Chapter 661 How Long Can It Be Defended?

Alex finally plopped down on his new chair.

Still no word from Katherine. Alex rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the day, and pulled out an anonymous letter from his pocket.

The letter had been wedged in the door downstairs by some guest Alex had gone out to meet. The security guard found it and handed it to him. The envelope was addressed to Alex, with a few drops of red blood smeared on it for dramatic effect.

Alex ripped open the envelope and read the printed message: [I already know what you care about the most! How long do you think you can keep me at bay? This is your last chance to think it over. You better give me a satisfactory result. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless. By then, all you'll have is regret! We don't want to push things too far, but if we do, it's because you forced us! My dear brother!]

After reading, Alex crumpled the paper into a ball and tossed it into the trash.

He closed his eyes, lost in thought.

Once you had things or people you cared about, you had a fatal weakness, and you could be taken down at any time.

After a bit, Alex straightened up and called Leander, "Leander, how's the surveillance check going?"

Leander replied, "Mr. Melville, we're still checking. Quite a few people were coming in and out of the company today!"

Alex ordered, "Track down anyone suspicious! We must catch that group before Katherine gives birth!"

Leander said, "Yes, Mr. Melville!"

Over at the Mitchell mansion.

Katherine saw Alex's comment to her but ignored it. She just didn't feel like replying.

How did he still have the nerve to comment on her?

After soaking up some sun, Katherine went back inside and asked a Mitchell family servant for a glass of orange juice.

As she was lounging on the sofa, sipping her juice, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

Sunny ran down and struck a pose in front of Katherine.

He wore a mature hairstyle, a suit, and leather shoes, then cast what he believed to be a charming glance at Katherine. "How do I look? Do I seem more mature dressed like this?"

Katherine, sipping through a straw, looked at him. "Like a bodyguard."

Sunny's hairstyle needed a certain vibe, and it clearly didn't match Sunny's age.

If anyone looked best with this hairstyle, it had to be Alex.

Alex liked to style his hair this way when he worked, looking meticulous, mature, and steady, like a decisive emperor.

But at home, after a shower, Alex would be in a completely relaxed state.

His hair would fall naturally and loosely, and he would wear simple T-shirts and shorts, looking no older than twenty-four or twenty-five, incredibly fresh and handsome!

As an executive of the Melville Group, if he didn't have a mature look while working, it would be hard for the shareholders or clients to trust him genuinely, so he had to dress this way.

Wait, why was she thinking about Alex again?

Sunny wasn't thrilled about being called a bodyguard. "How do I look like a bodyguard? Have you ever seen such a handsome bodyguard? I see Alex style his hair like this all the time. Are you saying Alex looks like a bodyguard too?"

Katherine got annoyed at the mention of Alex. "Don't compare yourself to others. Learn from Bernard!"

Sunny raised his chin defiantly. "Bernard doesn't style his hair like this because he already looks mature! I've seen Alex at home; he doesn't look thirty at all. What's wrong with me picking up his style?"

Katherine couldn't argue with that. "I suggest you just be yourself."

Sunny, full of arrogance and confidence, said, "I don't believe you! You were clearly charmed by Alex like this before!"

He continued, "I bet if I go to Ambrosia like this, she'll be captivated by my mature charm!"

"I bet Ambrosia won't want to talk to you." Ignoring Katherine's advice, Sunny confidently checked himself in the mirror and waved. "It's about time, I'm heading out! I'll be back in an hour!"

Katherine took another sip of juice, too lazy to care about him.

From what she knew of Ambrosia, Ambrosia would definitely dislike his outfit, and he'd come back quite dejected!

Katherine lazily leaned back on the sofa while taking a glance at her phone and saw a message from Alex ten minutes ago: [Ignoring me again?]

Katherine frowned, deleted the conversation with Alex, and felt relieved.

Then she saw a message from Jonathan: [Katherine, where are you?]

Katherine replied to Jonathan: [I'm full.]

Jonathan replied: [You're dodging the question again. Where are you?]

Katherine typed: [Jonathan, you should focus on something else! Stop hovering over a pregnant woman like me all day.]

Jonathan sent a laughing-crying emoji: [How did you know I wanted to ask you out for lunch?]

Katherine: [I guessed, so I told you I'm full.]

Jonathan: [Katherine, are you really not going to tell me where you are?]

Katherine: [I'm fine, safe, and well-fed. Thanks for your concern.]

[Alright then! I'll just have to enjoy the food alone!] Jonathan sent this message along with several tempting food pictures to tease her.

Katherine replied with a disdainful emoji and didn't respond further.

She clearly knew Jonathan's feelings for her but couldn't reciprocate. It was better to see him less in the future.

But if Jonathan ever needed help, she would assist him without hesitation because he had risked offending Alex to help her a lot during her toughest times.

After putting down her phone, Katherine leaned back on the sofa and fell asleep. A servant noticed and brought a blanket to cover her.

She had a dream. In her dream, a group of people was chasing her in a huge maze, all armed with guns.

She had no weapons and could only run and hide desperately.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. She thought she had been hit, but when she turned around, she saw Alex fall in front of her, blood gushing from his chest.

Alex had taken the bullet for her!
