Chapter 970 I Won't Go!
Christina immediately pulled the blanket over herself, "Why did you come in without knocking?"
Bernard cleared his throat, "This is my room."
Christina then realized she was in Bernard's room, "Sorry, I didn't realize! I thought that with Grandpa and Grandma back, if we continue to sleep in separate rooms, they might get suspicious."
Feeling guilty, Christina quickly explained.
Bernard closed the door, leaned against it, and squinted at her, "You have thought this through very well. I'll knock before entering the room from now on."
"I'll lock the door when I change clothes from now on." Christina put down the blanket, tidied her clothes, stood up, and looked at the big bed with some difficulty, "How about I sleep on the sofa tonight, and you sleep on the bed?"
Hearing her words, Bernard's lips curled into a faint smile, "Why should we sleep separately? Didn't you just swear in front of Grandma that you would work hard to have children for the Mitchell family?"
Christina's face turned as red as an apple at the mention of the earlier incident. "I just said that to reassure Grandpa and Grandma, to go along with their wishes. Besides, we're not really going to have children!"
Seeing her blushing face, her skin tinged with pink, made her look particularly cute.
Bernard squinted his eyes, suddenly feeling the urge to tease Christina.
He walked forward slowly, bent down, and leaned close to her, "Who said we won't have children? Are you doubting my ability? Or is it that you can't have children?"
Bernard's face was so close that Christina's heartbeat quickened.
She couldn't help but think of that night they met and Bernard's so-called 'ability.'
Christina shook her head vigorously, pushed him away, and took several deep breaths to calm herself down, "Mr. Mitchell, please have some respect! We are just in a contractual relationship!"
Her reaction made Bernard feel bored. He chuckled lightly and turned to leave.
Christina stared at his departing back, frowning.
Christina locked the door before she felt at ease to change clothes. Just as she finished changing, the phone rang.
She picked up the phone, and Jared's name was displayed on the screen.
This was one of the names she least wanted to see right now, but Jared was her father, so she had to answer the call.
Christina went to the balcony to answer the phone, "Hello, Dad, what do you need?"
"Christina, you are really ungrateful!" As soon as the call connected, Jared's first words were to scold her.
Christina's heart sank. As expected, when the Russell family contacted her, it was never for anything good!
"Dad, if you have something to say, just say it. If you're just going to scold me, I'll hang up!"
"Don't you dare hang up! Christina, do you know that because of you, your sister offended a big boss in the film industry and lost a lot of resources? Being an actress is her dream, and you ruined it!"
If she didn't know the whole story, Christina might have really thought she had ruined Cheryl!
The truth was that Cheryl had set her up, and because she didn't succeed, she suffered the consequences. But no one cared about her grievances; no one spoke up for her, and everyone felt sorry for Cheryl.
"Dad, I don't know anything about the entertainment industry, and I don't care. As for who Cheryl offended, that's her own business and has nothing to do with me!"
Jared didn't expect her to be so rebellious now and angrily shouted, "Christina, you've really grown bold, haven't you? Daring to disregard me like this!"
If you didn't want to help Cheryl go on a date with Hudson in the first place, you could have said so. Why did you agree to Cheryl and then break the promise? Tomorrow we are going to visit Mr. Graves, and you will come with us to explain what happened that day for Cheryl!"
Christina felt a deep sense of powerlessness. No matter how clearly she explained, her parents always unconditionally believed Cheryl.
From Jared's words, she understood that Cheryl must have made up stories at home again, clearing her own name.
Christina took a deep breath and slowly closed her eyes.
Since that was the case, let's end this!
When she opened her eyes again, Christina's gaze was firm, "Dad, Cheryl's issues should be resolved by herself. I never agreed to help her go on a date with Hudson, and I won't explain anything for her."
After saying that, Christina directly hung up the phone.
This was the first time she had directly defied Jared's orders. Probably because she no longer had to worry about being kicked out, she felt more confident.
After hanging up Jared's call, Christina ignored the Russell family's matters and continued to organize her things.
When she was staying in the guest room, Christina knew that once the two elders were discharged, she would have to move back, so she didn't move many things over. Now, moving back didn't require much organizing.
She hadn't finished organizing her things when Renee's call came in.
Looking at the phone, Christina felt a headache coming on.
"Hello, Mom, if you're also trying to force me to meet Hudson, you don't need to say anything. I won't go!" Christina directly stated her position.
Renee wanted to scold her as soon as she opened her mouth, but then she remembered the purpose of her call and softened her tone, "Christina, I know I've wronged you sometimes and neglected you."
Her words caught Christina off guard, and her tone softened a bit, "Mom, what do you mean by that?"
"I know I've always taken care of Cheryl more and sometimes wronged you! But Christina, I had no choice."
This was the first time Renee admitted her favoritism towards Cheryl, and Christina didn't know how to respond.
She had kept this grievance in her heart for a long time, never mentioning it to anyone.
Christina remained silent for a long time and took a deep breath. "Mom, what exactly do you want to say?"
"Jared married me because I was obedient and could take good care of Cheryl. If I don't take good care of her, he could divorce me at any time. Christina, Jared hasn't spoken to me for three or four days because of this incident. I'm really scared that if this continues, he might really divorce me."
Renee spoke with a sobbing tone.
Actually, Christina knew that Renee hadn't had an easy time in the Russell family all these years either.
