Chapter 266 He Wished He Could Strangle Her
Katherine froze, her face flushing at the mention of that passionate night.
Alex noticed her embarrassment, a hint of warmth flickering in his deep eyes.
This was the reaction he wanted—shy, nervous, like a woman with feelings!
Not like this— no reaction, surprise, joy, or pain. She even ignored his existence.
He called out, "Katherine Galatea."
Alex suddenly called her full name, his voice low and husky.
In any relationship, when someone uses a full name, it's usually not a good sign!
Katherine looked at him defensively. "Mr. Melville, if you have something to say, just say it!"
His hand, which had been prying at her jaw, shifted to pinching her chin, lifting her face. "Why don't you call me Alex anymore?"
Katherine felt his attitude shift, a mix of dissatisfaction and flirtation.
Given their current relationship, using specific titles could lead to unnecessary misunderstandings.
She frowned slightly and explained, "Mr. Melville, we used to be on a first-name basis due to our friendly relationship. However, now that I'm Mr. Mitchell's secretary and you're his friend, it's more appropriate for me to address you with respect."
Hearing her mention Mr. Mitchell, Alex's eyes darkened. "When your Mr. Mitchell left you on the highway, he didn't seem to treat you with respect, yet you still remain loyal to him!"
Katherine was speechless. Bernard's behavior of leaving an employee on the highway seemed inhumane to her!
After a few seconds of silence, Katherine stubbornly smiled. "Maybe all bosses are that mean! Since I chose this job, I have to accept the boss's tests. As long as I get paid on time, that's a good boss to me!"
Alex looked at her stubborn demeanor, both angry and endearing.
She went out to find a job on her own, was mistreated by her boss, and left on the highway, yet she was still stubborn!
Initially filled with anger at her secretive disappearance, Alex's emotions shifted upon seeing her unharmed. His anger melted away, overshadowed by relief.
He decided not to dwell on why she left without saying goodbye, not to get angry with her, not to pressure her— just as long as she was safe and willing to return.
She was still young, full of curiosity about the world, and it was understandable for her to go out and explore. As long as she knew to come home, it was fine.
He remained silent, managing his emotions, restraining himself from taking out his anger on her, not wanting to scare her away again after just finding her.
After releasing his accumulated anger, his gaze turned greedy, fixating on her thin, moist lips. His thumb gently rubbed her lower lip. "If you want a salary, I can pay you. Name your price, and I'll give it to you. Will you come home with me?"
She thought, 'Come home with him? Alex's last words sounded like he was coaxing me?!'
Katherine was stunned, feeling his words were ambiguous. "Mr. Melville, please have some self-respect! I'm out here to work and earn money, not to sell myself!"
Alex paused, rarely softening in his life, and this was how she understood it.
He was almost amused by her!
Alex questioned, "What? Is my money different from Bernard's? Can't I satisfy you?"
Katherine felt offended. This man already had a fiancée and a child who called him dad, yet here he was, saying "come home with me" so inappropriately. What did he think of her?
What would she do at his home? Did he mean to keep her as a mistress?
In Alex's eyes, Katherine could see his desire for her!
But whether it was out of a desire to conquer or for novelty, it was all disrespectful and self-centered possessiveness that she hated!
Why did he think that just because he was rich and powerful, any woman would be willing to stay by his side as his lover or mistress with just a beckoning finger?
Ridiculous!
Thinking of this, Katherine got angry. She forcefully pushed his hand away from her chin. "Yes! I just want to earn the Mitchell Group's money, not your dirty money!"
Alex's face darkened after hearing ''dirty money'', looking at her gloomily, restraining his anger.
He was used to controlling everything, and encountering a woman he couldn't control naturally made him furious!
The emotions he had just managed to control instantly crumbled!
Looking at her face that he both loved and hated, Alex grabbed her neck and reprimanded, "Katherine, have I been too nice to you? Making you think I have no temper and won't do anything to you?"
Katherine instinctively clawed at his tightening hands on her neck, unable to pry them off, her face turning red. "Alex, you!"
What was Alex suddenly so agitated about? Was he going to harm her?
Indeed, he almost wanted to strangle her to death so she wouldn't be so infuriating!
Seeing her cough and discomfort, Alex finally loosened his grip. "Katherine, do you think the things I said to you before were all jokes?"
Katherine looked at him, her pupils trembling.
She was the joke! She took his words seriously, thinking he was sincere, thinking she was the only one in his eyes, but he and Scarlett already had a child!
What a joke!
The man's phone suddenly vibrated, breaking the stalemate between them.
Alex glanced at the caller ID, considered for a few seconds, then released Katherine and answered the phone, asking in a deep voice, "What's up?"
The car was so quiet that even without the speaker on, Katherine could hear Scarlett's soft voice on the phone.
Scarlett called out, "Alex, where are you? As soon as you left, Charles started fussing, crying for you!"
Alex frowned and said, "Put him to sleep first."
Scarlett's voice sounded helpless. "But."
Without waiting for her to finish, Alex hung up the phone, tossing it aside, his impatient actions revealing his frustration.
Katherine listened to Alex's perfunctory tone with Scarlett and didn't think much of it.
Katherine thought, 'Alex is always such a jerk. As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.'
"Mr. Melville, hanging up on Miss Mitchell like that might not be a good idea. She and Charles seem to need you right now," said Katherine.
Alex raised his eyes coldly, giving her a dark look. "Are you instructing me on how to do things?"
Katherine forced a dry smile. "No, I wouldn't dare! Mr. Melville's affairs are none of my business, but since I'm in your car right now, any unnecessary misunderstandings would make things difficult for me."
Alex extinguished the nearly burnt-out cigarette in his hand, squinting at her mockingly, "Unnecessary misunderstandings? What misunderstandings?"
Katherine pouted, "Like being misunderstood as seducing you, a man with a wife and child, not letting you answer the phone or go back to see your wife and child!"
Alex frowned, coldly staring at her. "Ms. Galatea, it seems you are the one who has misunderstood. Charles is not—"
