Chapter 482 It's All My Fault
Katherine pouted. "Why'd you leave so fast without waiting for me?"
Alex bent down and touched her forehead. "So it's my fault again?"
Katherine raised her chin. "You think it's mine?"
"Alright, it's all on me!" Alex smiled. "You coming to the company with me?"
Katherine shook her head. "No, I need a ride to the Mitchell family. Can you take me?"
Alex frowned. "Why are you going there alone?"
Every time she went to the Mitchell family, something happened. Alex couldn't let her go alone.
Katherine said seriously, "I need to sort out the stuff online. It's been brewing since yesterday, and it's time to end it."
Alex paused, then got it. "Was it Scarlett?"
Katherine nodded. "Yeah, she's extreme. Since she can't have you, she's trying to ruin me and drag you and the Melville Group down."
Alex frowned deeply. "Let's go, I'll come with you."
Katherine shook her head. "Alex, you need to go to the company and stabilize the stock market. I can handle this."
Alex frowned, a bit reproachful. "You don't need me again?"
Katherine knew he was worried. "It's not that I don't need you, but we need to prioritize. If the stock keeps falling, your grandpa might strangle me!"
Alex knew his grandpa and agreed. He gently touched her hair. "I won't go with you, but I'll have Bernard keep an eye on you."
Mentioning Bernard, Katherine frowned. "No, I don't want to deal with him."
Alex and Bernard's relationship was just okay, but Bernard had a sister complex.
Before, Bernard had a prejudice against Katherine because he didn't know she was his sister.
Now that he knew, with Bernard around, no one would dare bully Katherine.
With Bernard watching her, Alex could go to the company with peace of mind.
Alex coaxed her. "You don't have to deal with him, but he must be there. Only then can I feel okay letting you go alone."
Katherine reluctantly nodded. "Alright, if Bernard wants to stay home today, let him. It doesn't matter!"
"Good girl." Alex affectionately touched her head. "I'll go to the company first, then come pick you up?"
Katherine answered, "Okay."
They got into the car, and he leaned over to fasten her seatbelt, then called Bernard.
At that moment, Bernard was in the car heading to the company, looking at the stock market trends, worried for the Melville Group.
In the past, he wouldn't have cared about the Melville Group, especially because of the family feud.
But now it was different. By a twist of fate, his cherished sister had married into the Melville family, and Alex was now his brother-in-law. He had to set aside those family grudges for Katherine's sake and help if he could.
Even though the online rumors were false, they started because of Katherine. If left unchecked, her life with the Melville family would be tough, and she might not want to come home due to the tension.
As Bernard was thinking about how to help stabilize the Melville Group's stock situation, his phone rang. It was Alex.
He raised an eyebrow, surprised. Normally, Alex never called him. Their only connection was Katherine. Could something have happened to her?
Thinking of this, he immediately answered.
After hearing Alex's words, Bernard's eyes narrowed, and he said seriously, "Alright, I understand. I'll stay home today."
Hanging up, Bernard closed his laptop and instructed, "Turn the car around and take me home."
The driver was stunned and looked surprised. "Mr. Mitchell, you're not going to the company today?"
"No, take me home!"
"...Yes, sir."
When Bernard arrived home, he saw Alex, who had just dropped off Katherine.
Seeing Alex's car, Bernard had his driver stop at the gate too. He got out and walked towards his sister.
Alex got out of the car with Katherine, tucking her hair behind her ear and whispering a few words to her.
Then he straightened up, looking seriously at Bernard. "Take care of her for me."
Bernard nodded slightly. "Don't worry. Even if it weren't for you, I'd take care of her."
Alex said nothing more and touched Katherine's head. "Call me if anything happens."
Katherine nodded. "Got it! You should go to work now. You're already late!"
Bernard said gently, "Let's go, Katherine, come inside with me."
Katherine responded and followed Bernard into the Mitchell family home.
Watching Katherine go inside, Alex got into his car and slowly drove away.
From the gate to the house was about 300 feet.
Katherine walked silently beside Bernard.
But Bernard had questions. He looked at her and asked gently, "Katherine, I'm glad you came home today, but what's your purpose?"
Alex had only said on the phone that Katherine would come home today, but he hadn't told him why.
He also knew Katherine wouldn't come back just to acknowledge her roots; there must be another reason!
Katherine looked straight ahead. "I'm here to have a chat with Scarlett."
Bernard squinted slightly, surprised.
After the last incident, Katherine and Scarlett's relationship had become very strained. Why would she want to see Scarlett?
Before Bernard could ask more, they walked into the Mitchell family house and immediately heard Alice talking to the elders.
"Dad, Mom, you've seen the news online, right? I've always thought Katherine wasn't a good girl, but because she saved Dad's life, I couldn't say anything!“
