Chapter 170 Alex Acts Like He's in Love
Alex didn't even look at it; he just turned off the device and shoved it into his pocket, ignoring it completely.
Katherine leaned against the steel railing of Whispering Willow Bridge, gazing into the distance. The river breeze blew through her hair, making her look both elegant and beautiful.
Across the way was the Whispering Ripple waterfront, where the tallest skyscrapers of Janetrick could be seen.
He said, "Be careful, don't fall off!"
Alex grabbed her collar from behind, lifting her like a little rabbit.
Katherine's picturesque moment lasted less than three seconds before Alex ended it.
He lifted her so high that her feet left the ground, making her feel uncomfortable.
She genuinely felt that Alex sometimes treated her like a pet who couldn't take care of herself, always bossing her around. It was annoying!
Katherine called out, "Alex, let go! I'm not stupid; I wouldn't let myself fall!"
Alex only released her after pulling her a bit further from the edge of the bridge, allowing her feet to touch the ground.
Then, looking down at her, he sneered, "You think you're not stupid?"
Katherine frowned in displeasure and snapped, "Of course I'm not stupid!"
He retorted, "If you're not stupid, why can't you understand?"
"What can't I understand?" inquired she.
Alex looked at her with frustration. "Think about it yourself."
Katherine found him incredibly boring and decided not to dwell on it. She asked, "Alex, when will your people come to pick us up?"
Alex, with his hands in his pockets, stood beside her. Looking at the distant river view, he said sternly, "No one is coming to pick us up."
What?
Didn't he just tell Scarlett that someone would come to pick them up soon?!
Katherine furrowed her brows and said, "No one's coming? So, are we goingto walk back?"
Alex squinted and replied, "What's wrong with walking? Don't you young people like to take walks when you're dating?"
Katherine looked disgusted and couldn't help but retort, "What era are you living in? Who likes to take walks on the road when they're dating? What's the point? Ihaling car exhaust ?"
Alex fell silent.
Just as Katherine was mocking Alex for being old-fashioned, she suddenly realized that something was off about his words.
Alex had mentioned dating.
Why was he comparing their current situation to dating?
Katherine stood there, dumbfounded, pondering the subtle meaning in Alex's words, unsure if she was interpreting it correctly.
Alex bent down slightly to match Katherine's height, looking deeply into her eyes. "So, how do you young people like to date nowadays? Teach me."
Katherine snapped out of it, feeling that Alex's words were even more off, and awkwardly forced a smile. "We don't do much, just eating, drinking, games, escape rooms, murder mystery games, stuff like that."
Alex furrowed his brows. To a mature man like him, everything except eating and drinking seemed like a waste of time. "So, you like those activities too?"
Katherine nodded. "Kind of. I used to go with my classmates; it was pretty fun!"
Alex's brow furrowed deeper. "Male classmates or female classmates?"
Katherine felt a bit guilty, like a teenager being interrogated by their parents after going out to play.
But then she thought, she was not a teenager, so why should she be afraid? She replied, "Both male and female classmates! Alex, don't be so conservative!"
Conservative?
Alex's face darkened, and he pinched the bridge of his nose, seemingly trying to control his displeasure, "Katherine, you..."
At that moment, Katherine's stomach let out an embarrassing growl.
She was hungry.
Seeing Katherine's embarrassed look, half of Alex's anger dissipated. He gazed at her, a slight smile tugging at his lips, and gently patted her head with his large hand. "Alright, let's start with getting something to eat. What do you want?"
Start with getting something to eat? What did he mean by that?
Alex's words made Katherine feel a bit uncomfortable, as if she was in a fog. It couldn't be what she was thinking, right?
She didn't want to ask directly, as it would make her seem self-absorbed if she overthought it.
She touched her empty stomach and turned her face away from him. "I don't care what we eat. I just don't want to walk anymore; I'm so tired."
As soon as she said that, Alex scooped her up in his arms!
Katherine was stunned and blushed with embarrassment. "Alex! what are you doing?"
He carried her along the edge of the bridge, glancing down at her. "Didn't you say you didn't want to walk?"
Katherine was speechless. "I meant for you to call someone to pick us up, not to carry me!"
Alex strode forward, unfazed. "You've got what you want, right? What's the difference between me carrying you and you riding in a car?"
Katherine's mouth twitched. Why didn't she notice before that Alex was a logic genius?
She said, "No, Alex, this is really embarrassing! This is Whispering Willow Bridge. Every car passing by is giving us weird looks. They might even take pictures and post them online. Don't you care about your reputation?"
Alex answered, "We're legally married. Why should I care?"
Katherine remarked, "But I feel really embarrassed!"
He comforted. "Don't worry. Any video or photo of my face won't be posted without my permission."
Katherine fell silent.
Even if the photos didn't get posted, this situation was still incredibly awkward, okay?
Being carried like a princess on Whispering Willow Bridge would make people think they were both crazy!
Katherine couldn't break free, and she didn't want to die of embarrassment, so she adopted an ostrich mentality, burying her face in his chest to let him be the one to lose face.
As long as she didn't show her face, the only one embarrassed would be Alex!
Feeling the wind around her lessen, Katherine sneakily turned her face to look around. She sighed in relief; they had finally walked off Whispering Willow Bridge!
She tried to negotiate with him. "Alex, thank you! You've carried me for so long; you must be tired. Put me down; I want to walk now."
Alex bent down and carefully set her down, a teasing glint in his eyes. "You're as light as a feather. How could I get tired?"
Katherine rolled her eyes. "A feather that weighs ninety-nine pounds?"
Alex chuckled, his rough hand ruffling her hair. "Yes, my feather."
Katherine froze and then blushed.
When it came to flirting, he was definitely top-notch!
Luckily, she had good self-control, or she would have fallen for him already.
Katherine looked around. "I don't think we can catch a cab here. There should be a subway station up ahead. Let's take the subway to the restaurant, Alex!"
Alex followed her lead without question.
At the subway station, it was their turn to buy tickets. Katherine was about to do it herself when Alex stepped forward and operated the ticket machine with his deft fingers, buying two tickets for the 7-line that passed through the city's commercial district.
Watching his skilled operation, Katherine couldn't help but think of the last time when Alex had to take the subway with her due to traffic, he had to call Leander for help because he didn't know how to buy a ticket.
Katherine said, "Alex, you seem pretty familiar with the subway lines now, huh?"
