Chapter 73 You Two Didn't Look Like Real Spouses

"I don't know him! How could I possibly know a big shot like Mr. Melville? I'm not worthy!" Katherine hurriedly replied, pulling her hand back with all her might.

However, because she pulled back too forcefully, the coffee cup was knocked askew, and half a cup of coffee spilled out, scalding Alex's hand red in an instant.

"Katherine, what are you doing? You can't even handle a cup of coffee!" Sherry exclaimed as she pushed Katherine aside and rushed over to tend to Alex's burn.

"Mr. Melville, are you hurt? I'm sorry. My assistant from the countryside is just too clumsy. I will definitely teach her a lesson later!" she then continued.

Alex coldly withdrew his hand, not letting Sherry touch him, and casually shook off the remaining coffee on his hand. He took the tissue handed to him by the waiter and calmly wiped his hands.

His sinister gaze remained fixed on Katherine, showing no sign of emotion about the burn incident. After a two-second silence, he spoke meaningfully, "She indeed needs a good lesson."

Sherry's hand reached out in concern but found nothing. She hesitated for a moment, and then turned to reprimand, "Katherine, what are you still standing there for? Hurry up to kneel and apologize to Mr. Melville!"

Katherine just bowed and said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Melville, it was not intentional."

Alex ignored her, his cold and stern face revealing no emotion, yet it sent shivers down one's spine.

The other three men at the tea table sipped their coffee quietly, each lost in thought.

The atmosphere was so stifling that Kenny was also at a loss. Mr. Melville was someone they absolutely couldn't afford to offend. He couldn't let things continue like this.

So he furrowed his brow and signaled to his daughter Sherry.

Sherry immediately understood Kenny's meaning, thought for a moment, and then disdainfully waved at Katherine, ordering, "Alright, Mr. Melville won't bother with a country bumpkin like you. You're so clumsy, don't stand here, go away and stay out of sight so that Mr. Melville won't be bothered by your presence."

Of course, Sherry wasn't trying to protect Katherine. To be honest, she wished Katherine would offend Mr. Melville and get a harsh scolding. But because Katherine was her assistant, her actions would directly affect her as the employer, and she couldn't wash her hands of it cleanly.

If Mr. Melville really pursued the matter, Sherry and Katherine would also be implicated.

So, it was better to avoid making waves.

Additionally, she found Katherine standing there too conspicuous. That little wretch was dressed so tackily, ridiculously, and dowdily, yet unexpectedly, she still managed to steal the spotlight and overshadowed her.

Upon hearing Sherry's instruction to move away, Katherine nodded readily and walked away. Being away from those people was exactly what Katherine wanted.

The layout of the VIP coffee shop was spacious, with only Alex and a few waiters responsible for serving the VIPs inside.

Katherine saw a handmade Italian sofa in the distance, and there was no one around it, making it a good spot.. She walked over and sat on the sofa, quietly looking down at her phone to pass the time.

While playing Tetris, she suddenly felt a slender and elegant hand handing her a glass of orange juice. Katherine hesitated, looked up, and saw Jonathan's devilishly handsome face smiling at her.

"Katherine, long time no see," he said briskly.

Katherine instinctively glanced towards Alex, who was leisurely sipping coffee while facing the other direction and was not paying attention to her.

Meanwhile, the director, Kenny, and Sherry were still talking enthusiastically and flatteringly, taking turns and playing off each other. It was as if Katherine couldn't hear exactly what they were saying over there, just as they couldn't hear what she was saying over here.

Katherine retracted her gaze and lightly nodded at Jonathan but didn't reach out to take the glass of orange juice, answering, "Thank you, I don't drink."

Jonathan smiled, not embarrassed, elegantly placed the orange juice on the coffee table in front of her and then sat down beside her.

Katherine noticed Jonathan sitting down, glanced at him sideways, furrowed her brows slightly, and asked, "Do you have something to say to me?"

Jonathan smiled and said, "Nothing. I'm just not interested in film investments. I came over for some peace and quiet."

"Oh, please go ahead," Katherine replied. She lowered her head to continue playing her Tetris game as if no one else was around.

Jonathan fell silent. Although he had experienced Katherine's dismissive attitude before, being treated coldly like this again made him somewhat uncomfortable.

With Jonathan's qualifications, he had never been snubbed by a woman from childhood to adulthood.

Suddenly being ignored once brought a different kind of freshness.

Jonathan narrowed his devilishly handsome eyes, gazing at Katherine with interest and thoughtfulness, and then said, "Katherine, you and Alex don't seem like a normal couple. Am I mistaken?"

Katherine's fingers paused while playing the game; she looked up at him and then replied, "What do you think the standard for a normal couple is?"

The mirth in Jonathan's eyes deepened, with a hint of probing, claimed, "I think, at the very least, it shouldn't be like the two of you, so distant and lacking any intimacy."

Katherine smirked and retorted, "This is our private amusement.; a single man like you wouldn't understand."

"...Is that so?" Jonathan's smile stiffened slightly, though his inherent composure and elegance remained intact. He couldn't help but be taken aback by the girl in front of him.

Katherine's sharp tongue was truly formidable, leaving one speechless.

Suddenly, Katherine thought of something. She raised her chin and pointed towards Kenny, asking, "By the way, do you know that person? Is he very capable?"

Jonathan looked over and nodded slightly. He answered, "Kenny, a well-known director in Janetrick. He is aloof. He only agrees to shoot big-budget productions worth over a billion. However, he does have some talent; his movies are very popular."

Katherine then asked, "And what about Mr. Reid's matters? Do you know anything about that?"

"Not that clear. I've only heard that his family lives abroad," he then answered.

"Alright, thanks for the information," Katherine said.

After asking, Katherine lowered her head to continue playing her game.

Knowing a bit about Sherry's godfather was enough; Katherine could let Frank investigate the rest. With Sherry's meager capabilities, being able to connect with a well-known director like Kenny, who had high demands for his work, was definitely not a coincidence.

For fame and fortune, who knows what shady deals Lillian and Sherry had  made again this time.
