Chapter 837 Grandma, Don't Overthink It
Sunny took two steps closer to her, cornering her in the elevator. He reached out and pinched her chin, "What do you think I want to do?"
The Melville Manor.
After coaxing the three children to sleep, Katherine was also ready to turn off the lights and go to bed. She was quite tired today.
Just as she reached out to turn off the light, there was a gentle knock on the door.
The knock was very light, clearly to avoid waking the children.
Katherine got up quietly to open the door. Fiona stood at the door, looking troubled.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Fiona furrowed her brows, "Katherine, are the kids all asleep?"
Katherine glanced back into the room, "Yes, they just fell asleep."
"Grandpa and Grandma are also asleep. I want to talk to you now, is that okay?"
Katherine knew what she wanted to talk about and actually wanted to refuse, but seeing her look like she wouldn't be able to sleep without getting answers, she nodded and agreed.
She opened the door to let her in.
Fiona tiptoed in and sat on the couch, speaking in a very soft voice.
"Katherine, when did you find out that Alex was trapped with Sophia?"
Katherine sat next to Fiona and answered calmly, "A little earlier than you guys."
Fiona, somewhat resentful, furrowed her brows, "Then why didn't you tell me? You know we are all very concerned about Alex's whereabouts!"
Katherine propped her head with one hand, "What good would it do to tell you? We can't bring him back right away. Knowing earlier wouldn't solve the problem."
Fiona disagreed, "Katherine, you can't think like that! We could all brainstorm together! There's strength in numbers! And even if Brent is powerful, the Melville family is not to be underestimated! I don't believe we can't get Alex back!"
Katherine frowned seriously and cautioned, "It's fine that you know about this, but don't tell Grandpa or Grandma!"
"Don't worry, I know! Grandpa and Grandma are not in good health and can't handle the stress! That's why I waited until they were asleep to come talk to you!"
"The issue now isn't whether we can get Alex back from Brent, but how to deal with the potential repercussions afterward."
"Isn't getting Alex back enough? What other repercussions are there?"
"You know what kind of person Sophia is, right? To achieve her goals, she didn't hesitate to cripple Alex's legs, and her father, Brent, does whatever she says. If we rashly take Alex back, those two will definitely find a way to retaliate against the Melville Group. You and the three kids would be at great risk! So, for now, we can't take him back. We can't stay indoors forever, especially with George, Edith, and Charles needing to go to school!"
Fiona understood Katherine's concerns and knew they were valid. She bit her lip, "So what do we do now? Just wait?"
Katherine patted Fiona's shoulder, "I already have a plan. It might be a bit troublesome to implement, but I'm confident it will succeed. So, you must keep quiet and not tell anyone, promise me!"
"Katherine, can you tell me what the plan is? Maybe I can help!"
"You can't help. The best way you can help is by looking after George, Edith, and Charles."
"Alright then! Katherine, if there's anything else I can help with, you must let me know!"
Katherine smiled and nodded, "Don't worry, I won't hesitate to ask. Now, go get some rest!"
Fiona stood up, "I won't disturb you any longer, Katherine. You should rest early too."
"Okay."
Katherine saw Fiona out of the room.
Fiona walked back to her room, still frowning with worry for Katherine and for Alex, whom she hadn't seen in years. She hoped Alex could come back smoothly this time without any more incidents and stay peacefully with Katherine.
As she walked to her room, she suddenly heard Sandra's voice behind her.
"Fiona, why are you up in the middle of the night and going to Katherine's room?"
Fiona stopped in her tracks and turned around to see Sandra being helped by a maid, walking towards her.
She felt a bit guilty, "Grandma, why aren't you asleep yet?"
Sandra walked up to Fiona, "I don't know why, but I felt very uneasy and couldn't sleep, so I came out for a walk. Fiona, I saw you coming out of Katherine's room. What's going on? Is something wrong with Katherine or the three kids?"
Fiona quickly shook her head, "No, nothing's wrong!"
Sandra found it odd, "Then why were you in Katherine's room in the middle of the night?"
Fiona remembered Katherine's earlier warning and, after thinking for a moment, made up an excuse, "I ran out of skincare products after my shower, so I went to borrow some from Katherine."
Sandra, hearing it was for such a trivial reason, was a bit annoyed and lectured, "I thought it was something serious! Next time, don't disturb Katherine for such small things. She's already very tired from taking care of the kids and managing the company. She needs her rest! Missing one day of skincare won't hurt you!"
"Grandma, I understand! I won't disturb Katherine with such small things again! I'll go to bed now!"
With that, Fiona tried to slip away, afraid Sandra would see through her lie.
"Wait!" Sandra called out to her again.
Fiona stopped reluctantly, "Grandma, is there anything else?"
Sandra, feeling unwell, held her head, "Have you heard any news about Alex from Katherine recently?"
Fiona felt extremely guilty, "No, Grandma! Why are you asking all of a sudden? If there were any news about Alex, we would definitely tell you right away!"
Sandra sighed, "I don't know why, but I've been dreaming about Alex these past few days. In my dreams, he's either injured or locked in a cage! In the dream, I try to save him but can't, and I wake up in a panic every day! I didn't dare tell your grandpa, afraid he'd worry."
Fiona was stunned, not expecting Sandra to have such accurate premonitions.
But she couldn't tell the truth, so she could only comfort Sandra, "Grandma, you're just too worried about Alex, that's why you're having these nightmares. Don't think too much about it! Katherine will definitely inform you as soon as there's news about Alex. I believe Alex is fine, just unable to come back for now. He will come back."
