Chapter 628 Apologizing on Her Behalf

After that, Katherine spun around and headed into her room, slamming the door behind her.

Teresa's face twisted with worry, realizing Katherine was done trying to patch things up with Alex.

"If you don't wanna leave, crash in my room tonight. I don't mind," Frank's teasing voice drifted over to Teresa.

Teresa snapped back to reality, remembering their earlier convo. She forced a smile and said, "Thanks for the offer, Mr. Perez, but I'll just crash on the couch."

'Even if Katherine's giving me the cold shoulder, I can't bail. Gotta keep an eye on her for Alex. What if she pulls a disappearing act again?' Teresa thought.

Frank grinned like he'd already forgotten she turned him down. "You sure you're not leaving? Then you can whip up dinner tonight. I wanna taste your cooking."

Teresa blushed, confused. "Even if I'm sticking around, I'm still a guest. How can you ask a guest to cook?"

Frank's mischievous smile widened, and he shrugged. "I don't wanna either. But I can't cook, and Katherine's pregnant. Takeout's not healthy. For Katherine's sake, could you do the honors?"

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sophia's forehead injury was patched up, and the nurse wrapped it in gauze, reminding her to keep it dry. She nodded and walked out of the emergency room.

Outside, Alex was standing a bit away, deep in a serious phone call. Seemed like work stuff.

Sophia waited quietly until Alex hung up before walking over. "Alex, I'm good. If you got work, you should head to the office. Bet there's a ton to handle."

Alex glanced at the gauze on her forehead, pocketed his phone, and said calmly, "It's fine. Let's go. I'll take you back to the hotel."

Sophia had been crashing at a hotel for the past six months.

Without giving her a chance to argue, Alex turned and walked ahead.

Sophia stared at his back for a moment before catching up, her tone worried. "Alex, shouldn't you check on Ms. Galatea first? She seemed really upset with you."

Mentioning Katherine made Alex's already stern face even more severe, and he stayed silent.

Sophia pressed on, "I'm really sorry you and Ms. Galatea fought right after reuniting because of me. How about you take me to see her now? I can explain there's nothing between us."

Alex kept walking. "You think she still cares about your explanation?"

Sophia was taken aback. "Alex, are you saying Ms. Galatea doesn't care about you anymore? But she's carrying your baby. How could she not care about the father of her child?"

Mentioning the baby made Alex's eyes darken. Katherine not only didn't care about him but also wished he had nothing to do with the baby.

Alex opened the car door and got in, with Sophia quickly hopping into the passenger seat. She turned to look at his angry and gloomy face and cautiously asked, "If Ms. Galatea really doesn't care about you anymore, what are you gonna do, Alex?"

Alex's jaw clenched, and he didn't say a word, just fired up the car and took off.

Noticing Alex's mood, Sophia figured the only thing keeping him and Katherine connected was the baby.

So, Sophia sighed, looking worried. "Alex, if it's really not working out, maybe don't force it. Honestly, after seeing Ms. Galatea today, she seems kinda high-strung. Not saying she's bad, just maybe not the right fit for you. Being together might just wear you both out."

After a sharp turn, Alex finally spoke, his voice low. "She's young and has a bit of a temper. I apologize for her actions. If today's incident leaves a scar, I'll take responsibility. I'll get a plastic surgeon and cover all your losses."

Sophia was taken aback by Alex's words and then said, "Alex, we've been friends for years; no need for that. And I didn't even take this little injury seriously."

Alex nodded slightly, eyes on the road, not saying more.Sophia tentatively asked, "Alex, if you think Ms. Galatea doesn't care about you, why are you apologizing for her?"

In all the years Sophia had known Alex, she'd never seen him apologize. Today she saw it, but he was doing it for Katherine, which floored her.

Without much thought, Alex sighed. "No matter how much of a mess Katherine is, she's still my wife. If I don't handle her mess, who will?"

Sophia was stunned, feeling both envious and a bit jealous.

'Even now, Alex still sees himself as Katherine's husband,' Sophia thought before forcing a smile, "Ms. Galatea is really lucky to have someone like you who puts up with so much! Alex, you're so good to her. She shouldn't have left you!"

Alex sneered, "She's heartless."

Alex dropped Sophia off at the hotel and turned down her invite to come up, driving off immediately.

In the afternoon, Teresa rummaged through the fridge for ingredients and started prepping dinner. She decided to stick around today and wanted to cook something tasty for pregnant Katherine.

Frank followed her, grinning as he peeked into the kitchen. "Need any help?"

Teresa didn't really want Frank there; his presence made her nervous. But she knew getting him to leave was impossible. He wouldn't just listen to her. So she decided to ignore him as much as possible. "No, just stay out of my way!"

Frank, not exactly the gentle type, knew it was rude to let Teresa cook alone. So he rolled up his sleeves and headed to the sink. "I can't do much else, but I can wash the veggies."

Teresa was a bit surprised and then nodded, handing over the veggie-washing task to Frank while she prepped other stuff.

Actually, Teresa wasn't a great cook at first either. She'd taken cooking classes back then to impress Frank.
