scarlett, he might even admire this young girl with courage and spirit.

Katherine was very beautiful, looking younger than her actual age. She possessed a maturity and calmness that shouldn't belong to someone her age. Her fearless demeanor made her stand out.

She was truly impressive!

At that moment, Billy suddenly knocked on the office door. "Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Melville and Mrs. Melville are here to see you!"

Upon hearing Billy's words, Katherine's demeanor changed adruptly. Her previous calmness and composure instantly vanished, and she reflexively stood up, wanting to leave immediately.

What the hell?

It was one thing for Scarlett to come to the company to see Bernard, but why was Alex here, too?

If Katherine bolted out of the office now, she'd run smack into Scarlett and that guy!
