Chapter 385 Someone Wants to Drink
Sunny jumped, turning to see Scarlett. He quickly hid his phone behind his back. "N-nothing!"
Scarlett hadn't noticed anything at first, but Sunny's reaction made her curious.
"Sunny, what are you hiding? Got a secret girlfriend?"
Sunny shook his head. "No, no! I'm not dating anyone!"
Scarlett didn't believe him and smiled. "If you're not dating, why hide your phone? Let me see who you're chatting with!"
Sunny wasn't worried about Scarlett seeing his phone; he was worried she'd be upset.
He frowned, thinking. To get out of it, he reluctantly admitted, "Alright! I-I am dating someone! The chat is private, so I can't show you!"
Hearing her still-school-aged brother was dating, Scarlett got worried. She pressed further, "Not showing me? Then I'll tell Bernard you're not focusing on your studies and are busy dating!"
She cared about her brother. Being her full-blooded brother, he was closer to her than their half-brother Bernard.
Sunny looked nervous. "No! Scarlett, if you tell Bernard, I'm doomed!"
Scarlett smugly moved closer, demanding his phone. "Then let me see! I want to see what your girlfriend looks like and who she is."
Sunny clutched his phone and backed away. "Really, I can't..."
"Then I'll go tell Bernard right now!"
"Don't!"
While Sunny was uneasy, Scarlett quickly snatched his phone.
"Sis, don't look! Give me back my phone!" Sunny tried to get it back, but Scarlett had already run off.
Scarlett ran upstairs with his phone, determined to see who Sunny was dating.
Sunny was an adult now, and dating was fine, but she couldn't let him date a girl from a low-income family. She had to be a well-matched young lady.
Only a girl from a family as prestigious as the Mitchell family was worthy of Sunny.
Moreover, if Sunny's future father-in-law had influence, it would help Sunny compete with Bernard for the Mitchell family inheritance and the position of the group's successor.
Scarlett had always known that Bernard's affection for her was because she had mimicked the habits of the missing Laura since childhood and learned how to please and act coy.
But Sunny was her real brother, with no barriers between them.
Only if Sunny became the heir could she and her mother truly hold their heads high in the family.
Their mother was the father's second wife, and despite having Sunny, she had never been accepted by the grandparents.
If Sunny dated an unworthy girl, they would be looked down upon even more by the family elders.
So, if she found out today that Sunny's girlfriend was from a low-income family, she had to end it fast!
With this mindset, Scarlett opened Sunny's chat history on his phone.
Sunny had been kicked out of the chat group, but the old messages were still there.
Scarlett saw the chat wasn't about romance but Alex and Katherine's wedding photoshoot! Her expression froze, eyes darkening.
In the video, Alex, at the photographer's suggestion, gently held Katherine's waist, looked into her eyes, kissed her, and smiled.
Scarlett had known Alex for years but never experienced such affection from him!
The video was like a thorn, making Scarlett envious, jealous, and hateful. She clenched her teeth, her expression dark and sinister.
Just then, Sunny found her. He had never seen Scarlett look so frightening and felt uneasy. "Scarlett, are you okay?"
Scarlett snapped out of it, forced a stiff smile, and said, "I'm fine! Why wouldn't I be fine!"
Sunny frowned. He knew about Scarlett's obsession with Alex and could see she was pretending to be strong. He felt heartbroken. "Scarlett, Alex and Katherine..."
Scarlett interrupted with a smile, "Even if Alex and Katherine are together, he won't abandon Charles and me! I know Alex; he's a responsible man. He'll take care of us!"
Sunny was frustrated. "But if Alex is already with Katherine, isn't it wrong for you to get involved?"
Scarlett laughed dismissively. "Involved? What do you mean by involved? Sunny, I'm Alex's lifesaver. If he doesn't take care of me, he's ungrateful! If Katherine stops Alex from taking care of his lifesaver, she's not a good wife! Alex should divorce her, not my problem! Don't you think?"
Sunny was shocked by Scarlett's reasoning. "Scarlett, you..."
Scarlett didn't want to hear more from her just-turned-adult brother. She handed the phone back to him and said, "Alright, Sunny, don't worry about my business! Go study hard, and don't forget what Mom expects from you!"
With that, Scarlett turned and went back to her room.
Watching Scarlett's back, Sunny frowned in disbelief. He felt Scarlett was no longer the same person he had always known.
Meanwhile, the group chat continued.
Hilton: [Teresa, Alex is getting married again today. Shouldn't he treat us to some drinks?]
Teresa: [Well. I can't decide that. Let me ask Alex if he's up to something!]
Jonathan's avatar suddenly popped up: [I just finished my work. What did I miss?]
Hilton mentioned Jonathan: [Jonathan, Alex has good news today. He should treat us to a drink!]
Jonathan didn't reply, probably scrolling through the previous messages.
Issac rarely typed a few words: [Count me in for the drinks.]
After the first outfit shoot, during a break, Alex squinted at the new messages in the group chat and raised an eyebrow.
Then, he handed his phone to Katherine, who was getting her makeup and hair done.
"Katherine, a few people are bugging us to get them drinks for the wedding. What should we do?"
