Chapter 369 Apologize to Katherine!
Alex stepped out of the bedroom, checked his watch, and told the butler, Anton, "Don't wake her yet. If she's not up by 10, then call her."
Anton nodded. "Got it, Mr. Melville. I'll take care of Mrs. Melville."
Alex started down the stairs but paused. "No snacks and no cold water for her."
Anton was a bit taken aback by Alex's attention to detail. "Understood!"
Alex hadn't even left yet and already missed her. He'd never felt this way about anyone before. The last time he came back from a trip, Katherine was gone, leaving him deeply hurt.
He took one last look at the bedroom door before heading downstairs.
After Alex left, Fiona, who had been eavesdropping, stepped out with a scowl. She'd heard everything. Alex was spoiling Katherine too much! She couldn't understand why he cared so much about Katherine, a girl from the countryside, when there was someone like Scarlett, a daughter of prestigious family, was around.
Fiona had always clashed with Katherine and wanted Alex to marry Scarlett. Now that Alex was gone, it was the perfect time to deal with Katherine.
She stormed towards the bedroom, ready to knock, but Anton stopped her.
"Ms. Melville, Mr. Melville said not to disturb her. Wait until after 10."
Fiona was defiant. "Who does she think she is? I have to wait to see her? She's married now and still sleeping in? Our family doesn't tolerate such laziness!"
She raised her voice, hoping Katherine would hear.
Anton looked worried. "Please, don't. Mr. Melville will be angry, and you'll regret it."
Fiona didn't care. "I don't believe Alex would do anything to me for her! Move aside, Anton!"
She pushed past Anton and banged on the door. "Katherine, I'm coming in!"
Without waiting for a response, Fiona barged in.
Anton was too late to stop her and felt it was inappropriate to follow her into the bedroom. He quickly called some maids to pull Fiona out, but the door was locked.
What was Fiona up to?
Anton hurried to find the spare key.
Inside, Fiona saw Katherine lounging in bed, wrapped in a blanket, playing on her phone.
Seeing Katherine so relaxed made Fiona furious. She remembered being stuck in a detention center for half a month because of Katherine. Was Katherine living comfortably at home then, too?
Fiona was livid!
She put her hands on her hips. "Hey! Katherine, get up and get dressed!"
"Why?" Katherine raised an eyebrow, glanced at Fiona, and went back to her phone.
She was unfazed by Fiona's intrusion. She had heard Fiona's loud conversation with Anton outside the door.
"Why? You know why! As a daughter-in-law of the Melville family, you need to follow our rules. We don't tolerate laziness! Do you think you can lounge around like you did in your poor family?"
Katherine chuckled. "I'm married to Alex, not you. If Alex doesn't mind, why should you?"
Fiona, with an air of superiority, glared. "Why shouldn't I? Do you really think you're Mrs. Melville? Alex hasn't even married you yet! Technically, you're not part of the Melville family, but I am Ms. Melville, and you have to listen to me!"
Katherine smiled and nodded. "Alright, I'm listening. What do you want me to do?"
Fiona crossed her arms. "I want you to get up and work. No more lazing around in our house!"
Katherine asked curiously, "Work? What kind of work?"
Fiona replied, "Cleaning, laundry, cooking. There's plenty to do. Can't you see, you lazy woman?"
Katherine was indifferent. "We have professionals for that. I don't need to do it."
Fiona frowned. "We have maids, but as a daughter-in-law, you should help out. Why else did Alex marry you? Stop talking and get to work. Today, you're mopping all the floors!"
Katherine's phone was pointed at Fiona, and she lazily looked at the screen. "Alex, did you see that? Your family doesn't welcome me. Your sister is worse than a TV villain!"
"Give her the phone."
Hearing Alex's cold voice from Katherine's phone, Fiona's arrogance turned to fear. She realized Katherine had been recording her!
Damn! Katherine was too cunning!
Katherine, still lounging, smiled and beckoned Fiona. "Come on, Alex wants to talk to you."
Fiona's back went sweaty; her face turned pale with anger, but she didn't dare refuse Alex's call.
She walked to the bed, took Katherine's phone, and saw Alex on a video call, still in his car.
"Alex..."
"Pack your things. I'll have someone take you to your mother's."
Alex's face was expressionless, his tone icy. Fiona knew this was serious.
She and Alex were half-siblings, but the Melville family never acknowledged her mother. She was not allowed in the main house and was considered an outsider.
Fiona was only allowed to stay because she was a Melville by blood and a precious daughter. Now, Alex was sending her back to her mother, essentially disowning her.
"Alex, I-I don't want to go!"
"Then apologize to her!"
