Alex walked in slowly and tossed the phone back to Sunny. His gaze remained fixed on Katherine. He walked up to her, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear with delicate tenderness.
"Even if we have different views, we can still seek common ground while preserving our differences and live in harmony for a lifetime," he stated.
Katherine was startled.
'Seek common ground while preserving differences, and live in harmony for a lifetime?'
Hearing such words from his mouth felt a bit creepy.
Coming back to her senses, Katherine couldn't help but tug at the corner of her mouth.
Did Alex hear everything?
Was he angry?
Sophie was equally shocked that Alex used such words to describe his relationship with Katherine. She found it hard to accept but didn't dare to show it.
She could only awkwardly smile and explain, "Alex, I was just joking with Katherine!"
Alex slightly tilted his tall frame, standing firmly beside Katherine, and looked at Sophie with cold, piercing eyes. "Jokes made at the wrong time can be very annoying."
Sophie forced a stiff laugh. "Alex, I'm really sorry... I just thought that a girl like Katherine, who grew up in the countryside, would be simple, kind, and easygoing, so I felt I could joke around with her a bit. Katherine, are you upset?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. Sophie was clearly giving a backhanded compliment. If she said she was upset, wouldn't that mean she wasn't simple and kind and was instead petty?
Thinking of this, she was about to respond when Alex suddenly raised his arm to wrap around her shoulder. His distinct fingers gently squeezed her shoulder as if signaling her not to speak.
Alex looked at Sophie expressionlessly and said, "Yes, my wife grew up in the countryside. Simplicity, kindness, and easygoing nature are her virtues, but that doesn't give anyone the right to bully her."
Katherine blinked and looked at Alex.
Sophie panicked and quickly explained nervously, "Alex, you're overthinking it. How could I bully Katherine? She just healed my foot, and I'm grateful to her! Alex, you didn't see it, but Katherine is amazing. She used orthopedic techniques to fix my foot in just a few moves, so now I can walk. I was feeling a bit emotional. A country-raised girl like Katherine is so skilled in many things. In contrast, I'm delicate and practically helpless! Of course, I was trying to help by suggesting she adjust her rural values to align more with our circle's values. That way, you two will have fewer conflicts in the future!"
"None of your business." Alex's four cold words left no room for argument.
Then, he looked at Katherine beside him and slightly curled his lips. "My wife doesn't need to change anything. It's me who should accept her transformation and change my extravagant and indulgent ways, right, honey?"
Katherine looked at Alex in a daze. Why was Alex speaking to her in such a teasing tone? She felt a bit uncomfortable.
At this moment, the smile on Sophie's face had completely frozen, and her eyes were filled with a thousand sharp needles, all wanting to stab that lowly Katherine!
Alex gently brushed Katherine's smooth cheek with his long fingers, his tone softening a bit. "Didn't I say to let Leander take you home first? Why are you still here meddling?"
Katherine snapped back to reality and lowered her eyes slightly. "Then I'll leave now."
With that, she turned and walked out from under Alex's arm. "Mr. Nelson, we can go now."
Leander snapped back to reality and instinctively glanced at Mr. Melville's expression before responding to Katherine, ‘’Yes, Mrs. Melville."
Alex, who was being coldly treated by Katherine, furrowed his brows slightly. His long eyes narrowed as his face gradually darkened.
Suddenly, Katherine stopped in her tracks, and his gaze warmed slightly. Was she going to say goodbye to him?
But Katherine turned around and smiled at Sophie instead. "I almost forgot to say goodbye to Ms. Jones. After all, she has spent so much money for us."
Alex's face instantly darkened.
Sophie was momentarily stunned, feeling that Katherine's words were ill-intentioned, but in front of everyone, she could only smile and respond, "Katherine, you're welcome!"
Katherine also smiled, walked over to Sophie, and gave her a lukewarm hug, whispering in her ear, "I forgot to clarify with Ms. Jones earlier. I never instigated Alex to withdraw his investment, nor did I even know he had invested in the Jones family. You provoked me, and if I wanted to settle the score, I would handle you myself. Sophie's spine chilled, and she felt an immediate surge of fear. Coming back to her senses, Sophie felt indignant, secretly grinding her teeth, her smile cracking with anger, but she couldn't lose her temper.
In that instant, she fully understood that Katherine's booking of the venue for three days next month wasn't to compensate everyone but to scam her out of money!
Even though she acted like $50,000 was a trivial amount, spending it like this still pained Sophie.
That money could have bought a very nice designer bag, and now it was gone!
However, this scheming little Katherine was being overly arrogant!
Did she say that she would settle the score herself without Alex's help? Did she threaten that if Sophie provoked her again, Katherine would make her pay?

But Sunny stepped in front of him, looking serious. "Alex, what did Scarlett say on the phone just now? Did she mention when she's coming back?"
