Chapter 71 The Man She Almost Married

Upon hearing the man's name, Katherine furrowed her brows and requested, "Do I have to go with you? Is it necessary?"

Seeing Katherine's reluctance, Sherry retorted sharply, "Katherine, know your place. You are my assistant now. Whatever I ask you to do, you do it obediently. You took my salary; you have no say in how I arrange things for you."

Katherine pinched her brows and agreed, "Alright."

The thought of encountering Alex again made her slightly uneasy, but Sherry clearly had no intention of letting her off work.

Katherine decided to go, with the way she was dressed today,, Alex might not even notice her.

"Sherry!" Kenny called out.

The middle-aged man from earlier walked over to call Sherry.

That man was none other than Kenny Reid, as referred to by Sherry.

"Sherry, Mr. Melville and the others are upstairs. I'll take you there now and introduce you," Kenny said slowly.

Sherry immediately rose from the swing chair with joy, answering, "I'm coming! Thank you, Kenny!"

Kenny smiled at his goddaughter and then noticed Katherine beside Sherry. His smile gradually faded, and he wryly said, "Sherry, who is this? Why is she dressed like this?"

Sherry glanced disdainfully at Katherine, then turned back to explain meekly, "Kenny, she's my assistant."

The refined and gentlemanly Kenny looked at Katherine with disdain and scrutiny, saying, "Why did you hire such an assistant? It's unsightly to have her around. One day, I'll help you find a more presentable one."

Sherry shook her head, explaining, "Kenny, she grew up in the countryside. I saw that she had a hard time finding a job, so I took her in."

Kenny was moved and admired, "Sherry, you are too kind."

Sherry giggled, linking her arm with Kenny's, and said meekly, "Kenny, never mind about my assistant. Please take me to meet Mr. Melville and the others."

"Alright, let's go," Kenny replied.

Watching Sherry's pretentious act, Katherine's eyes revealed a hint of irony as she followed them upstairs.

The banquet downstairs was lively, while the coffee shop upstairs exuded a quiet elegance.

Four distinguished men sat lazily around an antique table, engaged in leisurely conversation, with a professional barista brewing coffee for them in the middle of the table.

Kenny led Sherry in, bowed slightly, and warmly greeted, "Mr. Melville, Mr. Allen, Mr. Sanchez, Mr. Mostow, all four of you are here. I never expected to have the honor of seeing you sitting together."

Hilton sipped his coffee from a porcelain cup, glanced at them, and smiled, "Mr. Reid! Do you have another blockbuster coming out soon?"

Kenny modestly waved his hand and answered, "No, not at the moment. I'm actually thinking about filming a new movie and looking for investors. So I thought I'd come to see if you gentlemen might be interested in investing."

In the film industry, Kenny was considered a venerable veteran artist. However, in front of the true capital aristocrats, he still had to show humility to attract investment for his movies.

Hilton politely said, "Mr. Reid, you are too modest. Your movies consistently make over a billion at the box office. How could you have trouble finding investors? I think you're deliberately giving us a chance to invest and make a profit."

While there were always people eager to invest, wealthy individuals tended to interfere with his creative process, casting, and other matters.

It was better to have these top-tier businessmen be generous with their investments, as they mostly did it for fun and wouldn't interfere much with his work, even if they ended up losing money.

Kenny quickly declined, "You flatter me. I only make pocket changes from my films, which are nothing compared to what you have."

Hilton noticed the woman beside Kenny and squinted as he appraised her, asking, "Is this the new generation of Reid girls?"

Kenny pushed Sherry forward and introduced her. "This is my goddaughter Sherry, a somewhat famous actress in the circle and also the lead actress in my next film."

Hilton complimented with a smile, "Ah, Mr. Reid, you do have a keen eye. Each leading lady you choose is a beauty with exceptional grace."

Hearing the praise, Sherry felt elated, but she hadn't dared to look up since she arrived. She had no idea what the man praising her looked like. Before coming in, Kenny had advised Sherry to appear innocent and naive, as it would appeal to these wealthy young men.

Kenny patted Sherry's shoulder, gesturing, "Sherry, this is Mr. Allen. Quickly, greet Mr. Allen!"

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Allen," Sherry said, lifting her head slightly and smiling sweetly.

She saw a distinguished and noble young man. He was handsome and charming, exuding elegance and sophistication with a hint of nonchalance.

He was incredibly handsome,  even more exquisite and handsome than any male actor she had worked with before.

Kenny continued to introduce her, "Sherry, this is Mr. Sanchez, the CEO of the Sanchez Group."

"Hello, Mr. Sanchez," Sherry greeted as Issac nodded and continued sipping his tea.

"And this is the host of today's banquet, the young master of the Mostow Family," Kenny then continued.

"Hello, Mr. Mostow," Sherry greeted as Jonathan smiled back.

Sherry looked at each of them one by one as Kenny introduced them, her eyes filled with amazement. She was surprised that not only were these men wealthy and powerful, but each one was more handsome than the last.

Finally, Kenny led Sherry to Alex, who was sitting in the center. With a slightly more formal tone, he introduced, "Sherry, this is Mr. Melville, the CEO of the Melville Group and your direct superior.

"Mr. Melville, nice to meet you," she then called.

Finally, she was face to face with the man she most wanted to see. Sherry looked up excitedly and was shocked, her pupils trembling with surprise..

Was this the Alex she almost married?

He was such a stunning man.!

He was cold and aloof, with deep-set features like a sculpted masterpiece. She almost couldn't believe he was a real human being, except for the fact that his eyes blinked.

Alex, however, didn't even glance at them; with an indifferent expression, he just chatted casually with Issac.

An awkward silence fell, leaving Kenny and Sherry feeling uncomfortable.

Hilton smiled and said, "Mr. Reid, please have a seat and tell us about the theme of your new movie."

"Thank you, Mr. Allen," Kenny answered in a kind voice.

Kenny sat down with Sherry, and the assistant obediently followed them to a new spot. Katherine kept her head down the whole time, looking like a meek servant, behaving obediently and avoiding looking around.

In reality, she was afraid of being recognized by those men, as aside from Alex, most of them had seen her before.

Katherine wanted to avoid being identified.
