Chapter 867 Why Do You Ask

Katherine's voice was so gentle, and her eyes were filled with maternal love and sincerity, making Charles unconsciously want to snuggle into her arms.

But the next second, he snapped out of it!

He couldn't compete with George and Edith for Katherine's affection, or he might be sent away at any time.

Thinking of this, Charles said seriously, "Thank you, Mommy, for always taking such good care of me, but I'm a big boy now. I need to learn to be independent. From now on, I want to sleep by myself."

Katherine sighed, "You're not even five years old yet. How can you call yourself a big boy?"

Charles pressed his lips tightly together, looking stubborn and determined.

Seeing this, Katherine didn't want to discourage Charles's desire for independence. She gently patted his head, "Alright, if you want to sleep alone, you can. Mommy won't disturb you. If you get scared or miss me in the middle of the night, you can come to my room anytime!"

Charles nodded, "Okay."

Katherine stood up, "Then you read your book for a while. I'll call you when lunch is ready."

Charles responded softly, feeling a bit down as he watched Katherine turn and leave.

In fact, he didn't want Katherine to go. He wanted her to stay and keep him company, but he didn't dare to say it, nor did he have the right to.

Katherine was probably going back to be with George and Edith now. He couldn't get in her way.

Katherine didn't go back to the room to be with George and Edith; instead, she went downstairs to the kitchen.

She was hungry and wanted to find something to eat, and she also wanted to cook something delicious for George, Edith, and Charles herself!

Brent returned to the hotel and happened to run into Sophia coming back from grocery shopping in the elevator.

Seeing his pampered daughter carrying a large bag of groceries, Brent frowned in displeasure and asked, "The hotel has all kinds of food. Why did you go out to buy so much? And you went yourself? Couldn't you have someone else do it for you?"

Sophia shrugged it off, "Dad! I was bored anyway, so I thought I'd go for a walk and get some exercise! Trevor said the hotel food was too greasy, so I decided to make something healthier for him myself!"

Brent gestured for his assistant to help Sophia with the bags and then looked at her in surprise, "What? You're cooking for that disabled guy now?"

Sophia frowned in displeasure, "Dad, how many times have I told you? Please don't call Trevor disabled! Yes, I'm learning to cook for him. Seeing Trevor eat the food I make makes me very happy!"

'Happy? If Trevor really loves you, he should be the one cooking for you!'

Brent thought to himself but didn't say it out loud to avoid upsetting Sophia. He really couldn't believe that Sophia, who had never cooked, was now doing it for Trevor!

'Sophia had never been willing to cook before! That disabled guy really is treating my daughter like a servant! Who knows if he ever let that woman named Katherine cook for him?'

The elevator doors opened, and Sophia invited, "Dad, why don't you come to our room and try my cooking? I've learned a few new dishes recently!"

Brent was in a bad mood and had no appetite, but he wanted to see how Sophia and Trevor interacted.

So he nodded and agreed, "Alright!"

Sophia smiled, looking genuinely happy.

In fact, she was really happy because she felt she was about to get pregnant with Trevor's child. Even though Trevor was still mad at her, she didn't care much.

Brent followed Sophia to their suite. Sophia instructed someone to put the groceries in the kitchen and then handed Brent a drink.

"Dad, why don't you sit on the couch and wait for a bit? I'll be done soon."

Brent sat on the couch and looked around but didn't see Trevor or Julian. He asked, "Where are they? Why are you the only one here?"

Sophia, busy washing ingredients in the kitchen, answered with a bit of frustration, "Trevor's in a bad mood today and is sleeping in the room! I'll call him when the food is ready. Dad, don't worry about it!"

Sophia really was treating Trevor like royalty!

Whenever Nora cooked at home, Brent would roll up his sleeves to help. Now Trevor was just lying in the room, which made Brent very unhappy!

Brent couldn't help but think of what Nora and Linda had said to him earlier.

Was Sophia really happy these past few years? Wasn't she just deceiving herself?

Trevor never cared about Sophia, not before his amnesia, and even less so after!

Seeing Sophia humble herself like this made Brent uncomfortable.

Brent put down his drink and went to the kitchen to watch Sophia work.

Sophia felt Brent's gaze and looked up in surprise, "What's wrong? Dad, why are you here? Just sit over there and watch TV! I can handle this myself!"

Brent wanted to light a cigarette but decided against it.

"Sophia, let me ask you, do you really feel happy keeping Trevor by your side all these years?"

Sophia paused, her hands stopping their work, "Dad, why are you asking me this all of a sudden?"

Brent sighed. "I'm worried about you. I raised you without letting you do any hard work, not to see you humble yourself to serve Trevor! I want you to find a man who truly loves, cherishes, and spoils you! Sophia, why don't you let Trevor go back to where he came from? We don't need to cater to him anymore!"

Hearing this, Sophia immediately frowned in alarm, "Dad! What are you talking about? Trevor and I are doing fine. I love him, and he loves me. We're about to have our own child. How can you say something so discouraging now?"

Brent looked troubled, "He loves you? How does he love you? If he loved you, he wouldn't let you do all this work alone without even checking on you! If he loved you, you wouldn't need artificial insemination to have a child! Sophia, stop lying to yourself! Let him go, and I'll find you a better, more handsome man! Why settle for this disabled guy?"

Sophia got angry, "Dad! What's wrong with you? Did someone say something to you?"
