Chapter 804 Don't Hold It Against Her

Sophia remembered that Brent had never cared so much about her mother before!

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got!

Brent, unaware of Sophia's hidden emotions, put his arm around Linda's shoulder and walked over to Sophia.

Seeing that Sophia was alone, Brent frowned with some displeasure, "What's going on? Sophia, did you come here by yourself? Where are Trevor and Julian?"

Sophia snapped back to reality and explained to Brent, "Dad, Trevor has trouble with his leg, so I didn't bring him along. Julian stayed home to keep him company!"

Brent responded, "Isn't there a wheelchair for that? We came all this way, and he didn't even make an effort to come and greet us. That's really inconsiderate."

Sophia didn't like Brent talking about Trevor that way and frowned, "Dad, don't say that about Trevor! Don't forget how his leg ended up like that. He doesn't want to be like this either!"

Brent felt a bit guilty, not for Trevor, but for Sophia.

No matter what, it was him who crippled Alex back then. If he had controlled his temper and shown some restraint, Sophia wouldn't have to live with a disabled person now.

Brent didn't say anything, but Linda, who was standing next to him, spoke up, "Sophia, that's not right! I think you should thank Dad instead of blaming him!"

Sophia felt a surge of irritation at Linda's words, but she managed to suppress her true feelings and responded as politely as she could, "Linda, what do you mean by that? I don't understand! If Dad crippled your future husband, would you thank him?"

Linda took her hands out of her pockets and shrugged, "Of course I wouldn't!"

Sophia's lips curled into a sarcastic smile, "Then why should I thank Dad?"

Linda nonchalantly explained her reasoning, "I wouldn't because when I grow up, I definitely won't insist on marrying a man who doesn't love me, making Dad worry and forcing him to beat him up!  But you're different, Sophia! You insisted on clinging to a man who didn't love you and already had a family! You made Dad worry, and he had no choice but to break his leg to keep him by your side! If Dad hadn't intervened, I'm sure Trevor wouldn't have stayed with you. He would have gone back to his wife and kids! Sophia, don't you think you should thank Dad? If Dad hadn't broken Trevor's leg, how could you be with him now?"

The truth could be harsh, and Sophia was infuriated by Linda's words, "Who taught you to talk to me like this? Was it your mom?"

Linda shook her head honestly, "No one taught me. I'm just saying what I see! My mom isn't that petty to teach me these things!"

Sophia couldn't hold back anymore and pointed at Linda, then at the embarrassed and helpless Nora standing nearby, "It's you! You taught her to say this! Nora, what are you trying to do?"

Nora shook her head innocently, "No, I didn't, Sophia, I'm sorry. Linda is just being thoughtless. I'll have her apologize to you. Linda, apologize to Sophia right now!"

Linda frowned, "I didn't lie, so why should I apologize? My teachers at school always tell me to be honest!"

Nora was at a loss for words.

Sophia was so angry she could barely contain herself. She looked at Brent with both grievance and fury, "Dad! You heard it! Nora is teaching Linda to target me!"

Brent frowned. To him, both were his daughters, and he cared for them equally.

And just now, Linda was only speaking up for him, unintentionally revealing the hurtful truth to Sophia.

"Sophia, Linda is still young. Just consider her words as childish prattle. I'll talk to her and make sure it doesn't happen again. For now, let's head to the hotel since we're in a public place."

Sophia felt terrible, but since Brent had said so, she couldn't throw a tantrum. She had to calm her anger and take Brent to the hotel.

In the car, Brent turned around and saw that Nora and Linda, sitting in the back row, were asleep. He then spoke softly to Sophia, who was sitting next to him, "Sophia, stop frowning! I know you're angry, but you have to understand my situation. Nora has been with me all these years without complaint, and both she and Linda are good people."

Sophia let out a sarcastic laugh, "Dad, you think they're good people, but if they think I'm bad, would you also think I'm bad?"

Brent shook his head solemnly, "That's nonsense. How could I ever think you're bad? You're my biological daughter! Besides, Nora and Linda don't think you're bad. Nora often reminds me to care about you, even more attentively than I do! As for Linda, she's just a kid. She doesn't have any hidden agendas; she just says what she feels."

Sophia was even more upset, "Dad! So you mean what Linda said at the airport was true? You also think no one wants me, and it's only because you broke Trevor's leg that he couldn't escape and stayed with me, right?"

Brent felt deeply for Sophia's troubled love life but couldn't ignore the facts.

"Sophia, it's not that I mean, but you know what happened back then and how you kept Trevor by your side. You can't lie to yourself! I feel for you and don't want you to suffer with Trevor, but you wouldn't listen! For your happiness, I had to compromise."

Sophia's face turned grim, feeling utterly exposed by Brent's words. She was ashamed.

But she still hoped Brent would unconditionally support her and believe she did nothing wrong!

"Dad, I just love him too much. I can't live without him."

Brent sighed. "I know, which is why I didn't stop you from doing what you did later! But Sophia, you have to distinguish right from wrong. What you did back then was indeed wrong. Linda didn't lie, so don't hold it against her. She's just a child."
