Chapter 510 Such a Mind
Katherine replied, "Because you just said outside that you were worried it would be inconvenient to talk when Jackie and Sandra came back. So, I brought you to this room. Didn't you want to chat with me? This room has the best soundproofing, so feel free to say whatever you want!"
"This room has the best soundproofing?" Sophie repeated and couldn't help but overthink when she heard this, feeling that Katherine was really shameless!
However, Katherine didn't think of it that way at all and continued eating her lunch.
Sophie crossed her arms and looked at Katherine with disgust. "Katherine, let me ask you something. Are you pregnant?" she questioned, doubtfully.
Katherine paused slightly while picking up some food, then smiled calmly as she answered, "Yes."
Sophie's brows furrowed in disbelief, then continued to ask, "Does Alex know about your pregnancy? Do the elders of the Melville family know?"
Katherine replied, "Of course, Alex knows. The elders of the Melville family probably don't know yet. We haven't announced it yet because we're afraid the elders will make a big fuss."
Sophie looked at her with an incredulous expression and sneered, "Katherine, how can you be so thick-skinned? I've never seen a woman as shameless as you. You've done something wrong and don't feel guilty at all, even acting so righteously."
Katherine didn't understand what she meant. After chewing and swallowing a piece of meat, she raised an eyebrow, curiously and shot back, "Miss Jones, I've never seen someone as illogical as you!"
Sophie was a bit angry as she retorted, "How am I illogical?"
Katherine said, "You say I'm thick-skinned one moment and shameless the next. So, which is it?"
Sophie was infuriated by her flippant attitude and spoke in a demanding tone, "Katherine, stop playing games! I'm talking to you about something serious!"
Katherine looked at her with a bored expression and continued eating. "What serious matter? I don't get it!" she responded.
Sophie gritted her teeth before pointing out, "Stop pretending! I'm talking about your pregnancy. Isn't that serious?"
Katherine nodded in agreement and stated, "I guess it is serious. I already told you that I am pregnant. As for the so-called wrongdoings you mentioned, I don't know what you're talking about, and I haven't done anything wrong."
Sophie laughed coldly as if she heard a joke then scoffed at Katherine, "You haven't done anything wrong? Then tell me, whose child is in your belly?"
Katherine was taken aback by the question and laughed, saying, "Who else could it be but Alex's?"
Sophie crossed her arms and glared at her with disgust, "Stop pretending. Scarlett told me everything! The child in your belly isn't Alex's. You're just using his trust to claw your way back to the top!" she accused, arrogantly.
Katherine found the situation interesting and was curious about what Scarlett had told Sophie.
So, she put down her fork, took a sip of water, and asked, "Who do you think the child belongs to?"
Sophie was reluctant to say it because the 'truth' Scarlett told her was hard to accept. After a long time, she finally said, "Isn't the child Bernard's?"
Katherine, in a fit of laughter spat out the water she was just about to swallow, truly amused by the absurd allegations.
She sprayed water all over Sophie's face, making her even angrier. Then she screamed, "What are you doing?!"
Katherine wiped her mouth with a tissue and handed another to Sophie, still laughing as she apologized, "Sorry! I just didn't expect Scarlett actually to tell you that."
Sophie took the tissue angrily, wiped her face, then claimed, "Scarlett only tells me the truth. What else would she say?"
Katherine smirked, curious to hear more absurdities. She probed further, "Did she tell you how I got pregnant with Bernard's child?"
Sophie was furious. Bernard was her dream man, the only prince she ever wanted to marry, but he was tainted by the woman she hated most! "Katherine, how dare you ask? Didn't you drug Bernard and take advantage of him? Bernard would never look at a woman like you otherwise!" she exclaimed furiously.
It was indeed a ridiculous story made up by Scarlett. Katherine grinned in sarcasm as she poked fun, "Do you believe everything Scarlett says? Don't you question its authenticity at all?"
Katherine couldn't tell Sophie that Bernard was her blood brother, making such a thing impossible!
Sophie rolled her eyes incredulously and said without a doubt, "Scarlett and I grew up together. We're best friends. Why in the world would she lie to me? Scarlett wouldn't! If I don't believe her, who should I believe? You?"
Katherine smiled gently and replied, "I'm not asking you to believe me. But, Miss Jones, don't you think Scarlett's so-called truth lacks logic?"
Sophie was starting to get confused, and asked impatiently "What's illogical? Katherine, what are you trying to say now?"
Katherine said, "I'm not making excuses. I genuinely think it lacks logic behind it. If I went to such lengths to seduce Bernard and got pregnant with his child, why wouldn't I use this to rise in prominence within the Mitchell family? Why would I come to the Melville family and make Alex the father? Doesn't that seem risky and illogical?"
Sophie frowned and retorted, "Because you realized you couldn't use your pregnancy to blackmail Bernard. I know Bernard's character well. A woman would never succeed in blackmailing him. He hates it the most. Otherwise, why did he send Billy to make you abort the baby recently?
"Katherine, admit it! You found out you couldn't control Bernard with your pregnancy and couldn't rise in prominence within the Mitchell family, so you went to Alex and told him the child was his, making him take responsibility! Alex is different from Bernard. He has a strong sense of responsibility, and you're good at seducing him, so he believed you! But I can tell you, you won't succeed! In the end, neither the Mitchell family nor the Melville family will want you!"
Listening to her, Katherine couldn't help but laugh.
Katherine's laughter made Sophie furious, she couldn't help but ask, "Katherine, what are you laughing at? How can you be so shameless? Anyone else would be ashamed if they were exposed, but you still have the nerve to laugh so loudly!"
Katherine laughed and waved her hand dismissively as she replied, "Sorry, I couldn't help it! I'm just amazed that Scarlett has been able to manipulate you for so many years! No wonder, given your brain!"
