Chapter 1042 Like Punching a Pillow
Some staff members standing at a distance started whispering, "Why is it always Ms. Pearl who buys things? Is Ms. Pearl doing it for her? Shouldn't Christina be the one paying?"
"She probably thinks we're not good enough for her stuff. Not everyone is as considerate as Ms. Pearl!"
"But she can't keep letting Ms. Pearl spend her own money like this. It's not fair."
"Exactly, it's not right at all."
This wasn't Virginia's first time working with this crew.
Every time, she would either buy coffee or bring drinks, and occasionally, she would even bring various exquisite desserts.
Such gestures to win people's hearts were very effective with the ordinary crew members.
Christina often heard the crew praising Virginia enthusiastically, calling her 'Ms. Pearl,' while they were less warm towards her, the lead actress.
Christina didn't mind. To her, acting was just a job to make money.
Maybe she liked this job more than others and was more invested in it.
These ordinary staff members might work with her once and never see her again, so she didn't see the need to spend energy on superficial gestures to please them.
If Virginia liked doing these things, she could go ahead. Christina didn't care.
After confirming her next scene, Christina changed into dry clothes and settled into her seat to read the script, ignoring everything else.
Virginia's repeated gestures were completely ignored by Christina, which was hard for her to tolerate.
After all, she had spent so much money!
A staff member over there, who looked rather piggish, had already taken desserts three times. Was he that hungry?
Virginia looked at the staff member devouring the desserts with disgust but feigned concern on her face, "Are there enough desserts? You look like you haven't eaten in ages! Isn't the crew's food enough for you? Eat slowly, don't choke."
Before she finished speaking, the staff member started choking. Virginia silently stepped back a few steps, "Oh dear! How could you be so careless? Quick, drink some coffee to wash it down. Eat slowly, there's plenty more!"
The staff member, feeling a bit embarrassed after recovering, gave a sincere smile, "Sorry for the trouble, Ms. Pearl. I pulled an all-nighter yesterday and didn't eat anything, so I'm really hungry."
Virginia nodded while listening and didn't forget to comfort him, "Being too hungry can do that. But no matter how heavy the workload is, you must remember to eat. If your stomach gets damaged, it's hard to recover."
"Ms. Pearl knows about these things too?"
Virginia covered her mouth and giggled, "It's nothing, really..."
She walked over to Christina and leaned on her shoulder, looking very close.
"An old friend of Christina and mine had a bad stomach, so I learned some medical knowledge. Young people often don't take care of their bodies. You guys, after eating my food, help me take care of Christina. She's new and nervous, so remind her to eat on time. We don't want her getting a stomach problem too!"
"Wow, Ms. Pearl is such a good friend. It's a blessing to have a friend like her in the industry!"
Everyone sincerely admired her, not understanding why newcomer Christina had such good luck.
Christina seemed so indifferent, not even pretending to care about the crew, yet she had Virginia as a friend, arranging everything for her. How lucky!
Christina found it amusing. Virginia was really getting into her act.
Her slightly upturned lips looked like a sneer to Virginia, who felt like she hadn't managed to provoke Christina, like punching a pillow.
Despite all her efforts and costs, it seemed like nothing more than a tickle to Christina.
Did Christina really not care about others' opinions of her?
As far as Virginia knew, the crew often complained about Christina's low emotional intelligence.
She knew their greed well; they just hadn't benefited from her, so they spread bad things about Christina.
But Christina's calm demeanor made Virginia very unhappy!
She was only in the entertainment industry because of Bernard's connections. Why act so high and mighty?
At that moment, Virginia's phone rang. She picked it up but didn't answer immediately.
The ringtone was loud in Christina's ear, making her look up, "Ms. Pearl, aren't you going to answer your phone?"
Virginia bit her lip, her gaze shifting from the caller ID to Christina, hesitating before answering.
"Hello?"
Christina had no interest in eavesdropping, but Virginia deliberately took the call near her, so she couldn't help but hear.
"Are you bringing me food? No need, I'm not hungry! Yes, Mintz made a lot of desserts for Christina's crew this morning, and I had quite a bit too."
Now, it was hard for Christina not to know who was on the other end.
"You don't need to buy me anything, I'm really not hungry. Oh, let me ask Christina if she's eaten. Maybe you can bring her some? Wait, let me ask. Christina."
When Christina looked up, she saw Virginia's enlarged smiling face, with her other hand theatrically covering the receiver. Was that necessary?
"Christina, Bernard said he's bringing me food. Have you eaten? Should he bring you some too?"
Bring some too?
What did Virginia mean? Christina wasn't stupid; she could tell. She was just annoyed. Why did they always drag her into their business?
She had already decided to make money and leave. Wasn't that enough?
The angrier Christina felt, the calmer she appeared. She shook her head, "I've eaten, no need."
Virginia immediately put on a hurt expression and pouted into the phone, "Christina said no. What a pity. You don't need to come then, just go ahead with your work."
Christina didn't want to listen to their pretentious conversation any longer, so she got up and took her script to find Curtis.
"Mr. Caldwell."
Curtis was holding a lunchbox in his left hand, eating a few bites, while his right hand controlled the machine to replay a previous scene.
He was always a perfectionist, even reviewing scenes that had passed in one take, striving for perfection.
He wasn't surprised to hear Christina's voice and glanced at her, "Christina, have you eaten? If not, have some of mine."
Curtis had ordered a work meal for the staff, but Christina had no appetite and waved it off, "No, I've eaten. I wanted to discuss this scene with you."
"I know, the scene at the dock with the foreigners, right? I figured you'd ask."
Curtis quickly ate a few more bites and set his food aside, "Tell me your thoughts first. How do you see the female lead?"
