Chapter 299 Meeting My Biological Father

Katherine followed the sound of Sunny's voice and glanced over. Alex had just stepped out of the car, looking sharp in a dark suit with his hair slicked back perfectly. His chiseled features exuded a mature and imposing aura.

She knewshe would encounter him today, but she didn't anticipate it to be so soon.

Sunny hopped out of the car, all excited. "Alex, you're early too!"

Alex gave a cool nod, his eyes briefly flicking over to Katherine as she got out of the car.

Katherine didn't meet his gaze; she kept her focus on the Ayers family estate.

Sunny chirped, "Alex, Scarlett's already here. She's probably waiting for you! Come on, let's go!"

The Ayers estate was buzzing with activity. Guests were already gathered around, handing Mr. Ayers gifts and wishing him a happy birthday.

Sunny handed over his gift. "Happy birthday, Grandpa! This is for you!"

Mr. Ayers looked at the antique walnuts. With a stern yet kind expression, he said, "You're still in school. Why are you giving gifts?"

Sunny insisted, "Grandpa, I'm not a kid anymore. I'm eighteen now, an adult!"

Mr. Ayers frowned. "You're still in high school. Stop pretending to be grown up!"

Everyone knew about Sunny's struggles with college admissions, which made him feel embarrassed. He pouted, unsure of what to say.

Just then, Leander stepped forward with a rectangular gift box. "Mr. Ayers, this is a token of appreciation from Mr. Melville. Wishing you health and longevity."

Mr. Ayers smiled and nodded, gesturing to his elderly attendant to accept the gift. "Mr. Melville is too kind."

Mr. Ayers looked at Alex with admiration, like an elder appreciating the younger generation.

He asked, "Alex, how's your grandfather doing? Has he recovered well after the surgery?"

Alex nodded. "Thank you for asking. He's recovering well. When he's back, I'll arrange for him to visit you."

Mr. Ayers smiled. "Good. That restless old man must be tired of lying in bed! When he's back, we'll play some golf and get some exercise!"

Alex responded politely and chatted with Mr. Ayers for a bit.

"Alex, you're here!"

Scarlett's voice rang out like a silver bell.

She emerged from the crowd in a stunning gown adorned with sparkling diamonds, looking beautiful and sweet.

She approached Alex with admiration shining in her eyes. "I thought you'd be busy with work and come later!"

"Not much work today," Alex replied calmly.

Scarlett smiled sweetly and then turned to Mr. Ayers on the sofa, speaking softly, "Mr. Ayers, I prepared a special birthday gift for you. I'm sure you'll like it!"

Mr. Ayers ignored her and continued talking to his old attendant, not even acknowledging her.

Scarlett felt a bit awkward but kept a polite smile.

In the Mitchell family, she was the center of attention, but in the Ayers family, she had no status, and no one took her seriously.

In fact, the Ayers family elders weren't her biological grandparents.

The Ayers family was her father's ex-wife's family, and she was the daughter of her father's second wife, with no blood relation to the Ayers family.

Thus, it was understandable that the Ayers family treated her with indifference. However, they treated her brother Sunny, who also had no blood relation to them, very well, almost like their own grandson.

They always ignored her, and she couldn't figure out why they treated her so differently!

She had spent years mimicking Laura's habits and preferences, even putting a red beauty mark on her forehead just like Laura's.

She did all this to replace Laura in the family's hearts, hoping they'd transfer their feelings for Laura to her.

For instance, Bernard treated her like his own sister, always doting on her.

But no one in the Ayers family showed her any affection, despite her resemblance to Laura.

Scarlett was frustrated but hadn't given up. She was still trying to win over the Ayers family elders.

The Ayers family held a significant position among the elite and had a long-standing relationship with the Melville family. Winning their favor would give her valuable connections, supporting her future marriage into the Melville family.

That's why she worked so hard to make the Ayers elders see her as their long-lost granddaughter or at least an honorary one. Unfortunately, she never succeeded.

"Father-in-law."

A deep voice suddenly called out.

Everyone turned to see a refined middle-aged man in a gray suit walking over.

Mr. Ayers' kind expression instantly soured. "What are you doing here?"

The man, humble and respectful, said, "It's your birthday, so I brought a fifty-year-old ginseng to help with your health."

Mr. Ayers replied grumpily, "Take it away! We doesn't need your stuff!"

The man didn't get angry, just sighed and handed the gift box with the ginseng to Mr. Ayers' attendant. "Add a little to the soup every day, but not too much, or it might cause heatiness."

The old attendant nodded and accepted it.

After delivering the gift, the man said respectfully, "Father-in-law, I won't disturb your celebration. I'll visit another time."

Mr. Ayers waved dismissively. "Hurry up and leave! Don't come here unless necessary; you just annoy me!"

The man, seemingly used to it, calmly turned to leave.

Sunny and Scarlett walked over to him.

"Dad!" Sunny called out.

"Dad, are you leaving?" Scarlett asked.

Edwin Mitchell nodded to his children. "You two stay and keep your grandpa company. Sunny, don't cause trouble. Scarlett, wear more clothes so you don't catch a cold."

Sunny replied, "I know, Dad. I won't cause trouble!"

Scarlett nodded. "Okay, Dad, I'll put on a coat later."

"Good," he said.

Katherine, standing nearby, observed the scene.

That middle-aged man was Edwin Mitchell, the head of the Mitchell family and her biological father.

Seeing her father for the first time, Katherine felt a mix of emotions, a sarcastic smile playing on her lips.

The man, in his forties, looked well-dressed and fit, without a beer belly. He was tall and straight, with deep, well-defined features, though there were some wrinkles at the corners of his eyes.
