Chapter 8 Why Are You Everywhere?

Amy hung up the phone in a hurry. Katherine didn't even have a chance to ask what was going on before she heard the busy signal.

She had no clothes to wear. She opened the closet and saw that it was filled with Alexander's clothes.

Katherine randomly picked a man's white T-shirt and put it on, then hurriedly left the house.

The man's T-shirt was big enough for her. The hem of the shirt reached down to her knees, resembling a large casual dress for her.

It was at Apricot Group.

Katherine was at the entrance, inputting her fingerprint for registration, when Amy came out in a hurry and agitatedly looked for her.

"Katherine, you're finally here! Mr. Scott wants you to go to his office right away, so be prepared."

"Mr. Scott is looking for me?"

Katherine rarely saw Amy so nervous. She asked, "What's going on exactly?"

Amy glanced around and, making sure no one was nearby, leaned in close to Katherine and whispered, "Today, all the computers in the company got infected with a virus, causing a complete system shutdown. All the company's important internal files are lost."

Katherine frowned. "How is that my concern? If the computers are broken, Mr. Scott should call the IT technicians to fix them."

Amy worriedly said, "The technicians are already working on it! The key point is that Ruth Morris reported to Mr. Scott that it was because you downloaded games on the company's computers that all the computers got infected with the virus! And today, Mr. Green also invited a very important boss to inspect the company's new project. The presentation slides that our department worked so hard on can't be accessed now. Mr. Scott is both anxious and angry, and he will definitely vent his anger on you!"

Ruth is the employee who secured a position at Apricot Group through her family connections.

She, like Katherine, is still in her probation period.

Apricot Group is one of the top 500 companies in the world, and every year, many outstanding graduates try their best to get into the company.

Katherine was able to intern here because she had a recommendation letter from the president of Janetrick University, thanks to her excellent academic performance. On the other hand, Ruth got into the company because she is a relative of the company's manager, Gavin Scott!

There is only one position available for permanent employment within the company this year, and it will be between Katherine and Ruth.

Katherine probably understands what's going on.

Before Katherine knocked on Gavin's office door, she overheard Ruth inside, trying to calm Gavin down.

"Uncle Gavin, please don't be angry. The computers will definitely be fixed! It's all because Katherine was playing games during work hours."

Gavin angrily exclaimed, "Where is that damn Katherine? Why hasn't she arrived yet?"

Katherine knocked on the door and pushed it open.

"Mr. Scott, are you looking for me?"

Upon seeing her, Gavin immediately scolded, "Katherine, you finally decided to show up? Today is a workday. You're late for work again. You were also absent without reason yesterday. Is this your work attitude?"

Katherine walked in and explained politely, "I'm sorry, Mr. Scott. I got married yesterday, and I had some trouble this morning, which is why I'm late."

Gavin found her excuse ridiculous. "Married? Even if that's true, don't you know you should ask for leave? Do you think the company is your home? Can you just not show up, come late, or play games whenever you want?"

Katherine replied courteously, "It's my first time getting married, so I didn't have much experience. I will make sure to ask for leave in advance next time."

Gavin had nothing more to say.

Ruth couldn't bear it anymore. "Katherine, you have no shame. You're just absent from work. How dare you use marriage as an excuse? You should come up with a better excuse!"

At that moment, the office door swung open.

Apricot Group's president, Henry Green, and a noble and elegant man stood at the entrance and overheard Katherine's response to Gavin.

Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly.

Gavin was about to continue scolding Katherine when he noticed Alexander and Henry at the door. He quickly stood up, putting on a pleasing smile, and went over to greet them. "Mr. Green, when did you and Mr. Melville arrive? Please come in."

Ruth took the opportunity to glance over and was instantly captivated by the handsome and noble man by Henry's side.

Katherine, on the other hand, was not very interested. She casually turned her head to take a look and was stunned.

It was Alexander!

Why was he everywhere?

Henry asked seriously, "Gavin, what were you arguing about just now? How did the entire company's system collapse? What's going on?"

Gavin was sweating profusely. He pointed at Katherine and said, "Mr. Green, the new intern, was playing games during work hours, which led to a virus infecting the company's system. The IT department is currently working on emergency repairs."

Henry exclaimed, "What? Then why do you still have such an intern in the company? Are you planning to hire her as a permanent employee?"

Gavin hurriedly shook his head. "No, Mr. Green, I will fire her immediately!"

Ruth smirked triumphantly.

Alexander glanced at Katherine indifferently and then averted his gaze.

As if he had never known her, Alexander said coldly, "Mr. Green, it seems that today is not a good time for me to be here. In that case, I will come another day."

"Mr. Melville, I apologize for you witnessing this."

Henry felt extremely embarrassed. He had put in a lot of effort to bring Alexander here. If he left today, it would be even harder to invite him back.

At that moment, Katherine saw Amy anxiously looking around at the office entrance.

She suddenly remembered that this new project was the first one led by Amy's team. If this project failed, it would be difficult for her to be in charge of important projects in the future.

During her internship, Amy always took care of her.

"Mr. Melville!" Katherine suddenly spoke up.

Alexander, who had already turned around, paused.

Katherine walked towards him. "Mr. Melville, I know your time is precious. But since you're already here, we can't waste this opportunity. If you happen to miss out on a great project, that would be a real waste!"

Alexander said coldly, "It seems like you don't have any presentation for me now."

Katherine assured, "Mr. Melville, why don't you stay and have a cup of coffee? By the time you finish your coffee, I will have the presentation ready for the new project to show you!"

Henry and Gavin looked at Katherine in astonishment.

Ruth rolled her eyes in disdain. The IT technicians had been busy repairing the computers, and they still hadn't fixed them. How could Katherine claim that she could fix them?

She must be boasting!

Was she trying to make up for her mistake?

There was a two-second silence, and a faint smile appeared on Alexander's calm face.

"You are quite daring. Mr. Green, since I'm already here and a little thirsty, I'll have a cup of coffee before I leave."

Henry snapped back to reality and immediately ordered, "What are you waiting for? Go prepare a coffee for Mr. Melville!"

"Alright!"

Ruth seized the opportunity to interact with Alexander and happily went to make the coffee.

Katherine returned to her own seat and inserted a USB flash drive into the computer.

Amy curiously leaned over and asked, "Katherine, what are you doing? Do you really know how to fix computers?"

Katherine's expression was focused. She moved the mouse while replying, "Installing antivirus software."

Amy sighed in disappointment, "Katherine, that's useless! The technicians said the company was purposefully attacked by hackers, and antivirus software won't help at all."

Katherine glanced up slightly and gave Amy a faint smile. "Let's give it a try. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky?"
