Chapter 967 What Was in the Breakfast
"Food poisoning?" Bernard turned his head and looked at Titty beside him.
Titty had always been responsible for taking care of the two elderly people, including their three meals a day.
Receiving Bernard's scrutinizing gaze, Titty quickly stood up and waved her hands, "Mr. Mitchell, I really don't know! I know they are not in good health, so I've always been very careful with their diet. How... how could they be poisoned?"
Titty was anxious to defend herself, but she had no evidence to prove her innocence and could only keep waving her hands in distress.
"Diet?" Christina suddenly thought of herself. She had prepared breakfast in the morning. Could Hellen and Vincent's current condition be because of the breakfast she made?
Seeing Titty's anxious look, Christina hesitated for a moment before standing up and weakly saying, "I prepared breakfast this morning, and I also made dinner last night. It has nothing to do with Titty."
Bernard raised an eyebrow and looked at her intently, remaining silent for a while.
In fact, he trusted Titty. After all, Titty had been taking care of Hellen for many years and had a deep bond with the two elderly people. She wouldn't do anything to harm them.
But Christina, he couldn't trust.
After entrusting the care of the two elderly people to Titty, Bernard took Christina out of the ward and into the hallway.
Jessie was also in the hallway, having come to help take care of the two elderly people and waiting outside.
Christina timidly followed behind Bernard. After they walked a bit further, she spoke up, "Mr. Mitchell, I know there's someone who usually takes care of the meals at your house. But since I just arrived and we agreed that I would try to be a considerate granddaughter-in-law, I thought I could make a meal for the two elderly people to enjoy."
Bernard turned around and looked at her coldly, "So, what did you put in the breakfast?"
From what Titty said, the two elderly people had no issues after dinner last night, so it must be the breakfast this morning!
Christina frowned and thought seriously for a long time, "I didn't put anything unusual. Just some very common ingredients. Mr. Mitchell, I know you must be suspicious of me now, but I really didn't put anything inappropriate."
Bernard scrutinized her, seeing that Christina didn't seem to be lying and had no motive to harm the two elderly people.
"I... I think I saw something."
Hearing the voice, the two of them turned their heads and saw Jessie timidly following them.
Bernard looked at Jessie, "What did you see?"
Jessie glanced at Christina fearfully, looking very scared, "When Ms. Russell was making breakfast today, I was right beside her. I saw her add a white powder to the porridge. I asked her what it was, and she said it was a secret recipe, so I didn't ask more."
Christina was stunned, looking at Jessie who was lying. She didn't know how to react for a moment, but one thing she was sure of!
Jessie had disliked her from the beginning and was genuinely hostile towards her!
"Jessie, what nonsense are you talking about? When did I add white powder to the porridge? I have no grudge against you, why are you slandering me?"
Christina reacted and couldn't help but walk towards her to question her.
As Christina approached, Jessie suddenly started to dodge, taking a few steps back and accidentally falling to the ground, "Ms. Russell, I didn't mean to say it, but Mrs. Mitchell and Mr. Vincent Mitchell are in this condition, I can only tell Mr. Bernard Mitchell all the suspicious clues, I can't hide it."
Seeing Jessie fall to the ground, Christina frowned, "You're making things up; what are you up to?"
Jessie's eyes were very evasive, making a look as if she was about to cry, and moved closer to Bernard.
Bernard's gaze at Christina became sharp, "Tell me, why did you want to harm my grandparents?"
Hearing Bernard ask her like this, Christina knew he had chosen to believe Jessie.
It made sense, after all, Jessie had been working in their house for many years, while she was just a woman Bernard had recently met and didn't know well.
It was obvious who Bernard would choose to believe.
If it were in the past, Christina might have really endured this and not explained it!
But from the moment she decided to leave the Russell family, she decided she wouldn't let herself suffer unnecessary grievances anymore. No one in this world was worth her suffering!
"Jessie, remember what you're saying now! You say I drugged the two elderly people, but I have a way to prove my innocence!"
Christina turned to Bernard, "I brought my own pot from home to make breakfast today. Before using it, I personally washed all the utensils carefully. After that, no one else touched the utensils I used!"
Christina was suddenly very grateful for her habit of washing the pot before cooking, otherwise, she really wouldn't know how to prove her innocence at this moment, "During that time, I went to the bathroom because I had a stomachache."
"What are you trying to say?" Bernard looked at her coldly.
Christina turned to look at Jessie on the ground, "Since the pot was brought by me and the meal was made entirely by me alone, there shouldn't be anyone else's fingerprints on the pot and lid. If there are, then I'm not the only suspect. Anyone who touched the pot could be the one who poisoned it!"
Christina turned to Bernard with determination, "I'm not a smart person, but I'm not a fool either! Even if I wanted to harm someone, I wouldn't put poison in something I made myself. Only an idiot would do that! Unless someone is deliberately framing me!"
Bernard squinted his eyes, thinking Christina made sense, and took out his phone to call Billy, "Come over here now."
At this moment, Bernard calling Billy back meant he had listened to Christina and was preparing to have someone check if there were any fingerprints on the pot other than Christina's.
Jessie stood up from the ground, lowered her head, looking particularly unnatural, "Mr. Bernard Mitchell, I just remembered, Titty asked me to go back and get some clean clothes for Mrs. Mitchell and Mr. Vincent Mitchell. I need to go get them quickly."
Bernard responded indifferently, and Jessie turned to walk towards the elevator.
Jessie left the hospital directly, took a cab, and headed back to the Mitchell family.
Christina saw through Jessie's little trick and immediately pulled Bernard to follow, "Mr. Mitchell, I didn't put anything in the breakfast, but I know my words alone aren't enough. This must have something to do with Jessie. She's going back now to destroy the evidence! If you don't believe me, we can follow her secretly and see."
Bernard looked at Christina with suspicion. He didn't think Jessie was as suspicious as she said. After all, Jessie had been working in his house for many years and had no reason to harm her employer's family.
