Chapter 132 Alexander, Your Values Are Twisted
Sophie was taken aback, her eyes filled with a hint of disdain as she looked at Katherine. "So it's you, Katherine! You booked this place for three days next month. Are you planning to invite everyone to come and have fun again?"
Katherine nodded. "That's right, I'm treating."
Sophie sneered, "Then this doesn't make sense. If you're treating, why should I foot the bill? Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"
Katherine looked completely unbothered, not feeling anything was wrong at all.
"Ms. Jones, did you forget? Yesterday, you promised that if I could prove that the earring wasn't placed in your shoe by me, you would cover all the expenses for everyone that day. What now? Ms. Jones, are you unwilling to pay the bill? Are you trying to renege on your promise?" Katherine asked.
Sophie was stunned; she had indeed forgotten about this!
But when she promised to pay, she estimated that the group's expenses for the day would be at most $10,000.
Now, the bill came out to be $50,000!
For anyone, that was not a small amount to spend casually. Sophie could buy a limited edition designer bag with that money!
"Katherine, I did agree to cover everyone's expenses for the day, but your booking for three days next month clearly falls under next month's expenses. It shouldn't be counted in yesterday's bill, right?" Sophie stated.
Katherine didn't directly answer Sophie but instead looked at the ranch staff member and said, "Hello, may I ask if the things I booked yesterday are counted in yesterday's expenses and settled together? Is there any problem with that?"
The staff member responded respectfully and truthfully, "That's correct. The order you placed yesterday, the receipts, and the recorded amounts are all noted under yesterday's account, so settling it together now is very reasonable, and there's no problem at all."
The staff member's response made Sophie embarrassed, so she said nothing further.
Katherine curled her lips and gave Sophie a faint smile. "Yesterday, I originally wanted to treat everyone to a big meal and have some fun, but because of certain actions by Ms. Jones, things kept going wrong, and we couldn't sit down and enjoy a meal together all day. So, I booked the place for three days next month, thinking of making it up to everyone then! If Ms. Jones is unwilling to pay, then I'll cover it myself!"
Saying this, Katherine took out her phone, ready to pay the bill.
Of course, she was holding Alex's phone, so if she really had to pay, it would be from Alex's account balance.
She had no obligation to spend her own money on these people!
So, spending Alex's money to treat Alex's friends to food and entertainment was very reasonable.
Sophie stiffened her face, adjusted herself, and forced a smile. "Katherine, you really misunderstood me. How could I be unwilling to spend this money? You're right; I admit that I was partly to blame for this unpleasant trip! It's all because of the mistake I made yesterday, so I should invite everyone again next month as compensation! And by then, Scarlett should be back in the country. We haven't seen each other for a long time, so it would be a great opportunity to catch up! So, let me pay the bill!"
Although Sophie conceded to pay the bill, she didn't forget to mention that Scarlett would be back soon, subtly trying to undermine Katherine!
However, Katherine didn't care at all, her lips naturally curling into a light, breezy smile. "Alright, then, thank you for your generosity, Ms. Jones."
Sophie moved to take her bag, pulled out a bank card, and handed it to the staff member. "Go ahead and charge it, no password."
"Alright, Ms. Jones." The staff member bowed, took the card, and went out to process the payment.
Meanwhile, Sophie smiled even brighter, pretending to be generous, as she said to Katherine, "Katherine, this isn't a big expense at all, just $50,000. For us spendthrifts, it's just a small amount! Katherine, you must not be used to this level of spending, right? That's why you think it's a big deal, but it really isn't!"
Her words seemed polite, but they subtly isolated Katherine as the only outsider.
However, Katherine not only didn't feel embarrassed but also nodded honestly. "Yes, I'm not used to it. I rarely spend money on such trivial leisure activities. My money is usually spent on more critical things."
Sophie chuckled lightly, looking at Katherine with a condescending attitude typical of the aristocracy. "It doesn't matter; we just have different values. You'll get used to it over time. People like us, who are wealthy and idle, have a lot of free time and nothing much to do ourselves, so we like to play around and spend money to find some fun."
Katherine's expression remained indifferent. "That's nice."
Sophie then adopted a tone of tolerant acceptance. "Katherine, in the future, you should spend more time with us to get influenced by our ways. Otherwise, you and Alex, who have been pampered since childhood, will have conflicting values, and it will be hard for you to live together harmoniously!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Really? Then maybe I should take him out into society to get some real-world experience and change his spoiled habits!"
She and Alex were not from the same world, and she did not intend to become part of his world.
So why should she adopt their values? It was very superficial!
As soon as Katherine said this, everyone was stunned for a moment. Then Hilton couldn't help but laugh softly, leaning on Issac's shoulder.
Katherine, indeed, had character!
The others also looked at Katherine with different thoughts, but there was a layer of admiration in their eyes. To say such things about Alex, no one else but her would dare!
Katherine herself didn't realize that Alex had already returned as she spoke. Hearing her words, he paused, standing at the doorway. His long eyes narrowed as he looked at her, his expression unreadable.
Spoiled?
Was that how she described her husband?
Sophie was momentarily stunned, then sneered, "Katherine, you must be joking! Do you want Alex to change for you? That's impossible! You have to understand that Alex has been raised as the heir of the Melville Manor since he was a child. How could he easily change his lifelong values? Besides, with his conditions, he doesn't need to change at all!"
Katherine was indifferent, lazily raising an eyebrow. "Sorry, I'm not joking. I can't agree with your values. So, if anyone needs to change, it's him, not me. I refuse to be influenced and twisted into a vain and arrogant person by the values of your rich people'. I don't think there's anything wrong with my values, and I have no intention to change them. Thank you!"
What?
Twisted? Vain? Arrogant?
Sophie felt that Katherine's words had offended everyone in the room!
Sophie sighed sarcastically. "Well, there's nothing we can do then! You're so stubborn; it seems you and Alex are destined to have conflicting values! Frankly, marriages with such conflicting values rarely last long!"
Katherine didn't care; after all, her relationship with Alex was fake and wasn't meant to last!
"Whether my wife and I have aligned values is not for an outsider to judge." Alex's deep, calm voice rang out, commanding respect without anger.
