Chapter 143 Alex's First Love is Very Beautiful

Scarlett was slightly shorter than Katherine, with sickly pale skin. Her features were exceptionally delicate, like a tender and emotional figure in a realistic painting, with a small rouge mole between her brows. Her round, beautiful eyes had slightly drooping corners, giving her the appearance of an innocent, carefree fawn.

She was very pretty, possessing a non-aggressive kind of beauty that instinctively made people want to protect her.

However, Scarlett was wearing pajamas and had run downstairs barefoot to open the door.

It seemed she had spent the night here.

Realizing this, Katherine's lips curled into a cold smile.

Fortunately, she had the foresight not to come back last night, or it would have been really awkward!

She couldn't help but criticize Alex for being shameless. Couldn't he take his old flame to a hotel?

There was still a nominal wife at home with whom he had yet to end his marriage, yet he brought another woman home for the night. Over the line!

Without getting a response from Katherine, Scarlett blinked her doe-like, moist eyes and asked again, "Miss, who are you looking for?"

It wasn't that Katherine didn't want to respond; she just didn't know how to answer Scarlett's question.

If she said her name, Scarlett might not recognize it. Saying she was 'Mrs. Melville' would seem a bit presumptuous.

Katherine had no intention of creating conflict with this unfamiliar girl, nor did she want to compete with her for a man.

After pondering for a moment, Katherine chose a neutral answer and said, "I'm not looking for anyone. I'm temporarily staying here."

Scarlett's big eyes sparkled as if she had discovered something new, "You live here?"

At this moment, Uncle Anton came downstairs, looking somewhat anxious. When he saw Katherine standing at the door, his eyes lit up, and he quickly walked over excitedly. "Mrs. Melville, you're back!"

Katherine looked at Uncle Anton and nodded.

Uncle Anton observed Katherine from head to toe before asking with concern. "Mrs. Melville, where did you go last night? Why didn't you come back?"

Katherine walked in casually and replied, "I hung out with my friends last night and stayed over because it was too late."

Seeing that she had returned safely, Uncle Anton seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "I see. As long as you're back, that's good!"

Katherine didn't pay much attention to Uncle Anton's change in expression. She naturally handed him the food box. "Uncle Anton, this is a chestnut cake I brought back from my friend's house. Please have someone put it in the refrigerator for me. I'll eat it when I get hungry this afternoon."

Uncle Anton respectfully took the box. "Alright, Mrs. Melville."

Turning around, Uncle Anton called over a maid, handed her the box to put in the refrigerator, and signaled her with his eyes to quickly call Mr. Melville and inform him that Mrs. Melville had returned.

The maid understood, nodded with the box in hand, and turned to leave.

Katherine changed into her slippers at the entrance and walked towards the stairs to go upstairs to her room.

She had work to do. The overall design of the new office building for the Melville Group was a complex project. After so many days, she finally had some design inspiration, but she needed to come up with a detailed design sketch within three days. Time was still tight.

She had to get to work!

However, she had only taken a few steps when she heard someone softly call her name from behind.

"Katherine." Scarlett's voice was soft and gentle.

Katherine paused, somewhat surprised that Scarlett knew her name, and looked back at her. "Hmm? Do you need something?"

Scarlett stared at her with wide, innocent eyes, taking a step closer. "So, you're Katherine!"

Katherine nodded. "Yes, that's me."

What, did she want to fight?

Scarlett walked up to Katherine and suddenly took her hands affectionately, apologizing, "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you. I thought a guest had arrived."

Katherine wasn't used to physical contact with someone she had just met, so she calmly withdrew her hands and responded with a faint smile. "It's okay. We've never met before, so it's normal that you didn't recognize me."

Scarlett didn't seem to mind Katherine's withdrawal and smiled innocently. "Katherine, when I was abroad, Alex often mentioned you on the phone!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Really? What did Mr. Melville say about me?"

Whatever Alex said about her, it probably wasn't anything good.

Scarlett looked at Katherine with admiration, her eyes full of genuine joy. "Alex often praised you, saying you're very sensible, not the kind of girl who thinks about climbing the social ladder. He said you have a lot of principles, and consciously keep your distance from him! In short, he said you're great."

He really said a lot. They must have been talking on the phone frequently!

But Alex wasn't praising her; he was clearly reporting his daily life to Scarlett, clarifying his relationship with other women.

She didn't know Alex was so loyal to Scarlett.

Katherine's lips curled slightly. "Thanks for his compliments."

Scarlett sincerely added, "Katherine, thank you for helping Alex deal with the family during this time!"

"It's nothing," Katherine replied with a helpless smile. She was forced into it.

"Katherine, you're really nice. I feel a strong connection with you. I think we can become good friends!" As she spoke, Scarlett warmly took Katherine's hands again, looking at her with doe-like eyes full of goodwill.

Scarlett's enthusiasm was overwhelming, and this time, Katherine didn't have the heart to pull her hands away, enduring the awkwardness.

She didn't have any hostility towards Scarlett but didn't want to be friends with anyone in their circle.

Once the collaboration period ended, Alex and everyone around him would be irrelevant to her.

"Alex, you're back!" Scarlett suddenly let go of Katherine's hands and excitedly ran towards the door.

Katherine turned to look and saw that Alex had returned. The man had just walked in, looking hurried.

Alex was still wearing the suit from yesterday at Moonlight Manor, his hair slightly tousled by the wind outside, adding a touch of liveliness to his mature, stern, and handsome face.

As soon as he entered, he looked directly at Katherine, his cold eyes tinged with frightening bloodshot lines and a bit of stubble on his usually impeccably groomed face.

At this moment, Alex looked... disheveled, tired, wild, dangerous.

And, an emaciation that has hardly ever appeared on his strong and cold face. He seemed to have lost a lot of weight overnight.

It was hard not to wonder if he had overindulged last night.

Katherine squinted, thinking that Alex and Scarlett had reunited after a long time, had a passionate confession last night, and must have been unable to control themselves, embracing each other until dawn, right?
