Chapter 634 Genuinely Want to Do it
Looking around, Teresa didn't spot Frank, just her phone charging on the nightstand. She grabbed it and saw that the first unread message was from Frank. [Crashed on the couch last night. Just carried you to bed, didn't do anything else. Don't freak out!]
Teresa's heart pounded, and her cheeks went red. Scrolling down, she saw a bunch of unread messages from Anthony.
She felt a bit embarrassed. She'd been so caught up yesterday that she forgot to hit Anthony back.
Opening the chat with Anthony, she saw messages asking where she was, what she was up to, and if she had hit the sack. The last message was sent this morning. [Teresa, why aren't you answering? Hit me back when you see this!]
Feeling guilty, Teresa typed: [Sorry, I was only thinking about Katherine and Alex yesterday, so I forgot to reply to you.]
Anthony replied right away: [It's cool! I was just worried about you. As long as you're good. Teresa, where you at now?]
Teresa replied honestly: [Still at Katherine's place. I'm fine, don't stress.]
Anthony: [I'll come scoop you for lunch. Just us today!]
For some reason, Teresa hesitated before replying: [Okay! No need to pick me up, I'll come to you.]
Anthony: [Cool, I'll be waiting.]
After that, Teresa got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
Coming out of Frank's room, she saw Katherine sitting alone at the kitchen bar, munching on breakfast and busy with her laptop.
She walked over. "Katherine, what are you up to?"
Katherine raised a finger to her lips and pointed to the laptop, signaling her to hush.
Teresa quickly shut her mouth and cautiously peeked at Katherine's laptop screen, only to see her own messy appearance on the screen. She quickly stepped back.
Katherine was on a video call with several people, seemingly in a video conference. Not wanting to interrupt, Teresa quietly grabbed her coat and bag and slipped out. She planned to go home to change clothes, meet Anthony, and then bring lunch back for Katherine.
Katherine noticed Teresa leaving but didn't turn around. After wrapping up the video conference, she closed her laptop. Just then, Ambrosia's call came in. She took a sip of milk and answered the phone.
Ambrosia reported, "Katherine, the Melville Group snagged the land south of Janetrick and plans to turn it into a big shopping center. They want us to handle the project. What do you think?"
Katherine sipped her warm milk and narrowed her eyes. "It's a solid project. If the terms are right, we can do it. Just watch out for any traps in their contract."
Ambrosia replied, "Got it, I'll take the legal team to negotiate with them."
After hanging up, Katherine tiredly rubbed her temples. Even though she had just woken up, she felt wiped out.
The Melville Group's move to team up with the Crescent Group made it hard for her not to think Alex was behind it. But if they turned down the deal, the Melville Group would likely offer another project. It was better to face it head-on and take it one step at a time.
The doorbell rang. Probably Teresa coming back for something she forgot. Without much thought, Katherine put down her milk cup and went to open the door.
As soon as the door swung open, there stood Jonathan.
Katherine was a bit surprised but kept her cool. "What are you doing here?"
Jonathan was holding a thermos. "Just checking on you! Had breakfast yet? I brought some oatmeal."
"Thanks," Katherine said flatly and invited him in.
It was Jonathan's first time at Katherine's place. He looked around, appreciating the decor. "Where's the kitchen? I'll grab a bowl and serve you some oatmeal."
"Just sit down, I'll get it myself." Katherine didn't show him the kitchen but headed there herself.
Jonathan didn't sit down but followed her into the kitchen with the thermos.
The bowls were under the sink, and Katherine, with her big belly, found it hard to bend down.
Jonathan stepped in to help her up. "I'll get it."
Katherine didn't argue and stepped aside.
Jonathan took a bowl from the cabinet, opened the thermos, and served her a bowl of oatmeal, placing it on the bar. "Here, have some while it's hot!"
Katherine nodded. Since getting pregnant, she didn't like hot milk and sandwiches much, preferring hot oatmeal.
When she stayed at the villa Jonathan arranged for her, he had the staff make oatmeal for her every night.
Today's breakfast, prepared by Ambrosia, was hot milk and sandwiches, which she found unappetizing. Jonathan's oatmeal came just in time.
Watching Katherine quietly have the oatmeal, Jonathan's gaze softened, but then he frowned. "Didn't sleep well last night?"
Katherine nodded. "Yeah, a bit of insomnia."
Jonathan advised her earnestly, "Katherine, you're close to your due date. You can't stay up late like this. How can I not worry about you?"
Katherine knew she needed to take care of herself, but her mind was too restless last night for her to sleep.
Jonathan's concern made her a bit uncomfortable. "Mr. Mostow, you don't need to worry about me so much. You should know I'm not someone who gets moved easily, let alone develop feelings over time."
Hearing this, Jonathan sighed first, then smiled. "Katherine, do I seem like someone who cares about gains and losses? Caring for you is something I genuinely want to do, without thinking too much about it."
Katherine lowered her head, having the oatmeal. After a moment of silence, she said, "You've helped me a lot. I'll consider you a good friend. If you ever need help, just tell me. But beyond that, I can't reciprocate those feelings. I hope you understand."
Jonathan leaned closer. "Katherine, do you have to be so heartless?"
Katherine looked up, meeting his eyes. "It's better to be upfront than to let you have false hopes."
Jonathan leaned in a bit more. "Life is long. Are you saying you never plan to date again?"
Katherine felt his proximity was inappropriate and shifted her body backward. "I really don't have any plans to date!"
