Chapter 404 Alice, I Want Your Life
Sunny frowned. He hated it when Alice and Scarlett pressured him to take over the family estate because he had zero interest in the Mitchell estate.
He also couldn't stand Alice's gossip about Bernard. Sure, Bernard was strict and a bit scary, but Sunny never doubted his good intentions.
Alice was right that he and Bernard had different mothers. But since he was a baby, Bernard had raised him, taught him to talk, and helped him learn to read.
Bernard didn't spoil him like he did Scarlett, but he was never unfair. Even though Bernard opposed his esports hobby, he'd still make sure Sunny got the gear he needed, albeit through Billy.
Sunny knew Billy wouldn't dare give him anything without Bernard's okay.
Lately, Bernard had been teaching him about company management, but Sunny wasn't interested and didn't pay attention.
"Mom, if you keep badmouthing Bernard, I'm gonna get mad!" Sunny said firmly.
"Sunny! If only you were half as sensible as Scarlett!" Alice snapped, frustrated with her son.
Alice had married Edwin and become Mrs. Mitchell, but she never got any love or care from him. Even when she pretended to be sick, Edwin showed no sympathy.
Sunny was unreliable and never listened to her. Only her daughter was on her side. Sigh!
Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Katherine walked out.
Alice was shocked. "Who are you?"
Katherine didn't answer, just glared at Alice with a hint of menace.
Alice had been her mom's best friend, but also the mistress who had an affair with her dad. Now, she was pushing her son to compete for the heir position against the ex-wife's son!
Katherine thought, 'Greed knows no bounds!'
She didn't care much for Bernard, but she didn't want this homewrecker to win.
Feeling uneasy under Katherine's gaze, Alice frowned. "Sunny, who is this? Why didn't you tell me someone else was here?"
Sunny looked at Katherine. "Mom, she is..."
Katherine cut him off. "Mr. Sunny Mitchell, did you solve that problem yet?"
Sunny was momentarily stunned. "I got it, but I haven't finished it! Don't underestimate me. Just wait, I'll finish it and show you!"
Katherine smiled. "Alright, then hurry up and finish. I'll be waiting."
Alice, hearing their exchange, thought for a moment. "So, she's a tutor? Sunny, is this another tutor Bernard hired for you?"
Sunny, eager to impress Katherine, focused on solving the problem and ignored Alice's question.
Alice noticed how seriously Sunny worked once Katherine appeared, confirming her belief that Katherine was a tutor.
Alice thought for a moment and then said to Katherine, "Miss, come with me. I need to discuss something with you."
Katherine smiled. "Sure."
Sunny was surprised Katherine didn't clarify and agreed to talk with his mom. He looked up. "Mom, she's actually..."
Katherine cut him off again. "Sir, focus on your problem. I'll check it when I get back."
Sunny was left confused, scratching his head as Katherine followed his mom out.
Katherine followed Alice to an unused guest room.
Alice closed the door, looked Katherine up and down, and asked, "Miss, what's your name?"
Katherine smiled. "My last name is Galatea."
Alice crossed her arms arrogantly. "Ms. Galatea, which university did you graduate from? Introduce yourself."
Katherine answered, "I graduated from Janetrick University. My grades were decent, enough to tutor your high school son."
Janetrick University! The best school in Janetrick. Only top students got in!
Alice was pleased with Katherine's background. "How much did Bernard pay you to tutor my son?"
Katherine kept smiling. "Not much. It's not convenient to disclose the exact amount."
Alice raised her chin. "Whatever he paid you, I can give you ten times that amount!"
Katherine feigned surprise. "Ma'am, I don't understand. Aren't you and Mr. Bernard Mitchell family? Why pay a tutor twice?"
Alice stared at Katherine. "Be honest, did Bernard ask you to teach my son the wrong things to make him fail college?"
Katherine stayed calm. "If I say no, would you believe me, Ma'am?"
Alice sneered. "Do you think I would?"
Katherine shrugged. "Since you won't believe me, trust your judgment. No need for me to answer."
Alice frowned. "I don't care if Bernard asked you to teach my son well or not. I'll pay you ten times more! Just make sure he gets into college. If you can get him into Janetrick University, I'll give you anything you want!"
Katherine blinked. "Anything I want? Really?"
Alice, with the air of a wealthy lady, said, "Ms. Galatea, you've seen our family's conditions. Do you think I can't afford your demands? As long as you get my son into Janetrick University, anything is possible!"
Katherine slightly curled her lips and took a few firm steps forward, stopping just inches from Alice.. They stood face to face, and Katherine narrowed her eyes. "What if I want your life?"
Katherine's words easily suppressed Alice's arrogance, filling her with a mix of fear and anger. "You... what did you say?!"
