Chapter 410 Are There Differences in Human Status?
"Katherine, check out my room!" Scarlett said, pulling her inside.
The place was decked out with limited-edition designer furniture and a custom canopy bed. Even the sheets screamed luxury.
But the strong perfume scent, just like Scarlett's, could give you a headache if you stayed too long.
Katherine glanced around and nodded. "It's beautiful."
Scarlett sighed, a bit frustrated. "Do you think it's too much?"
Katherine shrugged. "If your family can afford it, why not?"
"Bernard designed everything! He insists I have the best, even the floor tiles are real crystal, handcrafted. I told him it was over the top, but he wouldn't listen! Why make the floor so fancy?"
Katherine smiled. "Having a brother who spoils you is a blessing."
Scarlett beamed. "Yeah, he spoils me so much I get allergic reactions to cheap stuff! By the way, I heard you had a tough childhood?"
Katherine replied calmly, "It was okay."
Scarlett frowned sympathetically. "Thinking about your tough childhood makes me feel guilty, like I'm out of touch."
Katherine glanced at her. "Everyone has their path. You were born into wealth, and I have my own journey."
Scarlett nodded. "Maybe people do have different statuses."
The conversation was veering off course.
Scarlett tried to sound innocent but was clearly being sarcastic.
But Katherine didn't care about material things. Scarlett's lavish lifestyle didn't bother her.
Ignoring Scarlett's comments, Katherine walked towards the walk-in closet.
She wondered if this room was once hers, later remodeled by Bernard for Scarlett.
She looked for anything familiar that might jog her memory.
Scarlett followed. "Katherine, this is my walk-in closet. It's a bit messy because I have too much stuff. Don't laugh! I just cleared out a bunch last month, and now it's full again!"
Katherine looked around. Apart from clothes, bags, and jewelry, nothing seemed familiar.
Even if this was her childhood room, Bernard had completely remodeled it.
Scarlett, not getting a rise out of Katherine, tried another angle. "Hey, Katherine, I can give you my out-of-season clothes so you don't have to spend money!"
Katherine just raised an eyebrow, waiting for Scarlett to catch on.
Feeling a bit awkward under Katherine's gaze, Scarlett quickly added, "Oh, right! You're Mrs. Melville now, with Alex supporting you. You probably don't need my clothes."
Scarlett's eyes scanned Katherine. "But I noticed you usually wear cheap brands. Is Alex not giving you money for clothes?"
Katherine turned to face her. "He has no money. How can he give me any?"
Scarlett was stunned, then laughed. "Are you joking? Alex is the president of the Melville Group. How could he not have money?"
Katherine replied calmly, "All his cards are with me. He doesn't have his own money, so how can he give me any? He has to check my mood to get more pocket money."
This hit Scarlett hard. She didn't expect Katherine to have such control over Alex.
Katherine added, "Besides, I don't need many clothes. I just want to be comfortable, and he prefers me in my natural state."
Scarlett's smile froze, and she clenched her fists in frustration. This was what she hated most about Katherine—her simple style and no makeup, yet she effortlessly won Alex's heart.
Katherine lost interest in Scarlett's room. "Let's go. Show me the next room."
Scarlett forced a smile. "Okay! I'll show you Bernard's room now!"
Katherine was even less interested in Bernard's room, so she just stood at the door and glanced around.
Scarlett waved her in. "Katherine, come in! Let me show you Bernard's watch collection. They all have high-grade gemstone dials!"
Katherine shook her head. "No. He isn't here, and it's not appropriate for an outsider to enter his room. Let's look elsewhere."
Scarlett insisted. "It's fine! I can enter Bernard's room anytime! Don't worry, he won't mind with me here!"
Katherine remained uninterested. "Men's rooms are simple. I'm not into watches. Let's go."
Unable to persuade her, Scarlett sighed. "Alright, let me show you my parents' room next!"
