Chapter 158 Katherine, Is This Really You?
Katherine remained calm and didn't believe Bernard's words. She hadn't done anything, so how could there be footage of it? Was it a ghost?
"Where's the video? Let me see it," she said calmly.
Bernard raised his chin, signaling the secretary to turn on the TV in the hospital room. Then, he operated his phone to cast the video onto the TV screen for everyone to watch.
The video showed a female blogger standing by the railing at the bund, holding a selfie stick for a live stream. The angle happened to capture the street scene behind her, and Katherine was in the frame.
Katherine was sitting alone on a bench at the bund, drinking a Coke, her head slightly tilted up as she looked at the sky. Her expression was unclear, but sitting there alone made her seem a bit sad.
Watching herself on TV looking so pitiful, Katherine frowned awkwardly. "Isn't that just me sitting alone?"
Bernard looked at her. "So, Ms. Galatea, you admit that the person sitting on the bench in the right corner of the frame is you?"
Katherine replied frankly, "Yes, it's me. Where's Ethan that you mentioned?"
"Right away," Bernard said confidently, fast-forwarding the video on his phone. After a moment, he let it play at normal speed.
In the video, a guy handing out flyers walked over and sat next to Katherine to rest. He was wearing a striped shirt, glasses, and was about 5'7", slightly chubby.
After sitting for a while, the man handed a flyer to Katherine, introducing a new BBQ restaurant that was offering discounts during its opening period.
Katherine listened absentmindedly, took the flyer, and glanced at it. The man then suggested adding him on social media and registering through his link to become a member, which would get her an extra plate of premium beef at the restaurant.
Seeing the man working so late and promoting the restaurant so earnestly, Katherine thought he might get a commission for signing up members. Life was challenging for everyone, so she agreed to register, scanned his social media QR code, and followed his instructions to become a member of the BBQ restaurant.
She thought it wouldn't hurt to register and planned to invite Ambrosia and Frank to try the BBQ sometime.
This entire process was unintentionally captured by the female blogger's live stream! But because the filming distance was far and the wind by the river was noisy, and the blogger was busy asking her top supporter for gifts in a squeaky voice, the conversation between Katherine and the flyer guy couldn't be heard!
Because the conversation couldn't be heard, and they were seen sitting together talking, with Katherine scanning the man's QR code.
This left a lot of room for suspicion!
As the video played, a police officer sternly said, "Yes! That man talking to Katherine is Ethan, who attempted to assault Scarlett last night!"
The officer then turned to Katherine and asked sternly, "Katherine, do you have anything to say now?"
Katherine was stunned, her lips slightly moving.
Impressive!
The person trying to frame her had thought this far ahead!
Bernard was indeed a formidable character. The series of questions he asked earlier seemed innocuous at first, but none of them were pointless. His goal was to establish her motive for the crime, suggesting that she acted out of jealousy and hatred, and then he presented the evidence to solidify his case!
At this moment, Scarlett, seeing the bad guy who almost assaulted her on the TV screen, threw herself into her brother Bernard's arms, trembling and crying in a soft, heart-wrenching voice. "Bernard, it's him... it's him who tore my clothes, he wanted to," she sobbed.
Thinking about how his precious Scarlett, whom he had cherished since she was little, was almost harmed, Bernard's eyes filled with a murderous rage. He gently held the frightened Scarlett, comforting her. "Don't be afraid, it's okay now! I'm here, no one will dare to hurt you again!"
Scarlett, not just physically shaken but also emotionally hurt, asked, "Bernard, why did this happen? Why would Katherine want to hurt me? I genuinely wanted to be her friend."
Bernard gently stroked his sister's hair, speaking softly, "Silly girl, don't give your heart to just anyone. Some people simply don't deserve it."
Bernard appeared gentle and polite, but in reality, he was cold and distant. His politeness towards others was more out of good manners and self-discipline, often masking his true feelings.
But with Scarlett, Bernard's tenderness was genuine. He patiently comforted her. "Alright, don't cry. No one can hurt you with me here."
"Bernard." Scarlett's emotions gradually stabilized under her brother's soothing words.
Meanwhile, Sunny had been silent since entering the room, as Bernard's presence left no room for him to speak. But seeing the irrefutable evidence pointing to Katherine as the mastermind behind his sister's attack, Sunny lost control of his emotions. He was both angry and disappointed as he glared at Katherine, pointing a finger at her.
Sunny scolded, "Katherine, how could you do something so vicious? I thought you were a good person and always defended you! How could you harm my sister like that? You're a girl too. How could you..."
Katherine looked up at the furious Sunny, her gaze calm and cold, not even bothering to refute him.
Sophie stepped forward, pulling Sunny back to calm him down. She sighed and said, "Sunny, did you forget? I told you before that Katherine is good at pretending. She's not a good person! But you wouldn't listen. You insisted on believing her! Well, at least now you see the truth!"
Turning to Alex, who was still sitting silently, Sophie felt a sense of satisfaction but feigned helplessness, shaking her head. "Alex, you too have been deceived by Katherine's facade of innocence! Luckily, Bernard uncovered the truth for Scarlett this time. Otherwise, who knows how long you would have been kept in the dark!"
Scarlett also got up from Bernard's arms, turning to look at the man sitting in the chair with a heavy expression, saying nothing.
She wiped her tears, walked over, and gently comforted him. "Alex, don't be angry. Katherine probably just made a mistake."
