Chapter 581 Hanging Up the Phone

Teresa was seriously ticked off by what Frank said to her in the restroom that afternoon. She didn't wanna talk to him anymore and was even thinking about skipping work tomorrow.

'Maybe Frank really thinks I'm cheap, to talk to me like that!' Teresa fumed inwardly.

"Not heading home? Where you off to?" Frank leaned on the car window, poking his head out.

"I'm off the clock. Do I gotta tell you where I'm going?" Teresa snapped, not even looking his way.

Frank frowned. "You came out with us for work. If something happens on your way home, it's on all of us. Just get in the car."

Teresa shot back, "Don't worry, if something happens, I won't blame you or Ms. Hawthorne! Mr. Perez, go home and get some rest! Bye!"

With that, Teresa turned into an alley where cars couldn't follow.

She was super annoyed and didn't wanna hear Frank's voice messing with her head.

It got dark early in winter.

Seeing Teresa head into that dark alley alone, Frank squinted and told the driver to stop.

Ambrosia gave him a knowing look, adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses, and said, "You're such a jerk!"

Frank shrugged. "Yep, I am!"

Then he got out and followed Teresa into the alley.

Ambrosia didn't wait for him and waved the driver to go.

The alley was pitch black. Frank sped up to catch Teresa, but she started running and quickly got out of the dark alley into a busy area.

Naturally, Frank sped up too. Just as he was about to catch up, he saw Teresa jogging up to a guy.

Teresa, out of breath, said, "Sorry, Anthony, did you wait long?"

Anthony's eyes lit up when he saw her and quickly shook his head. "No! I'm just glad you came. I thought you wouldn't!"

Teresa caught her breath and said, "I promised to watch a movie with you, so I won't break my promise. I just got held up, sorry!"

While playing casino in the afternoon, Anthony had messaged her again, asking if she was down for a movie.

Teresa was in a bad mood and needed a distraction, so she accepted Anthony's invite and sent him the meetup spot.

Even though Teresa wasn't into horror movies, she figured getting scared might help her forget her troubles.

Anthony grinned, "Then let's go!"

Teresa nodded. "Okay!"

The subway station was nearby, and they walked together, not noticing Frank standing not far behind, watching with a weird look on his face.

'Teresa's actually going to a movie with Anthony? A guy asking a girl to a horror movie, everyone knows what that means. But why do I care?' Frank thought as he turned to hail a cab but stopped after a few steps, clenching his fists. He couldn't stand the thought of Teresa getting scared and leaning on Anthony. Suddenly, he turned around and strode into the subway station.

Meanwhile, Katherine headed upstairs after dinner. Charles was on the bed, playing with toys, with two maids keeping an eye on him.

When Katherine got back, she sent the maids away. She brought some baby food for Charles and told him to stop playing and come eat.

Charles was super obedient. As soon as Katherine called, he dropped his toys and ran over to eat.

Katherine showed him how to use a spoon to feed himself. Charles nodded and followed her lead. Even though he was a bit clumsy, he managed to get the hang of it.

Watching Charles feed himself, Katherine got all emotional. 'I'm about to leave, and who knows if the Melville family will take good care of Charles. With no blood relatives around and Alex being a jerk who might not treat him well, even if he does, he won't have time for Charles. That's why I'm teaching him to use a spoon. If no one feeds him after I leave, at least he won't starve.' While she was lost in thought, her phone rang.

She had two phones now, one hers and one from Ambrosia.

The one ringing was hers, and it was Alex.

'Wow, Alex actually remembers to call me! Abroad with his legal wife, and he still finds time to call? Guess Frank's right, he's a master of time management!' she thought.

Katherine answered the call.

She didn't say anything, and there was silence on the other end. Finally, Alex spoke first, "What are you doing?"

Katherine replied coolly, "Watching Charles eat."

"Have you eaten?"

"Yeah."

He asked, she answered, no emotion.

If she could, Katherine wouldn't have answered or said another word to Alex.

But she was planning to escape from the Melville family and needed Alex to lower his guard.

Alex seemed to sigh, and his tone got somber, "Did you play casino with Sandra today? Are you tired?"

Katherine answered honestly, "I'm okay."

Alex continued, "If you're tired, you can tell Sandra directly. You don't have to stay with her so long. It's not good for you to sit for too long now."

Katherine responded, "Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to the baby. You just focus on your work!"

Alex was silent for about a minute, then said, annoyed, "Do you think I called just to check on the baby?"

Katherine said, "Yes."

Alex's tone got even more irritated. "Hang up! There's nothing to talk about with you!"

Katherine responded with an "Oh" and hung up immediately, no hesitation.

But Alex was just venting, waiting for Katherine to explain something, but he heard nothing and realized the call had been hung up.

Alex was so mad he almost crushed his phone as a woman walked over. "What's wrong, Alex?"
