Chapter 166 Ms. Galatea's Wide Network
Katherine also glanced in the direction where David's car had driven off and understood the hidden meaning in Alex's words.
Then she explained, "Mr. Hall majored in law at Janetrick University, which is the same school I attended. . He's a really kind person, and I owe him a lot for his help this time."
"Kind?" Alex stubbed out his half-smoked cigarette, his deep eyes fixed on her. "Mr. Hall is a famously hard-to-hire lawyer at Janetrick. How could he step in to help just because you're from the same school? You two must be pretty close, huh?"
It was clear Alex was questioning her.
Katherine didn't want to explain. She couldn't think of a reasonable explanation and didn't want to reveal her other identity.
The more you say, the more mistakes you make, so she chose to remain silent.
Just then, Teresa appeared out of nowhere, firing a confetti cannon. "Katherine, congratulations on clearing your name!"
Katherine was startled and hadn't yet reacted.
Seeing this, Alex's brow furrowed, and he immediately pulled her into his arms, wrapping her in his coat protectively. His cold, sharp gaze turned to Teresa. "What are you doing?"
Teresa looked innocent. "Alex, I'm just here to get rid of Katherine's bad luck!"
Alex frowned, holding Katherine close, his rough hand gently wiping the cold sweat from her forehead. He glared at Teresa, "I think you're the one bringing bad luck. Stay away from her!"
Alex was angry, and Teresa quickly took a few steps back, but she still tried to defend herself. "Alex, how could you say that? I came here specifically to pick up Katherine!"
Alex's face darkened even more. "She's allergic and just got out of the hospital. Do you want her to go back?"
Teresa was stunned, finally understanding why Alex was so tense. She felt ashamed. "Oh! I... I forgot! I'm sorry!"
He sternly reprimanded her, "Don't use those tricks to scare her again!"
Feeling guilty, Teresa immediately admitted her mistake. "I'm sorry! I know I was wrong! Katherine, are you okay?"
Katherine laughed, then mischievously rubbed her face against Alex's expensive shirt, giggling all the while.
Even though Alex was displeased, he let her have her way in his arms.
Teresa was bewildered, looking at Katherine in surprise. "Katherine, what are you laughing at?"
"I'm laughing because you're adorable!" Katherine said, still laughing as she broke free from Alex's embrace. She walked over to Teresa, placed her hands on her shoulders, and patted them. "Teresa, thank you! I really do need to get rid of some bad luck. Things haven't been going well, especially since I got involved with Alex!"
Hearing Katherine say this, Teresa immediately felt proud. "Alex, did you hear that? Katherine thinks you're the bad luck, not me!"
Alex was very angry, but he didn't argue with the girls.
Then, the two girls huddled together, whispering and giggling, leaving Alex out in the cold.
He looked on with a cold expression, adjusting his shirt that Katherine had deliberately wrinkled. Helplessly, he pinched the bridge of his nose and moved a few steps away, lighting another cigarette.
Scarlett walked over, and her soft voice sounded, "Alex, are you here to pick up Katherine?"
She had just been with Bernard, inquiring about Sophie's situation, which had delayed her until now. As soon as she came out and saw Alex standing at the door, Scarlett immediately left Bernard and ran over.
Seeing Scarlett approach, the smile on Teresa's face instantly disappeared. She snorted and said irritably, "The person who brings the most bad luck is here again!"
Katherine looked at Scarlett, then at Alex's now gentle expression, and turned her gaze away, looking elsewhere out of boredom. She happened to see Bernard standing helplessly by a luxury car not far away, waiting for Scarlett to return.
Scarlett did live a carefree life, with Bernard unconditionally pampering her. She had nothing to fear; whenever something happened, she could just hide behind Bernard.
Katherine thought about herself. Since she was a child, she had nothing and had to face everything on her own, finding her own solutions.
Even though she had become her own source of strength today, looking back, would she be grateful for the hardships that made her stronger step by step?
No.
If given a choice, no one would want to go through hardships.
Nearby, Scarlett's gentle and kind voice drifted into her ears again. "Alex, I've already apologized to Katherine for this misunderstanding! It's all Sophie's fault! She made a mistake! But she's not inherently bad; you know Sophie well, you've known her for years!"
She continued, "So, Alex, can you help me persuade Katherine not to hold Sophie accountable, to let her off this one last time, please? The police said that as long as Katherine and I don't charges, Sophie won't have to be detained."
Hearing this, Katherine let out a sarcastic laugh and turned to look at Alex, wondering if he would give in to Scarlett's gentle plea and agree.
Alex's expression was very calm, and under the shroud of cigarette smoke, it was hard to read his face. He exhaled a puff of smoke and said indifferently, "Things shouldn't happen repeatedly. This isn't the first time Sophie has maliciously harmed Katherine. Even if Katherine agrees to let her go this time, I won't."
Katherine was stunned, staring blankly at Alex, recalling his words.
"Alex." Scarlett was taken aback, lowering her head in disappointment. "Alright, I got it."
Alex stubbed out his cigarette, walked past Scarlett, and strode towards Katherine. "Let's go, we're going home."
The words "we're going home" were clear and firm.
While Katherine was still in a daze, he had already taken her hand, opened the car door, and helped her into the car. He bent down to fasten her seat belt before closing the door.
As Alex walked back to the driver's seat, he passed by Scarlett and paused for a moment, saying in a deep voice, "You should go home early too. Bernard is waiting for you."
Scarlett snapped out of it and nodded. "Okay, Alex, I understand."
Teresa came over with a cheeky smile. "Alex, what about me?"
Alex glanced at her and walked past without mercy. "However you got here, that's how you get back!"
Teresa looked incredulous. "What? Alex! Alex, don't leave! Alex... Hey! Are you kidding me? Are you even my real uncle?"
Teresa chased after Alex, trying to hitch a ride, but Alex's car swiftly drove off, leaving her behind.
"Alex." Teresa was left speechless and on the verge of tears.
Scarlett looked at Teresa sympathetically and offered. "Teresa, do you want to come with me? I can ask Bernard to give you a ride!"
Teresa gave Scarlett a disdainful look and refused without a second thought. "No need, I'll get a cab myself!"
With that, Teresa quickly turned and ran off, as if fleeting from danger.
Watching Alex's retreating car and Teresa's ungrateful back, a stark contrast of dark malice suddenly appeared in Scarlett's pure, innocent eyes. She gritted her teeth.
"Why are you still looking? They're long gone! Come on, let's go home!" Bernard's concerned voice came from behind.
The malice in Scarlett's eyes instantly vanished, replaced by her usual gentle expression. She turned around and said sweetly, "Okay, Bernard, let's go home!"
