Chapter 904 Does Your Husband Not Care About You?
The sound of an ambulance siren came from outside.
Nora hurriedly called her daughter, "Alright, Linda, let's take Claire to the hospital first. We'll deal with everything else later!"
Linda nodded and instructed, "Keep a close watch on them! I'll deal with them later!"
The men in black responded, "Yes, Ms. Coleman!"
Then, Nora and Linda followed the ambulance to the hospital.
Because the ambulance was so loud, Joshua, who was at the neighbor's house, heard the sound coming from his own home and immediately rushed back.
As soon as he entered the house, he saw many fierce-looking men in black inside, and his wife and daughter were being held, bruised and battered.
Joshua exclaimed in horror, "Who are you people? Why did you break into my house and beat up my wife and daughter like this?"
The leader of the men in black had gone to the hospital with Nora and Linda, and the remaining men were well-trained and wouldn't speak without orders.
They just firmly held Lillian and her daughter without saying a word.
Seeing Joshua return, Lillian cried out for help, "Joshua, please save us! These people are thugs!"
Sherry also cried out in panic, "Daddy, save us, I'm so scared."
Joshua naturally wanted to save his wife and daughter, but seeing the fierce and strong men in black, he knew he was no match for them. He decided to leave quickly to get help.
However, when he turned to leave, he found that the door had already been closed by two men in black, making it clear that he couldn't leave either!
Joshua panicked and became angry, "What... what do you want?"
One of the men in black said, "Your wife and daughter hurt Mrs. Coleman's friend. Now, no one in your family can leave until Mrs. Coleman and Ms. Coleman give the order."
Joshua was bewildered, "What are you talking about? Who is Mrs. Coleman? I haven't seen anyone come to my house!"
The man in black said, "Ask your wife and daughter yourself!"
Since Joshua couldn't leave, he turned to Lillian and Sherry, "What is going on? Why did he say you hurt Mrs. Coleman's friend? What did you two do?"
Lillian and Sherry looked guilty and avoided eye contact.
Meanwhile, Claire was quickly taken to the nearest hospital, where her wounds were stitched up and treated.
Hearing from the doctor that Claire was not in any life-threatening danger, Nora and Linda finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Nora sat by the bedside, holding Claire's hand, "Claire, you scared me! You lost so much blood."
Claire, though weak, was awake, "Don't worry, I'm fine! Luckily, your husband had people secretly protecting you and Linda, and they rescued us in time. It's also fortunate that it wasn't you or Linda who got hurt, or your husband would have held me accountable!"
Nora wiped her tears, "This is not the time to say such things!"
Linda felt relieved only when she saw her most admired teacher still had the spirit to joke with Nora.
Suddenly, the door to the hospital room was rudely pushed open, and a figure with a cold aura rushed in!
"Nora, Linda, let me see! Are you two alright?"
Brent, having been notified by his subordinates, rushed over immediately, his heart trembling with fear that something might have happened to them.
Brent carefully checked Nora and Linda from head to toe, not daring to overlook any detail.
Seeing him like this, Nora's heart softened, and she didn't push him away, "We're fine, only Claire got hurt!"
Lying weakly on the hospital bed, Claire smiled, "See, what did I say! Luckily, you two weren't hurt, or your husband wouldn't have let me off!"
Nora blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed.
After checking Nora and Linda, Brent turned his displeased gaze to Claire, "It's you again! If you want to get into trouble, fine, but why drag them along?"
Claire, not angry, sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect that family to be so unreasonable. I won't ask Nora and Linda to accompany me again."
Brent said, "You better not!"
Nora, unhappy with Brent's attitude towards her friend, pushed him back, "Enough! Claire is injured and weak right now, don't speak to her so harshly!"
Brent looked at Nora, "I've told you before to stay away from her, but you didn't listen! If she were a decent woman, would she have run away from her ex-husband's house? She's been a bad influence on you, making you leave home for no reason!"
His words showed no regard for Claire's feelings.
And he indeed had no reason to care about Nora's friend.
Nora, knowing what Claire had been through over the years, felt empathetic and couldn't stand Brent speaking like that.
"Enough! We don't need you here. Linda and I are fine, you can leave!"
Brent frowned, "I don't think you should play this leaving home game with me. Come on, let's go home!"
Saying this, he grabbed Nora's wrist to take her away.
Nora forcefully shook him off, "Claire is still here and needs care. Don't be so heartless!"
Brent said, "Heartless? If I hadn't sent people to follow you, you two would have been killed because of her!"
Nora got angry, "Brent! Claire needs rest. Let's talk outside!"
She then dragged Brent's arm and walked out.
Seeing Brent and Nora arguing as they left, Linda felt both relieved and helpless. She walked over to Claire and explained, "Ms. Ayers, don't be mad! My dad just gets too anxious and doesn't consider others' feelings."
Claire wasn't angry, smiling with pursed lips and shaking her head, "I'm not mad, it's okay. I used to oppose your mom being with your dad, but now seeing how much he cares for her, I'm relieved. Your dad may favor his eldest daughter, but he genuinely cares for you and your mom."
Linda moved closer to Claire, curiously asking, "Didn't your ex-husband care about you like that?"
This question brought a bitter smile to Claire's face.
She didn't even want to mention that person!
Realizing her mistake, Linda quickly waved her hand, "Ms. Ayers, I shouldn't have asked that now, I'm sorry."
She was just puzzled how such a beautiful, gentle, and talented woman like Claire could be unappreciated by any man.
