Chapter 631 Taking Care of You
Bernard strolled in. "I'm here for Katherine. She around?"
Teresa looked kinda confused. "You tight with her or something? What's up?"
Before Bernard could say anything, Katherine showed up behind Teresa, looking all cool and detached. "Mr. Mitchell, what's the deal?"
Teresa stepped aside, giving Katherine some space.
Seeing Katherine after six months, Bernard felt a mix of relief and joy. He took a deep breath and asked, "Katherine, where the heck have you been these past six months?"
Katherine frowned. "Seems like everyone's got that question today. I don't owe you any explanations. Isn't it enough that I'm back in one piece?"
Bernard, usually all high and mighty, didn't get mad at her sass. He just nodded. "Yeah, it's good you're back. It's good you're safe."
Katherine had nothing more to say and turned to head back to her room.
Bernard trailed behind her, nodding at Ambrosia and Frank as he passed the dining table. He noticed the empty seat next to Ambrosia, with signs someone had been eating there.
Bernard squinted, instantly knowing it was Sunny's spot.
Sunny had ducked under the table the moment he heard Bernard was around.
Bernard wasn't here for Sunny today. He made a beeline for Katherine's room, knocked, and walked in.
After closing the front door, Teresa returned to the dining table, still puzzled. "What's the deal? Why's Bernard looking for Katherine? What's their story?"
Ambrosia and Frank exchanged a look but kept quiet.
Frank nudged Teresa. "Don't sweat it. Sit down and eat."
Teresa, still baffled, sat down and then noticed someone was missing. "Where's Sunny?"
Frank smirked and pointed under the table with his eyes.
Teresa was momentarily stunned, then peeked under the table and saw Sunny hiding there. She burst out laughing. "Sunny, you're such a chicken! It's just your brother, not some bad guy!"
Sunny, feeling embarrassed, stayed put and glared at Teresa. "If it were a bad guy, I wouldn't be scared! Keep it down, don't let Bernard find me!"
In the room, Katherine was lounging against the headboard, reading her book like Bernard wasn't even there.
Bernard's eyes scanned the room before settling on Katherine's noticeably pregnant belly. He said earnestly, "Katherine, come home with me."
Katherine flipped a page and asked, "I'm already home. Which home are you talking about?"
Bernard walked over and sat down smoothly. "Come on, you know what I mean."
Katherine leaned back, "Mr. Mitchell, how'd you even know I was here? Did Sunny spill the beans, or was it Jonathan?"
Bernard didn't beat around the bush, "It was Alex."
Katherine's eyes widened. "Alex? You two are like sworn enemies! Didn't think you still talked."
Bernard sighed. "Katherine, let's not get sidetracked. I won't grill you about where you've been, but I can't chill knowing you're out here alone. Come home with me. I'll make sure you're taken care of, alright?"
Katherine looked at him like he was a stranger, "Mr. Mitchell, I get it, but this is my home. I'm not going anywhere."
Bernard reached out, gently touching her head. "I know you're still mad at me and not ready to forgive, but you're pregnant now. Come back to the Mitchell Manor. I'll do whatever you want."
Katherine scoffed, "I've managed just fine these past six months. I don't need your help. Now that you see I'm fine, you can leave."
Bernard frowned, clearly frustrated. "Katherine!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Am I not as compliant as Scarlett, making you upset?"
Bernard was taken aback. "No, that's not it, and I wouldn't compare you two."
Katherine smiled coolly, "Mr. Mitchell, I get your concern and your good intentions. But have you thought about how you'll explain me to your family? Even if you say I'm your sister, what will they think?
I'm pregnant. Will Mrs. Hellen Mitchell and Mr. Vincent Mitchell be cool with me being unmarried and pregnant with a Melville baby? They already have issues with Mom. Bringing me back will just give them more ammo to criticize her. I don't want my situation to cause more drama for her."
Bernard looked at her, conflicted. "Katherine, our grandparents aren't as bad as you think. You've met them."
Katherine's eyes flashed with sarcasm. "Really? This is me being positive. If I were negative, I'd say they might not even believe I'm part of the Mitchell family! Didn't they kick Mom out because they thought she cheated and doubted my paternity?"
Bernard fell silent.
Katherine didn't want to drag it out. "Mr. Mitchell, just go! I'll take care of myself. You don't need to worry."
Bernard looked at her with deep concern. "If you don't want to go back to the Mitchell Manor, then come to my place. You're about to give birth. I'll make sure you're well taken care of, and I can keep an eye on your health."
