Chapter 882 Vile Rumors

Katherine's retort left Winford and Electra momentarily speechless, exchanging glances with each other.

Winford, still unwilling to let things go, clenched his jaw and said, "I don't care what your reasons are! Charles beat Elisha up like this, he has to apologize and take responsibility! If you don't make Charles apologize to Elisha, not only will he be kicked out of this preschool, but I'll make sure you can't stay in Janetrick. Believe it or not?"

Electra, heartbroken, gently touched Elisha's bruised and swollen face, "Yes! Exactly! Elisha has never been treated like this before! Besides, Elisha was just being a bit mischievous, playing around with a girl classmate. What right does Charles have to interfere?"

Eris, caught in the middle, felt very troubled. On one hand, she thought Winford and Electra were being unreasonable, but on the other hand, she didn't dare to offend them.

Winford and Electra were well-known wealthy people in Janetrick, while Katherine, a single mother raising her children, certainly couldn't compete with them.

Thinking of this, Eris first tried to calm Winford and Electra down, then pulled Katherine aside and whispered, "Ms. Galatea, I know Charles is a kind and upright child, and I know today's incident wasn't his fault. But Elisha's parents are not to be trifled with. It's not easy for you to raise three children alone. Sometimes it's better to avoid trouble. Just pretend to give in and apologize to them."

Katherine squinted at Eris, who seemed to lack any backbone. Although she knew Eris meant well, she still felt disdain.

"My son did nothing wrong, so why should he apologize? Ms. Thompson, I send my children here to learn, not to learn how to swallow their pride and give in! Now, without them forcing me, I'm already considering transferring my kids to another preschool."

Eris was left speechless, her face turning awkward.

Seeing Katherine's refusal to back down, Winford became even more arrogant, "Don't think that transferring your kids will resolve this! If Charles doesn't apologize to Elisha, I'll make sure you can't stay in Janetrick or even the whole country. By then, it'll be too late for you to come crying to me!"

Electra chimed in again, "Did you hear that? My husband is giving you a chance! Make Charles apologize to Elisha, and we might forgive you! Otherwise, don't expect any peace!"

Katherine looked at Winford and Electra's arrogant faces and chuckled, "Alright! Then I'll wait for the day you make me unable to stay! For now, I think I can still manage, so I'll be leaving. Goodbye!"

With that, she turned and left to find Charles, ignoring Winford and Electra's darkening faces.

Eris was left alone to face the arrogant couple, trying to appease them and clarify the preschool's stance.

Leaving the surveillance room, Katherine saw through the hallway window that Charles was hiding in the slide house in the preschool yard, wiping his tears.

She squinted at him for a moment, then walked away without going downstairs to find Charles. Instead, she went upstairs to find George and Edith.

Katherine was going to take them both away too!

Seeing Katherine come to pick them up so early, Edith and George were both surprised and happy, but also a bit puzzled.

Edith asked, "Mommy, why are you picking us up so early today? You usually come in the afternoon!"

George added, "Yeah, Mommy! Is there something special today? Is it a holiday, and you're taking us out to play?"

Katherine tapped George's head, "All you think about is playing!"

Then, she bent down to pick up Edith and asked, "Edith, tell Mommy, have you heard anything about Charles recently at preschool?"

Unlike George, who was careless, Edith was very observant and noticed many unusual details.

Hearing Katherine's question, Edith was curious, "Mommy, how did you know there have been rumors about Charles at preschool?"

Katherine had guessed right. When she watched the surveillance footage earlier, she heard Elisha say that Charles was adopted and that everyone at the preschool knew about it. She knew things weren't simple.

George and Edith still didn't know that Charles had just been in a fight.

Katherine said, "Mommy just heard about it. Edith, tell Mommy everything you've heard recently, and don't hide any details."

Edith instinctively glanced at George, seeming to hesitate about whether to speak.

Seeing Edith's hesitation, Katherine frowned, "What? Are you hiding things from Mommy now?"

Edith quickly shook her head, "No, no, Mommy, I'm just afraid you'll be upset if you know."

Katherine said seriously, "Mommy will be upset if you don't tell the truth."

Edith blinked and then said honestly, "Alright, Mommy, I'll tell you everything! Recently, the kids at preschool have been saying that Charles isn't your biological child, that he's an unwanted child! And that his biological mother is a prostitute with a disease, so everyone should stay away from him."

Katherine's expression darkened. Who had come to the preschool to spread such vile rumors to the children? No wonder Charles had been acting so off lately!

Charles indeed wasn't her biological child, but she had always treated him as her own, with no pretense!

She loved Charles just as much as she loved Edith and George, without any difference!

Charles was adopted by Alex from abroad; he was a mixed-race child with some exotic features, so it was impossible to lie to Charles that he was her biological child.

Charles was a particularly smart child. He could see that he was different from Edith and George, and he had endured a lot of hardship when he was young, so he remembered things early and was very sensitive.

Hearing such malicious rumors at preschool, how could he not be affected?

She didn't even know who Charles's biological mother was or what she did for a living, so how could others know?

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Katherine asked Edith and George sternly, "Did you two comfort Charles?"

Edith and George exchanged a glance and shook their heads.

Edith explained, "Mommy, it's not that we didn't want to comfort Charles, but he wouldn't talk to us today! When we spoke to him this morning, he acted like he didn't hear us! Mommy, I think Charles doesn't want to stay with us anymore!"
