Chapter 669 She Knows Everything!
The clerk asked, "What kind of flyers are you looking to print? Once we get the layout sorted, it'll take about thirty minutes to print them!"
Sophia responded, "No need for anything fancy, just make it quick!"
"Got it! We'll go with the simplest layout. Should have it ready in fifteen minutes!"
Later that evening.
After dinner, Katherine was strolling through the Mitchell family's garden, enjoying the evening breeze and the moonlight.
As she walked, she overheard someone grumbling ahead, "Seriously, who dumped all these flyers here? So inconsiderate."
"Yeah! People just toss them away, and they end up blowing into our garden!"
Two maids were sweeping the ground and complaining when they heard footsteps approaching.
They turned around and saw it was Katherine.
Immediately, they straightened up. "Ms. Galatea, could you please walk over there for a bit? We're sweeping here, and the dust might bother you."
Katherine smiled. "Sure, thanks for your hard work."
She didn't think much of it, just smiled at the maids and walked past them.
Once Katherine was out of earshot, the maids resumed their chat. "Hey! Did you see this flyer about Alex from the Melville family being murdered?"
"Yeah, it says Mr. Melville died under mysterious circumstances, and they're offering a big reward for any useful information!"
"Who would dare to mess with someone from the Melville family!"
"Who knows?"
As they chatted and swept, they suddenly found themselves sweeping up to a pair of feet. They looked up and saw Ms. Galatea had returned!
Katherine looked at them with a serious and shocked expression. "Who did you say was murdered?"
The two maids were startled by Katherine's serious tone. They had no idea about Katherine's past with Alex.
One of them quickly replied, "It was Alex from the Melville family. He was killed in an explosion last night, and his body was blown to pieces. Now, the Melville family is looking for any information. We saw it on these flyers on the ground."
Katherine immediately looked down at the pile of dusty flyers.
She tried to pick one up but struggled because of her large belly.
Seeing this, one of the maids quickly picked up a flyer and handed it to her.
Katherine grabbed the flyer and saw that the front was an ad for a store, while the back had the information the maids had just mentioned.
The flyer read: [The Melville family is seeking reliable clues from the public, with a significant reward for useful information.]
Katherine thought, 'Alex was blown up? No way!'
Katherine stood there, lost in thought. Her chest felt tight, and her breathing became heavy.
'Even if it was really Alex, who cares? Alex has nothing to do with me anymore!'
She threw the flyer away and quickly walked back to the house without looking back.
Seeing her rush off, the two maids couldn't help but worry and called after her, "Ms. Galatea, slow down! Be careful, don't fall."
Katherine burst into the house, panting heavily. Bernard was on the sofa, checking Sunny's homework.
She hurried over and blurted out, "Is it true about Alex?"
Bernard's head snapped up, his expression turning stiff. He frowned. "Who told you?"
Seeing Bernard's reaction and recalling all the weird stuff from the past few days, including Sophia's visit that afternoon, Katherine was convinced the flyers were legit!
She angrily demanded, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Bernard stood up, looking worried, and walked slowly towards her. "Katherine, I didn't mean to keep it from you. I was worried it would affect your health."
Not wanting to hear more, Katherine pushed him away. "Don't come near me! I need to go out!"
She turned to leave.
Bernard grabbed her wrist. "Katherine, it's already happened. Going out won't change anything. Calm down. Remember? You said you didn't want anything more to do with Alex."
Katherine's mind was a mess, her chest feeling like it was being cut by a dull knife. "But I never thought he would die!"
Bernard frowned, looking at her with concern. "Katherine, calm down."
But she couldn't listen to any advice. She tried to pull her wrist from his grasp. "Let go of me! Lend me a car, I need to go out!"
"Katherine, you're heavily pregnant, almost at your due date! Even if not for yourself, think about the baby. If Alex is really gone, the baby in your belly is his only bloodline left in this world. Can you bear to let anything happen to the baby?"
Hearing his words, Katherine paused and gradually calmed down.
Bernard gently embraced her, patting her back softly. "It's okay! Be good, stay home, and don't go anywhere."
Katherine's eyes filled with tears, her expression sharp, her voice trembling slightly. "Tell me, who did it?"
At this point, Bernard didn't want to hide anything from her. "As far as I know, Alex's father had a very complicated personal life. It was probably one of his father's illegitimate children who wanted to kill him and take his place."
Alex's father was promiscuous in his youth and had many children with different women. From a young age, Alex had to deal with threats from his half-siblings. Each one was eager for his death to have a chance at inheriting the Melville family's fortune."
Katherine had never known these details about the Melville family, and it was the first time she heard about it. She had always wondered why only Jackie and Sandra had appeared in the Melville mansion, and Alex never mentioned his parents, but she never asked him.
Bernard suddenly felt Katherine leaning heavily against him. He looked down and saw that she had closed her eyes. "Katherine?"
Unable to wake her, Bernard realized something was wrong and immediately shouted, "Quick! Call an ambulance! No, don't call an ambulance, get the car over here immediately! We need to take Katherine to the nearest hospital!"
Sunny, who had been standing by, panicked and ran to get the driver.
