Chapter 740 Looking for Dad
The next day, Bernard went to the Melville Mansion early in the morning to pick up Katherine and bring her to the Davenport Auction House.
Edith insisted on following Katherine, and Katherine couldn't refuse her daughter's pleading, so she decided to bring Charles and Julian along as well.
As soon as they entered the auction hall, the manager respectfully greeted them, "Mr. Mitchell, welcome. Your private box has been reserved. Let me take you there!"
Bernard, holding Edith in his arms, nodded slightly and followed the manager inside.
Katherine led Charles and Julian closely behind.
Their private box was located on the second floor, providing both privacy and a clear view of the bustling auction hall below.
Before entering the box, Bernard glanced downstairs. "There are quite a few people here for this auction. It looks like there will be some good items up for bid."
The auction house manager nodded and smiled. "Yes! Most of them are here for the Silvershade Vale property. Many people want to bid on it!"
Bernard walked into the box, sat down with Edith in his arms, and instructed the manager, "No coffee. Bring some drinks suitable for children."
The manager bowed, "Yes, Mr. Mitchell. Don't worry, I'll have snacks and drinks prepared for the three kids right away."
After saying that, he turned and left to make arrangements.
Bernard looked at Edith in his arms and said softly, "Edith, what do you want to eat today? Tell me, and after your mom and I are done, we'll take you and your brothers out to eat!"
His voice was extremely gentle, showing his deep affection for Edith.
Edith blinked her big eyes adorably and said sweetly, "Ask Mommy, Uncle Bernard! Whatever Mommy wants to eat, I want to eat too!"
Bernard playfully tapped Edith's little nose. "You're such a thoughtful little girl! You even consider what your mommy likes?"
Edith, with a serious expression, said, "Because Mommy is the best, and I always want to make her happy!"
Bernard was truly amused by Edith!
Katherine first placed Charles on a chair next to her, then sat down next to Bernard with George, who still wasn't feeling well, in her arms. She squinted her eyes, looking outside cautiously. "Those people are all eyeing that property. The competition will be fierce today."
Bernard looked up at Katherine. "Don't worry. I'm here with you today, and I'll make sure you get what you want."
Katherine was determined to get that property and didn't show much reaction. However, Julian in her arms seemed to see something surprising, his eyes widening and pupils dilating.
Bernard noticed Julian's unusual behavior and followed his gaze. Through the open door of their box, he saw a man in a wheelchair being pushed into a box diagonally opposite them.
The man's back looked strangely familiar, but since he couldn't get a clear look before the door closed, Bernard didn't say anything for now.
He turned back to Julian and asked, "George, what did you see? Why do you look like that?"
Julian snapped out of it, feeling a bit guilty. "I... I need to pee."
Bernard patiently said, "Do you want me to take you to the bathroom?"
Julian immediately shook his head. "I can go by myself! I just saw the WC sign!"
Saying that, Julian wriggled out of Katherine's arms and jumped to the ground, ready to run out by himself.
Katherine reached out and grabbed him, her tone more serious. "Did you forget what Mommy told you yesterday? Are you going to run off alone again?"
Julian turned around, pouting. "I just need to go to the bathroom and don't want to delay your business! Mommy, let Charles go with me. I know where the WC is!"
Charles was happy to accompany George and eagerly jumped off the chair. "Mommy, I'll take George to the bathroom! I promise we won't run off. We'll come back right after we're done!"
Even with the sensible Charles accompanying them, Katherine couldn't let two little kids go out alone.
So, she said to Billy, who was standing by, "I can't go into the men's bathroom. Billy, please keep an eye on them for me."
Billy nodded respectfully without hesitation. "Yes, Ms. Galatea!"
Billy took Charles and Julian to the bathroom. Shortly after they left, the auction house manager brought in several female attendants with a pile of imported snacks and dairy drinks, all very respectfully.
Bernard casually asked, "Who else is on the second floor today?"
Hearing Bernard's question, the auction house manager's smile froze, and he looked very troubled. "I'm sorry, Mr. Mitchell, but that information is confidential. I'm not at liberty to disclose our clients' details. I hope you understand."
Bernard didn't press the issue, waving his hand to signal the manager to have the items placed down and then leave without disturbing them further.
The female attendants looked at him with longing eyes, their gazes filled with admiration and desire.
It was quite annoying.
The manager, being very perceptive, quickly led his staff out and thoughtfully closed the door to the box.
Julian walked into the bathroom, with Charles following him. Billy, who had brought them there, stood at the bathroom door, watching them to make sure they didn't run off.
Julian was a bit troubled by this.
He had come out to find his dad, Trevor, whom he had just seen entering the box opposite. He hadn't expected Dad to be here too!
But with Charles and Billy watching him, he couldn't find an opportunity to sneak over to Trevor!
He hadn't gone home last night, so Trevor must be very worried, right?
What should he do? How could he sneak away without getting caught?
Charles noticed Julian just standing there and not going to the bathroom. He frowned. "George, what's wrong? Didn't you say it was urgent?"
Julian snapped out of it, stared at Charles for a moment, and then had an idea!
He said, "Charles, can you come into the stall with me? I'm a bit scared to go in alone."
Charles found it a bit strange. George had never been this timid before! Ever since he got scolded by Katherine for running off yesterday, George had been acting a bit odd.
But as an older brother, he felt a sense of responsibility and agreed!
"Okay, I'll go in with you! Don't be scared, George!" Charles took Julian's hand and led him into a stall.
Not long after the two little guys went in, a loud scream came from inside.
Billy, who had been standing guard at the door, rushed over as soon as he heard the scream!
"What happened?"
