Chapter 131 Ms. Jones, Please Pay the Bill
"What are you two girls whispering about?" Hilton smiled and looked at them.
Only then did Sophie let go of Katherine, turning to Hilton with a gentle smile. "Hilton, I was thanking Katherine for healing my foot, but I was so excited that I couldn't find the words, so I just held onto her!"
Sophie then pretended to look apologetically at Katherine and asked insincerely, "Katherine, did I scare you?"
"No," she answered.
Katherine's expression was indifferent as she raised her hand to pat the wrinkles on her shoulder where Sophie had hugged her as if a fly had just landed there.
Hilton also looked at Katherine, smiling. "I didn't expect my sister-in-law to know orthopedic correction at such a young age. Who taught you?"
When Sophie heard Hilton naturally call Katherine his sister-in-law and even praise her a bit, she felt very displeased and secretly gritted her teeth.
Before Katherine could answer, Sophie quickly chimed in, "Hilton, I didn't expect Katherine to know so much at such a young age. She must have learned it from growing up in the countryside! Kids from the countryside become independent early and are very skilled in life, unlike us spoiled brats who were pampered from a young age!"
These words sounded like Sophie was praising Katherine and humbling herself as a spoiled brat. Still, the underlying meaning was that Sophie was mocking Katherine for coming from the countryside with no family background.
With just a few simple words, Sophie drew an insurmountable line between Katherine and their group, implying that Katherine was not one of them at all!
Katherine naturally understood, but she didn't care and slightly curled her lips.
Hilton's mischievous eyes darkened, and his tone turned a bit colder. "Sophie, since you're already better, I don't need to have the hospital send a car over."
As he spoke, Hilton took his phone out of his jacket pocket and tossed it to Sophie. "The first number in the call log is the doctor I contacted for you. Now you can call and explain to the doctor yourself."
Sophie took Hilton's phone, awkwardly hesitated for a moment, then forced a smile. "Alright, I should call back and explain properly. We can't trouble the medical staff for nothing!"
After giving the phone to Sophie, Hilton's gaze didn't linger on her.
He turned his head to look at Katherine, his already smiling eyes curving even more, filled with admiration and curiosity.
Hilton didn't show any discrimination or mockery towards Katherine because of what Sophie had just said.
Hilton naturally walked to Katherine's side, lightly placing his elbow on her shoulder and gently shaking his lean wrist.
"Katherine, honestly, I sprained this wrist a few years ago, and it has never fully healed. Since I'm a close friend of your husband, could you help me out too?" he asked.
This shoulder-tapping gesture was very intimate but didn't feel ambiguous at all, like a mischievous older brother teasing his little sister.
Katherine glanced sideways at Hilton, looked down at the arm he had placed on her shoulder, then raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "Are you sure you want me to help you?"
Seeing the fierce look in Katherine's sharp eyes, Hilton quickly and wisely removed his arm, smiling. "If you genuinely want to help, I'd be more than happy! But if you're trying to take the opportunity to give me a hard time, then I'd rather pass!"
Katherine curled her lips. "Mr. Allen, you're very smart and self-aware!"
Hilton clicked his tongue. "If you keep being so cheeky, I'll have Alex take you to the bed and...spank you!"
When Katherine heard the words "take you to the bed," she thought this slick-talking guy was about to say something inappropriate. Her face, being thin-skinned, immediately flushed with a touch of shame.
But then, he said, "spank you"?!
Katherine frowned in disdain and tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Boring!"
After Sophie finished her call to the doctor, she turned around to see Hilton and Katherine standing together, chatting and laughing, looking harmonious and familiar, like old friends.
This made Sophie feel even more repulsed by Katherine, her eyes filled with sharp hostility.
Although Hilton usually loved to joke around, he wasn't like that with everyone. For most people he didn't care about, he was always disdainful, sharp-tongued, and concise.
But Hilton was joking around with her like that, which meant he genuinely considered her a sister-in-law.
How could this be?
If Hilton saw Katherine as a sister-in-law, where would that leave Scarlett?
Sophie was contemplating how to make Katherine completely fall into her trap and make everyone dislike her.
At that moment, there was a gentle knock on the suite door.
The knocking drew everyone's attention.
At the door stood a female ranch staff member wearing a uniform with the words "Zephyr Meadows."
The staff member smiled politely, bowed to the distinguished guests, and then walked straight to Sophie.
She handed the bill to Sophie and said respectfully, "Ms. Jones, this is the total bill for your group's expenses at the ranch. Please settle it."
Sophie was taken aback and frowned in displeasure. "Who told you to come to me for the bill?"
The staff member was a bit confused and explained, "Someone just informed our front desk that Ms. Jones wanted to settle the bill now, so we came over. If it's inconvenient for you now, we can wait until you check out."
Did someone notify the front desk? And specifically, asked for her to pay?
Sophie found it odd and took the bill to look at it, her brow furrowing. "Fifty thousand dollars? Why so much? It's never been this expensive when we came before!"
The staff member looked innocent and said, "Ms. Jones, this fifty thousand dollars includes not only the current expenses but also some pre-booked expenses."
"Pre-booked expenses? What pre-booked expenses?" she questioned.
"Someone booked the entire Zephyr Meadows for three days next month, ordered three roasted lambs and many other dishes, and said you would settle the bill today," the staff explained.
"What? Booked the entire place for three days?" Sophie looked incredulous. "Sorry, I have no idea about this! Whoever made the reservation should pay for it. This is not my expense."
The staff member was a bit bewildered. "But that person assured us you would pay, so we have already ordered the three best lambs from local farmers overnight, and many other expensive ingredients and drinks have been pre-ordered. If you cancel now, we would be at a loss."
Sophie asked in disgust, "Who exactly made the reservation? Who's spending lavishly under my name?"
Katherine spoke up, "I made the reservation."
