Chapter 116 Alex, You're So Considerate
Sunny, who always loved competitive games, eagerly chimed in, "How about the four of us race? From here to the end of the woods up ahead, let's see who gets there first! How about it?"
Teresa raised her hand. "Sure! I'm in!"
Everyone agreed, and they spread out horizontally, each taking their lane, aligning at the starting point, ready to begin the race.
"Katherine." Alex's deep voice suddenly sounded from behind them.
Katherine and Sugar were ready to start running when she heard someone call her. She turned around and saw Alex sitting on a sleek, black horse not far away, looking at her with a serious expression.
Alex was dressed in elegant, professional equestrian attire, looking majestic and extraordinarily handsome. The man on the horse didn't look like a prince but rather a young king in his prime, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, commanding the world.
Katherine was momentarily stunned before asking, "Alex, what's up?"
"Come here." Alex's tone was calm and unwavering, not a command but carrying an undeniable authority.
Katherine furrowed her brows in confusion, guiding Sugar towards Alex to see what he wanted this time.
Teresa, Sunny, and Sophie also turned their heads, each with their thoughts.
Katherine's horse stopped face-to-face with Alex's horse. She asked, "Alex, what's the matter? I was just about to race with them!"
Facing each other on horseback, there was still a distance between them that couldn't be bridged by reaching out.
Alex was not satisfied with this. He pulled the reins and moved his horse forward, bringing the two horses side by side so he could look at Katherine up close.
Alex's gaze swept over her slightly swollen ear, then lowered to her hand holding the reins.
"Give me your hand," he said.
Katherine, feeling puzzled, let go of the reins and extended her hand to him.
Alex's rough hand turned her small hand over. Seeing that the rash on her palm from the allergy had improved, his tense gaze finally relaxed a bit.
"Alex?" Katherine furrowed her brows, puzzled, and growing a bit impatient.
Alex looked up at her, knowing she was eager to race. He extended his long arm and took an unopened bottle of mineral water from the side of his saddle, opened it, and handed it to her. "Drink some water before you go play."
That was it?
Katherine was momentarily stunned, her brows furrowing even more. She thought it was something important!
She was indeed a bit thirsty, so she cooperatively took the mineral water and drank a few sips. After drinking, she handed it back to him. "Thanks, Alex. Can I go back to the race now?"
Alex answered, "Yes."
With permission granted, Katherine turned her horse around and rode off without looking back.
Alex called her over just to give her some water?
When did Alex become so fussy?
Alex watched Katherine's slender figure bouncing on the horse, deep in thought. He took a sip from the mineral water bottle in his hand before screwing the cap back on.
"Alex, you're so considerate! You even brought water for Katherine!" Hilton teased as he stopped his horse beside Alex.
Alex's eyes darkened coldly as he glanced over. Hilton, Issac, and Jonathan had all ridden over to find him.
Hilton also picked up a bottle of mineral water, mimicking Alex's earlier serious tone, and exaggeratedly said to another brother nearby, "Issac, come on, drink some water before you go play. Your lips are chapped, and it makes me worry."
Issac felt like throwing up.
Alex, expressionless, calmly raised his riding crop and brought it down hard. The whip landed on the rear of Hilton's horse, and in the next instant, both horse and rider shot forward.
Hilton struggled to control the startled horse, shouting from a distance, "Alex! I was joking, and you're taking it too far!"
Alex put away the whip, his face showing no sign of what had just happened.
Jonathan chuckled softly, "Alex, Issac, how about we go over there and have another race?"
Issac nodded and said, "Let's go."
Alex gave a faint "hmm," but his eyes involuntarily glanced towards Katherine. Her race had already started.
Katherine was galloping towards the woods, far ahead of the other three.
Alex, Issac, and Jonathan went to the equestrian field to pass the time with some friendly competition.
Before long, Hilton returned on his horse, grumbling about the three of them while joining in.
And so, over an hour passed.
Katherine, Teresa, Sunny, and Sophie still had yet to return from their race.
Zephyr Meadows was vast, but the only place suitable for riding was that stretch of meadow and woods. Even if they had raced two or three times, they should have been back by now. Even if they weren't tired, their horses would be.
Alex was jumping an obstacle in the equestrian field when he suddenly felt uneasy, furrowing his brows.
At that moment, he saw a few figures on horseback approaching from a distance. They were back.
However, there were only three horses and three people.
As they got closer, he saw it was Teresa, Sunny, and Sophie.
Katherine was missing.
Alex's sharp gaze scanned the three of them, and he asked in a deep voice, "Where is she?"
Teresa looked up, her face pale and tearful, trembling as she said, "Alex, Katherine, she..."
Alex's calm eyes suddenly tightened. "What happened to her?"
Teresa finally couldn't hold back and burst into tears. "Just now, the four of us were racing, and Katherine won first place. We were all tired, so we got off our horses to rest in the shade of the woods. When we were ready to come back, Katherine got on her horse, and for some reason, Sugar suddenly went wild and took off with Katherine! We quickly mounted our horses to chase after her, but Sugar was too fast, and we couldn't catch up! We searched everywhere and finally found Sugar, who had calmed down near the cliff, but Katherine was nowhere to be found. It looks like... it looks like she fell off the cliff..."
Sunny's shoulders trembled slightly, his face tense with guilt, his eyes bloodshot. "Alex, I'm sorry."
Sophie, the oldest and relatively calmest among them, stepped forward with a look of regret and sighed deeply. "Alex, both Sunny and I advised Katherine today not to ride that horse, but she wouldn't listen to us. She thought she could handle that wild horse, and now this has happened."
Alex had no patience for any more useless words. With a grim face, he snapped the reins, turned his horse around, and galloped out of the equestrian field, heading straight for the cliff!
This was serious; her life was at stake!
Hilton, Issac, and Jonathan quickly mounted their horses and followed Alex to check on the situation.
