Chapter 968 Proving Innocence

However, Bernard still brought Christina to follow Jessie.

The taxi stopped at the Mitchell Villa entrance. Jessie hurriedly paid the fare and ran desperately into the yard.

After graduating from high school, Jessie's family couldn't afford to send her to college. Helpless, she came out to find a job and finally found a job as a maid for the Mitchell family. The work was simple, and the salary was high.

More importantly, she met Bernard here.

She liked Bernard!

Originally, she never thought about pursuing a man as unattainable as Bernard, nor did she dare to dream about it. She was content just to admire him from afar for the rest of her life.

But then Christina appeared. If a woman with such an ordinary background as Christina could become Bernard's wife, why couldn't she?

Unexpectedly, Christina turned out to be quite cunning, even thinking of using fingerprint verification to prove her innocence!

She needed to hurry home and clean up the evidence.

By then, Christina would have no way to prove she hadn't poisoned the two elderly people!

Back home, Jessie didn't even bother to change her shoes and went straight to the kitchen!

However, just as she picked up a cloth to wipe it off, Christina walked in, pushed her aside, and grabbed the pot. "Jessie, what are you doing?"

Jessie was stunned. Without thinking too much, she stood up and tried to grab the pot from Christina's hand.

Christina held the pot and stepped back. Bernard suddenly appeared, pulled her behind him, and asked Jessie condescendingly, "What are you trying to do?"

Jessie didn't expect Bernard to come back too. She was so scared that she fell to the ground and couldn't get up.

Billy arrived at this moment and was a bit taken aback by the scene, "Mr. Mitchell, I apologize for being late. Do you have any orders?"

"Not late, you came just in time!" Christina placed the pot on the counter and looked down at Jessie, "However, I think there's no need for testing now. Someone is already showing a guilty conscience."

Jessie endured the pain and crawled up to kneel in front of them, "Mr. Mitchell, I just came home to get something. I don't know why Ms. Russell pushed me."

"Jessie, do you think we're fools? How coincidental that I mentioned there was evidence on the pot, and you rushed back to the kitchen to find it?" Christina squatted down in front of her, pursing her lips, "I'm very particular about cleanliness when I cook. How could the two elderly people get poisoned?"

Vincent and Hellen were old, and Bernard, considering their health, always ensured the best ingredients at home, and there had never been any problems.

Christina said, "For a moment, I even doubted myself, wondering if my things weren't clean enough, causing the elderly's health issues. But hearing your accusations made me completely dismiss my self-doubt!"

Christina frowned and looked at Jessie with determination, "You accused me of something I didn't do. Only the real poisoner would do that!

When I made breakfast, I didn't use any other pot, just the old one I always use. You panicked when you heard me say there was evidence on the pot!

Moreover, you were the only one watching the pot when I went to the bathroom for five minutes. If I'm not mistaken, that's when you added the poison, right?"

Jessie shook her head guiltily, "I didn't... I didn't."

"You didn't? If you didn't, why did you rush back to clean the pot? Doesn't that show your guilty conscience?" Christina questioned.

By now, Bernard understood and instructed Billy, "Take the leftover breakfast from this morning for testing. Identify the toxic components and inform the doctors so they can treat them accordingly!"

Billy nodded, "Yes, Mr. Mitchell! What about Jessie?"

Bernard glanced at Jessie, "Send her to the police station!"

"Yes!"

Hearing that Bernard wanted to send her to the police station, Jessie panicked, "Mr. Mitchell, no! I'm innocent, Ms. Russell is framing me."

Bernard sneered, "Why would she frame you? If you weren't guilty, why would you rush back to clean the pot?"

Jessie, with tears in her eyes, couldn't explain, "I..."

Bernard lost his patience, "Billy, take her away!"

"Yes, Mr. Mitchell!" Billy stepped forward, grabbed Jessie, and prepared to take her out.

Realizing she couldn't fool them anymore, Jessie gritted her teeth and glared at Christina unwillingly.

"Christina, you're really lucky! Mr. Mitchell almost believed me, but you managed to trap me like this. You're truly cunning!"

As she spoke, her emotions suddenly became agitated, and tears streamed down her face, "You're a bad woman, a bad woman! You don't deserve Mr. Mitchell!"

Jessie gave up pretending and lunged at Christina, tearing at her.

Before Christina could react, a large hand pulled her away, avoiding Jessie's grasp.

Realizing what happened, Christina turned to see Bernard, her heart skipping a beat.

"Thank you."

Christina softly thanked him and turned to look at Jessie.

Jessie refused to leave with Billy, crying incessantly at Bernard, "Mr. Mitchell, I've worked here for so many years and never made any mistakes! Can you give me another chance, don't send me to the police station, I won't dare again!"

Christina turned to Bernard, genuinely worried that he might let Jessie go out of sentiment for her years of service.

"Billy, handle it well, and don't let her appear in the house again!"

Bernard didn't say a word to Jessie, nor did he look at her, and directly turned and walked out of the kitchen.

"Yes!" Billy responded and then dragged Jessie out!

Jessie was truly scared and kept begging, "Billy, I know I was wrong, please let me go, don't send me to the police station."

Billy directly pulled Jessie up from the ground, "Ms. Russell, I'll take her away now."

Christina nodded.

Soon, the wail of police sirens filled the air.

Christina looked out the window, watching Jessie being taken into the police car by the officers. No matter how much she struggled and resisted, it was of no use.

This was the Mitchell family's way of handling things, fair and just.

Christina turned around and found Bernard standing behind her, "What, do you feel sorry for her?"

"No." Christina shook her head, firmly refusing, "I don't feel sorry for her at all. She did something wrong and should bear the consequences."

Bernard squinted, "Christina, you're smarter than I thought!"

Christina pouted, "If I hadn't tricked her, I wouldn't have been able to prove my innocence!"
