Chapter 706 Mr. Melville Is Fine
Following Nora's orders, a few folks stepped up to carry Alex away for treatment.
Seeing this, Sophia broke free from Brent's men and chased after them.
Nora, feeling uneasy, followed too.
If Alex died, it would be a disaster. The Melville family was not to be messed with!
Seeing both Nora and Sophia so worried about Alex, Brent felt a bit annoyed.
He glanced down and saw Linda still clutching her favorite teddy bear, standing there.
Brent squatted down and opened his arms. "Linda, come here! Let's go get some ice cream!"
Linda, however, took a step back, glaring unhappily at the fierce-looking Brent. She pouted and muttered, "You're mean!"
Brent was taken aback and couldn't help but feel a bit hurt. "Linda, why would you say that? That really makes me sad. I was just standing up for Sophia earlier. Alex was mean to her first, and I won't let anyone hurt you or Sophia!"
Linda still glared at him. "Daddy is too scary! Linda doesn't like Daddy!"
Brent sighed. "Fine, you're still too young to understand even if I explain it to you. When you grow up, you'll get it! Come on, while your mom isn't here, let's go get your favorite vanilla ice cream. Maybe then you'll see that I'm not so bad after all."
Linda still resisted Brent's approach, angrily saying, "Other kids' dads are gentle and nice, but you are fierce and mean. My classmates are all afraid of me and don't play with me!"
Brent's expression darkened. "Who? Who dares not to play with you? Tell me, and I'll go talk to those bad kids' parents tomorrow and make them educate their children properly!"
Linda stubbornly turned around, hugging her teddy bear. "I don't want you to come to my kindergarten. That way, I'll never make any friends! Big meanie!"
After saying that, Linda ran off to find her mom.
'Am I really that fierce? I thought I was only tough on outsiders,' Brent thought.
Katherine came back after making formula for Charles and found that the call on the phone left on the table had been disconnected.
She frowned.
Charles could now eat regular meals, but he still needed to drink milk before bed. Just now, because it was inconvenient to hold the phone while making the formula, she had stepped out for a moment, and the call with Alex had been disconnected when she returned.
"Charles, did you touch this phone just now?" Katherine asked Charles.
Charles, who was seriously playing with his toy car, looked up and shook his head. "No, I didn't."
After testing the temperature of the formula on her wrist, Katherine handed the bottle to Charles.
As Charles drank the milk, Katherine picked up the phone and called Alex back.
The phone rang for a long time without anyone answering, making Katherine's heart tighten and her frown deepen. Didn't he agree not to hang up?
Just as she was getting anxious and was about to ask Bernard for help to contact Alex, the call was suddenly answered!
Katherine's heart relaxed a bit. "Alex, what are you doing? Why did you hang up just now?"
"Mrs. Melville, it's me." The voice on the other end was not Alex's but Leander's.
Katherine frowned and asked warily, "Leander, why are you answering the phone? Where's Alex?"
Meanwhile, Leander was in the guest room of the Coleman mansion, anxiously watching a team of doctors treat Alex's injuries and put his legs in casts.
Alex's forehead was covered in sweat from the pain.
Having followed Alex for years, Leander had never seen him beaten like this. Alex could endure it, but Leander couldn't stand it!
But if he confronted Brent now, all the beatings Alex just took would be for nothing, and all efforts would be wasted!
With Alex's temperament, he wouldn't tolerate Brent acting so arrogantly in front of him. Alex's compromise and endurance were solely to mutually cancel the marriage with Sophia and return to give Katherine a proper explanation.
Leander recalled what Alex said when he handed over his coat. Taking a deep breath, he forced a relaxed tone. "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville is too tired and fell asleep."
Asleep?
Katherine felt something was off. It should be morning in Markovia, broad daylight.
But Alex had just flown over and hadn't adjusted to the time difference, having been on a plane for over twenty hours, so he must be quite tired.
"Are you at Sophia's house now?" Katherine asked.
Leander, feeling guilty but trying not to show it, lied, "…Not yet. Mr. Melville is resting in the car. Mrs. Melville, do you want to speak to him? Should I wake him up to take the call?"
Katherine thought for a moment and said, "No, don't wake him. Let him sleep a bit longer! When he wakes up, have him call me back."
Leander responded, "Okay, Mrs. Melville! Don't worry. Mr. Melville is fine!"
"Good, as long as he's fine."
Hearing Leander say that, Katherine felt a bit relieved, hung up the phone, and turned to see Charles had fallen asleep with the bottle in his arms.
She put down the phone, took a deep breath to calm herself, and reminded herself not to overthink and to trust Alex.
He promised he would come back, and he definitely will!
On the other side, Leander hung up the phone and let out a long sigh of relief.
He had been so nervous just now, afraid that Katherine would sense something was wrong.
Katherine was close to giving birth and couldn't handle any more stress. If she knew Alex was injured, she would definitely be worried.
Fortunately, he didn't let anything slip!
But Katherine would probably call again, and he wasn't sure what he would do then.
Leander put away Alex's phone and looked up to see that the doctors had finished treating Alex's injuries. They approached to brief him on the patient's condition.
The doctors indicated that Alex was seriously injured; Brent had really gone too far in the fight.
However, although Alex would be in pain all over, fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries, and he could recover fully after a few months of rest.
Leander nodded to show he understood and signaled the doctors to leave.
As the doctors left, Sophia and Nora, who had been waiting at the door, came in.
They had stepped out to give the male patient privacy while Alex was being undressed and treated.
Now that the doctors had finished, it meant the injuries had been treated, so Sophia and Nora came in.
